RIP Shane Rimmer and Sir Roger Moore. The special effects where created by the fantastic Dereck Meddings. Absolutely love this film.
I can’t help but call this THUNDERBIRDS THE LIPARUS RESCUE because of Shane Rimmer
It's really nice @ 2:56 Bond doesn't have a quip, just watches solemnly as the Liparus explodes and sinks in flames: He's a Royal Navy Commander, and he doesn't cheer at the sight of a ship in its death throes.
Bad guys are a different matter, but his respect for seafaring is always there, throughout the series and it's a really nice touch.
The ship became a giant tomb for the US and British sailors killed during the siege inside of it. Wasn't a good moment to make a quip at the expense of the dead.
A special strength of the Lewis Gilbert Bond films is he makes sure the viewer isn’t spared from the bitterness of the action scenes (such as here we know men are left behind because there’s no time to gather everyone up)
Only Jaws could kill Jaws with his jaws!
@GoldenFox2109 not necessarily. just his escape should be different. its just impossible that a human can bite a grown shark to death. and when the shark dived, jaws has not enough air to breathe... in the book btw I even remember that shark ate him
Highlight of moores career smiling at jaws then saying how does that grab you. Timeless class. R.I.P to them both.
Roger Moore says this is his best Bond film
It's great, personally Live And Let Die is one of the best films of the whole franchise
7:01 One of Roger Moore's most badass moments as Bond. Kills Stromberg point blank range.
And by "point blank range" you mean, "near the limit of the pistol's effective range which is the exact opposite of point blank range"?
“How does that grab ya?” 😂😂 Love Sir Roger as Bond, all those one liners he used to do!
And one of my favorite explosion scenes in any Bond movie I ever saw - the Liparus blowing up in multiple and relentless explosions, while the good submarine crew escapes into the submarine and realizing that the crew and the sub will be trapped into the explosive fiery hell of the blowing-up Liparus decides to do the nearly-impossible - fire its own torpedo to blast the hard steel doors of the entryway into the Liparus. The torpedo hit its mark and the doors are toast - a big breach, and the sub moves at 4-5 knots and gets out of the Liparus through the breach just in time--before the biggest blast hits Liparus before it goes down into its watery abyss forever.
Totally agreed. But the inaccurate thing is that the mark 46 torpedo is not very long. It's usually fired from a destroyer or a cruiser.
with shane rimmer in this scene, its the closest we get to thunderbirds meets james bond
One of Roger's coldest kills. Nice.
One of his other coldest kills was in For Your Eyes Only his darkest Bond film as producers wanted a more realistic and darker Bond film after the space themed and campy Moonraker. Bond killed assassin Louque in For Your Eyes Only by kicking his car off the cliff after shooting him in shoulder.
@@scottknode898 : Including the death of Kriegler (forced out of a window/cliff edge at St Cyril's) and the twins in Octopussy - one got bludgeoned and other knifed in the chest - ruthless as they come!.
Roger Moore had colder kills than Sean Connery. The difference is Connery was more rugged
A refined, sophisticated and eccentric individual and environment. Has a bottle of Tabasco sauce.
R.I.P Shane Rimmer & Roger Moore for Making a Excellent 007 Bond Movie.
R.I.P Derek Meddings for All the lovely Brilliant 007 Bond Special Effects You made as well
"You did want me to drop in?"
Kurt Jurgens, great actor. He was seriously ill byt the time os shooting this film but he did it professionaly.
This is my favorite of all James Bond movies
Saw this the first time in a theater in San Antonio, Texas. Love it.
My favorite Bond film.
Moore is even colder than Craig in these scenes, wow! A hardened killer
The music when the tanker blows up is one of the best pieces in the entire film.
@@deacondavis5098 indeed but none of the music was ever released. Its all rerecordings. Hopefully Lala Land Records Will release some Day soon once No Time To Die is out.
@@niels25chr1 Also, the versions on the lp is different than the film version. Hopefully someone like FilmScore Monthly or La La Land Records could get the rights to the original master tapes and do a proper release of the actual recording (and hopefully include the other Bond Scores as well)!!!!!
