To answer your question Hamilton at the age of seven Spartans boys were enrolled in a training program known as the agoge which taught them never to retreat, never to surrender, and that death in battle in service to Sparta was the greatest glory they could achieve. What y'all saw was known as the Battle of Thermopylae where King Leonidas and 300 Spartan warriors made an attempt to halt King Xerxes conquest into Europe back then called Europa, and over a three day period it said that as many as twenty thousand Persian soldiers were killed, the traitor who showed Xerxes soldiers the hidden path was named Ephialtes, and it is said that the Spartans are descended from Hercules the demigod who killed the quote indestructible Nemean Lion by crushing its neck with his bare hands. But even though the Spartans were defeated word of their bravery spread like wildfire and later that same year the Greek city-states united and defeated the Persians at the naval battle of Salamis.
Correct. Heracles, son of Zeus (but not hera) whose mother named him in honor of hera to attempt to mitigate her wrath. As we know, that didn't really work too well. Disney took some liberties there😏. The 12 (and one failed trial, the stables) tasks were to essentially apologize for his hera-caused madness where Heracles slew his wife and children...
Sparta, Forever and a day, Leonidas will hold the hot gates, and when the days end, they will feast in the fields of heroes. Templars, holy and devout, merciless mortals. Live in the name of heaven, die in the name of honor. Flesh may falter, but you are IRON.
Ole Beefeater was getting the hots and jollies, I bet she was thinking *man, I wanna have about a hundred of those guys, the Jade Palace would be invulnerable!!!
it is said that the persian king at the time would pay respect to kings who put up a good fight against his army, but for Leonidas, he got so butthurt at his defiance he just decided to defile his corpse (take the head and something like that) then again, it's fair since he lost a shit load of troops just to kill 300 guarding the main road
A lot of people would say that the Spartans were never dressed like this but in fact they were there was two reasons one because it was easier to maneuver and all this without the big clunky armour and two is too strike fear into their enemies because if you didn't wear armour it was a sign of saying fvck you I don't plan on getting killed today you're gonna die and not me and I'm not even gonna take damage that's what wearing the warmer back then meant
Pretty sure a city state of soldiers would know for a fact that armor would serve better than none. A simple breastplate, greaves and whatnot would suffice

The one with the spartans is about the battle of thermopylae in 480 BCE were king leonidas I, 300 spartans, and around 7000 other greeks fought 15000 persians at thermopylae. The spartans held their ground for 3 rays but were defeated when a traitor, a local shepherd, told king xerxes I (king of the persians) a path to get around the spartans. The reson their was only 300 spartans is becouse there was a religious festival at the time so they wernt allowed to send the whole army also its likely leonidas knew he was gonna lose cos he only chose soldiers who had sons to join him on the mission and leonidas didnt even intend to win as he just wanted to give the rest of greece as much time as possible to get their army ready whitch was successful as the greeks beat the persians at the battle of plataea in 479 BCE and ending the second greco-persian war. They held the persians of for so long cos spartans were a worrior society and they trained to be soldiers from age 7 to age 30 and served in the military untill they were 60 (same age as leonidas) the training was extremely difficult, more so than most modern military training and it produced the most feared soldiers of the time. It was spartan law to fight to victory or death and retreating from battle was a disgrace and a crime, punishment? Social exclusion, all spartan worriors wore a red cape but if u ran away from battle black paches would be sewn to the cape and no one was allowed to even look at u, and it didnt matter if u were ordered to go home, this happened to a man named Aristodimus at thermopylae as leonidas let him leave because he had an eye infection but qhen he got home he was still punished but at battle of plataea he redeemed himself by fighting like a mad man and killing many persians but was killed.
As I recall, the tale of three hundred had 1 million Persian soldiers but the Spartans used a narrow strip of land to limit opponent options... Until betrayed by their own man, who told of the second passage to the spartan home.

Too bad latin is the mark of the conquistadores in 'latin America'... All of the south American continent and Mexico lost their original tongue and culture, forced to learn Spanish by Cortez and his fellows...
@@MatthewLawrence. Not ruining necessarily. Just pointing out a side of latin that few think about. The most beautiful flowers usually are a warning. Latin IS beautiful, but in the Americas was weaponized to conquer an entire race of people. The templars were fascinating- the first of 3 primary knight orders of the second era of knights. Interestingly, while involved in the crusades, they were far less likely than other soldiers from Europe to commit war crimes and were known to refuse to ally with tyrannical campaigns in their heyday. It is just a shame that latin, beautiful as it is, was deemed 'better' than the native tongues to excuse the purging and eradication of native cultures and tongues. English is the same, as is arguably french- and especially dutch, though less known. All European cultures distilled a conquering habit by conquering and enfeebling each other- then fell upon a group of people who would have happily DONE THE SAME THING had they been half as developed. That said, think about it. 'Mexican' is not the same as 'Native American' ? But it isn't. The folks of Mexican descent, as with South Americans, were CONVERTED and told to be pious by conquistadores... I also suspect that the zealotry also was built on the fact of the SPANISH INQUISITION that literally tortured and killed any who were suspected of 'NOT BEING RELIGIOUS ENOUGH IN THE RIGHT WAY?!?'
The Spartans are not demigods. They are what humans should always be throughout history, no matter how advanced we get, we will stop the enemy. No matter how few of us there are.
It does answer why we don't find true love. Its cuz we are the violence that breeds violence. Dogs or pets tend to ease and calm the human psyche and spirit. They have been around like us for a very long time. Because they understand our emptions as we sometimes don't realize what our actual emotions are. I was actually surprised to find cats who served in ww1 and 2. Maybe even in non major battles as well. Aside for pest control, they also keep morale high. They're also icons to, since their meows haven't been recognized as part of the heroes
