yeah - it’s those “slips”, and the accents within those runs the band doing in unison… where *some* of the players are yes doing the run - but leaving some ‘rests’, for example, to add ‘emphasis’ in certain parts that the runs. add to that this guy’s penchant for (and skill for) “accelerando’s” and “ritard’s” where WITHIN a bar the time signature changes, making those little (wonderful) elastic effects. I mean, who does that? it’s SO fucking cool!.. gives me goosebumps. these spazy kinda runs are given “purchase” (in our ear, brains, soul) owing ti these elastic accelerando/ritard moments with a bar, and these sort of ‘yeah we’re in unison, but for bars 3, 5, 7 (whatever) *you* do the polyrhythmic run but on your instrument play only beats 2, 3, and 8’, or whatever - that’s where an otherwise ‘stream’ of notes gets “form”, and shape and becomes very exciting (if you have the ‘receptors’ for it) “music”. haha Frank playing drums - cool :-) thanks Rory! seanM