@@deacondavis5098 I agree. Then we'd get a full version of the car/ helicopter chase theme.
One of the few times Bond actually shot and killed the villain! And with the Walther PPK too!
I can’t even think of another time he did that! 😃
I don't understand why the fuck he shot Jaws in his STEEL TEETH instead of his chest or his forehead. What an idiot. 🤦♂️🤦♂️
"You missed the first time... then you got them both the second time!"
Moore really shines in the scenes where he’s dead serious - grimly watching the Liparus sink; displaying angry desperation in begging Captain Carter to hold off blasting Atlantis with Anya still aboard; the final confrontation with Stromberg
9:30 It's like the tiger shark's going "OH, SHIT!"
One of the best 007 films. I was 13 when this film came!
Moore was unfairly criticised for being "comical" : this is one of many scenes that definitely proved the theory otherwise when the main villain is shot dead.
Live And Let Die : Adam, Tee Hee and Kananga.
Golden Gun : Scaramanga.
Spy : Stromberg/number of crew and Barsov.
Moonraker : Drax/some team members and Chang.
Eyes : Locque, Kriegler and several other goons.
Octopussy : Possibly the most in his time as 007 - including those in the aircraft hangar, at least 50 people, along with Kamal Khan, Gobinda, both Twins, estimated 10 hired thugs and a few of Orlov's soldiers.
View To A Kill : Two pilots, Scarpine, Gray/Glaub and Zorin.
Rather good for someone who apparently showed "touches of humour" in the part :equally ruthless as Connery, Lazenby, Dalton, Brosnan and Craig!.
I hate when people say James bond actors are too comical, they make it seem like certain bond actors are literally acting like Austin powers in their films. Every James bond up until very recently always had a touch of light-hearted comical relief
Meh.
He was still pretty comical. It's wasn't unfair. It was a fact. Roger Moore was a wholesome dude and played Bond as light hearted as possible. Even during this film.
I would say that while he was definitely the most humorous Bond, when the part required it, Moore could be utterly ruthless, even if it made him somewhat uncomfortable in real life.
Stromberg’s death is one of my favourite moments in the film, Bond wastes no energy on him, but he does drag out the kill as long as he feels necessary.
@@bradydavis4666Moore’s Bond was more of a playboy who never seemed to get hurt. He was the farthest from the Fleming incarnation.
If any classic 007 flix could be made into an FPS game as good as Goldeneye, TSWLM would definitely be one of them. I imagine the mission objectives for this “scene/mission” would be:
A) Locate Atlantis
B) Confront Stromberg and Jaws
C) Rescue Anya
D) Escape in Emergency pod
There is actually a mod for Goldeneye N64 (which I believe is still being finished off, but you can play what’s available, there’s footage on UA-cam) that does exactly this. The recreation of the Liparus Tanker interior is awesome!
Don't know how many times I've seen it before, but have never noticed the tobasco sauce before on Stromberg's table.
Did anyone else notice that Stromberg has a bottle of Tobasco sauce at his dinner, presumably made by a personal chef?
vogonford He was eating raw oysters, for which Tabasco is a popular condiment
vogonford Scaramanga did to when ate in The Man With The Golden Gun when asks Nick Nack for Tabasco sauce
@@scottknode898 So I guess Bond villains have a thing for Tabasco sauce then?
Ouch, Bond shot deez nuts...
Savage af
That sailor carried the disassembled jet ski, in the bag, like it was a couple of tennis rackets.
You don't understand! The materials used to make the jetski are made out of aircraft aluminum! Light as a feather!
1:25 She blowed up good. Ooowee.. Awesome model work in this. And Shane Rimmer is fabulous as the Sub Capt. He was very memorable. Made an impression. Totally confident in the role
roquefortfiles
Met him at Aberdeen comicon. Lovely man. Plenty of films to episodes where he had good lines, but at least here he got a meatier part.
The music in the film was way better than the lp. Plus there was more music!
7:06 Here's one for the balls!
7:09 Here's another for stupidity!
7:16 Goodbye, Stromberg! Such a shame i overestimate you!
Bond: you did give me something most people haven't given me in a long time: one of the best laughs I had in years.
If I weren't so professional I'd laugh my ass off.... ah what the hell?, I'll laugh anyway.
M: it's not funny, 007
Bond: Yes it was, sir. You had to have been there. Even Jaws couldn't help but laugh at that old trick.
One thing the producers missed.... 593 was the hull number of the USS Thresher, lost at sea April 1963.
For some reason, this movie feels like one of the darker James Bond films.
I have always loved my James Bond movies, it puts on display the attractiveness of the mature man.
I miss the bond battle scenes
Yes they are not the same without the climatic battle at the end the space battle in Moonraker was different but enjoyable but not for the poor men in it.
Excellent
Both Francisco Scaramanga and Karl Stromberg liked Tabasco sauce… and both were killed by James Bond (Agent 007)!
After Goldfinger the Spy who loved me was always my second favorite Bond movie. The awesome Lotus Bond car is one of the best Bond gimmick cars ever....only the Aston Martin DB5 from Goldfinger was better.
1:34 best soundtrack, best scene, best Bond-movie with Roger Moore
I thought I was going to see a great Odd Job-like fight between Bond and Jaws. What a gyp!
Like how Captain Carter’s (Shane Rimmer) XO takes over getting everybody aboard the USS WAYNE
Classic scene
First James Bond film I saw in a theater
bloody fire
This Was One Of My Favorites Of Roger Moore. Then There's Moonraker( RIP SIR RM).
I think this was Roger Moore's best film. For Your Eyes Only was his 2nd best
i'd have left jaws stuck to the magnet.. the guys near indestructible, of course he can beat a shark. What i would question though is his ability to tank a Mk 46 torpedo from that submarine
Best 007 VILLAIN...,,!!!
Fabulous Curd Jugens he died when I was 2 years old a great actor.
Moore was the definitive Bond. He owned this role in a a way that Connery and Craig never could.
Jack Sabbath Roger Moore, especially from this film, was the right man at the right time (except ''A View To a Kill'' he is 58, must play Dalton).
The first will always be the best. I will say that Roger was good too, just not as good as Sean.
Al Ariana Grande Cappuccino I I I in a way Roger Moore’s and Connery’s third films were there best The Spy Who Loved Me and Goldfinger.
8:50-9:30 was lifted from the Dean Martin/Matt Helm film "Murderer's Row"(1966) when he uses the powerful magnet on the henchman known as Ironhead.
Can you imagine the joy of the GRU when they heard there were Soviet sailors on a 688?
Moore never actually fires the Walther in this scene, it's all editing, sound effects and a stand in, he hated the guns
He does. You can see the PPK cycle, the blank shell casing stovepipe after the first shot at Stromberg.
Jaws puts the bite on "Jaws."
This is probably one of the few Bond movies were he just shoots the bad guy with his PPK, usually something more dramatic!!
3:00 Looks like Stromberg's plans has took a ride to Davy Jones's lockers.
watching the Liparus, sinking scene i enjoy watching was the Liparus used as a model tanker or was it based on a real tanker.
The music puts the hair on the back neck up.
Spy Who Loved Me
Moonraker
Goldfinger

Awesome job courtesy of MGM!!!🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤗🤗🤗🤗🇺🇸🇬🇧🇨🇦
Very unrealistic special effects; but they don't detract too much from what's important in Bond films. and that is that they're fun to watch all the same.
Seeing this movie for the first time as a kid, I never fully understood why have the stopwatch, and what they mean by match bearings
I remember when this came on the telly. We all rooted for Jaws ( the human villan of course ).
I agree with Roger Moore out of all the Bond Films he Done The Spy Who loved Me Is the One Roger Moore Likes Best & Also R.I.P Richard Dawson Kiel for playing a good Jaws Villiain
That's a Smith and Wesson, and you've had your six.
When the Villain died & James Bond Lived .
That scenario reminds the stealth boat in Tomorrow Never Dies
Director lewis gilbert had flair for directing epic battle scenes he also directed you only live twice and moonraker
0:01 escaping the sinking Liparus
3:40 James is told Atlantis has to be destroyed
Wonder how they did the stunt with the magnet. Cant believe Richard Kiel had such an -attraction?
Probably the same way they do hangings in films (hidden harness) just pulled up close to the electromagnet prop.
@@D8W2P4 I would like to see how they did the stunt with van with jaws pushing it forwards with the van in reverse spinning.
01:23 *[explosion]* 💥💥💥
When Bond shot at Jaws to kill him how on earth did he hit his steel teeth? I mean the bloke was huge, a child could have done better.
Now, That's how you end a Bond movie
@@sto59 Craig wanker, 60 years of Bond getting the girl and walking away at the end and he kills him, asshole
It was amusing to see Jaws against Jaws. The thing is though I think with Atlantis having to go blown up I think Bond should have positioned the magnet over the water but leave Jaws hanging on the magnet and fend for himself. Therefore Bond didn't have to kill or save Jaws for that matter. Even if Jaws broke free of the magnet he would still fall into the water and deal with the shark.
RIP Richard keel
How many times does one shoot Thier bolt
A direct high budget remake of "YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE" Moore`s best bond movie "FOR YOUR EYES ONLY"
Hello,... Angus Cook ! Super work you made with this video ! Thanks, Grillo.
stormberg is such a coward, first he trys with the shark trap, then he trys with that grenade luancher trap, i guess he can't fight, and i think maby most people would scream pretty loud after being shot in that private place, twice
I'll never look at the Atlantis scenes the same way again now that I know it's only a 15-foot wide model in shallow water. ;)
@@mattbartley2843 You have to admit the model work is very well done. All filmed in high-speed.
A 7foot tall man with a broad body and all 007 could aim at are his teeth? Hmmm
RIP Shane Rimmer.
WedgePee along with Roger Moore and Richard Kiel and most of the cast of The Spy Who Loved Me including Robert Brown, Curd Jurgens, Walter Gotell, Lois Maxwell, Desmond Llewelyn and others.
9:02 Smile, chuckles! You're about to go for a swim!
Wow. We've seen sharks take a bite out of a human, but we've never seen it the other way around (human taking a bite out of a shark); the name is Jaws a human instead of shark. I feel sorry for that shark.
The PPK jammed on Bond in thise scene. Wasnt that a reason for M to change from a Beretta to Walther in Dr. No?!
I know that Cyril Shaps is in this movie. Is he in this scene? I know him from an episode of Some Mother’s Do ‘Ave ‘Em.
One thing I don't get - Stromberg's lair was completely empty except for himself and Jaws. Just what did Stromberg expect to do after he'd triggered a nuclear holocaust? Just hang out with Jaws all alone in his lair until they died of old age? I mean...his entire cunning plan seemed to have a huge hole in it - like what he would do after he'd accomplished his goal of wiping out life on Earth.
Nuclear war wouldn't wipe out life on earth, just all major governments and a couple billion people.
There would be plenty of survivors, and he planned to use his resources to become king of them. Life underwater looks a lot more appealing when the surface is irradiated.
And he'd have had his tanker crew.
GTA 5 Brought me heree
Moment when Bond kicks Jaws in the nuts...lmao
3:06 So much for Stromberg's ship. Now for mr. Blofeld-wannabe himself.
"How does that grab you?"
Also, the Captain is wearing Enlisted Dolphins.
I always felt bad for those sailors at 0:47.
This franchise owes Roger Moore way more than anyone gives him credit for. He proved that it can continue to go strong beyond the Sean Connery era.
Up until recently, Sir Roger Moore was in the role of Bond longer than anyone in the franchise's history.
Daniel Craig now has that title. Sir Roger still holds the title of the most Bond movies under his belt, as far as EON/Danjaq goes. Yes, you count Sir Sean Connery in Never Say Never Again, they have a tie, seven movies each.
Trouble is - he stayed in the role way too long. Granted, Sir Roger may have ensured the big bucks at the box office, but his light-hearted antics got old very quickly once the 70’s ended.
