Redman on Working with Eminem: We Didn't Out-Rap Each Other, it Was Even

- Redman spoke about working with Eminem on "Off The Wall" in 2000 for the "Nutty Professor 2" soundtrack, which sparked a friendship between the veteran rappers. The Newark-born rapper explained that he flew to Detroit to brainstorm and write the track at Eminem's studio, a process that Redman admitted isn't something that happens today.
When asked if he overshadowed Eminem, or vice versa, on the track, Redman said that they each held their own and let their respective styles shine. Redman added that he was very pleased with the outcome of the record, but he and Eminem never went on to record other tracks in the future. Redman told DJ Vlad that if he needed Eminem to record anything with him, the Detroit rapper wouldn't hesitate to come to his aid.
During the conversation, Redman also addressed a rumor about him turning down a meeting with Dr. Dre because he was tired from a flight. He explained that there's more to the story, including the fact that he flew across the country with no sleep, and Redman said that he always wants to be sharp when he's meeting with Dr. Dre.
Check out more of what Redman had to say on the situation in the above clip.
EMINEM is a smart person. In 'Till I Collapse he said: Redman is the best rapper of all time followed by JAY Z, 2Pac, Biggie, Andre 3000, Jadakiss, Kurupt, Nas and he would find his place after these artists. BUT he made songs with Redman and JAY Z. Most people will tell you that EMINEM murdered both on these tracks. Which (for most people) would mean that he is better than Redman and JAY Z. This would imply that he is over Pac and Big while the majority of listeners think he gives credit to those artists (he put himself at the end of his list). Same goes for Nas' list. He said: "Who is the best? / Pac, Nas and Big". The death of Pac and Big together with his hypothesis implies that he is the best rapper alive. Old school rappers are clever and you should never accept anything they say as a meaningless phrase.
Well said man
he also said Jada and Kurupt
L
L
So you're saying since he "out rapped" the top two people on his list he is implying that it makes him better than them, and everyone under them in that list. Bit of a reach but i get your logic. I think he was just being humble
Eminem and Redman should have more work together
An album titled Red-Eminems
red meets evil
OrionSound Sounds Very interesting
AtomicBomberMan Can't go wrong with that name lol
+Dro Briggz both washed up
"Im a stan of redman" eminem
I got a list, here's the order of my list that it's in;
It goes, Reggie, Jay-Z, Tupac and Biggie
Andre from Outkast, Jada, Kurupt, Nas and then me
Reggie is Redman
X Clan and I’m a Treach fan
@@TheDictismiT "But I look up to myself like a fuckin headstand."
Not!
@@kb8170 so w-w-w-why else, would i call myself an alien
could you imagine being in that studio with Eminem, RedMan & Method Man.. while that track is being made
i fucking love hip hop artist that link up and make classic tracks
Amen bro EPICNESS
Like Redman just said in this interview... A fucking tornado in that studio!!!
Barss
I rather have em with red man and method man. Then em with cole and kendrick. What y'all think?
redman is HELLA dope. loved that era
Yea same. Great lyricist.
Redman so underrated, I can watch his interviews all day!!! I miss him and meth doing songs! that era will always be the greatest in hip hop history!
Props to the random guy in the back trying to hide from the cam while doing his job yet failing hard 😂!
what's the time on the vid?
albannajr 1:12
Yea wtf
I love how Red is so real and just himself, that shit is way too rare in hiphop.
Every time I see a Redman interview I reminisce about a time when lyrical content and delivery was a make or break situation. Rawkus even had a few albums called the "Lyricist Lounge". I believe when rappers like J.Cole, Kendrick, Big KRIT came in they were expecting competition, rivalries, community but instead got a wasteland of Zombies, greed and high stench of jealousy for no reason.
Red and Em locked in a studio workin? Damn, to be a fly on that wall? That'd be some dope shit to see
You could almost say it would be off the wall .
victor keeps it 100 someone had to say it
Eminem, Redman, And Ludacris are some of the funniest MCs ever
I wish Eminem was in all the Def Jam Games lol
@@MASTER3371 that would've been insane
Royce too
Those are my favorite rapper with ODB and Kanye
Yea I personally think Luda is not given the props he deserves. He is creative, original and is barred in. He dan give you anything.
Yo that's mad love how Proof and Red met. They both on my TOP 5 RIP BIG PROOF🙏🏼🕊
I loved that song. Eminem was beyond blowing up around this time. They didn’t out rap each other. Eminem usually out raps those he raps with. Em must really be fond of Redman.
he's so humble, love Redman
Can't believe people compare Eminem and Red, Redman is a 24/7 prolific machine, I've had the pleasure of seeing him twice in Australia
Lord Jamar just gave this a thumbs down lol 😂 🤦
@The real deal Only thing Jamar can think of saying about that is that he never came back to scoop up The Outsidaz and therefore he's not loyal
that 24-track reel talk was dope. no matter who people think out rapped who - em and red are two of the best to ever do it. no doubt... mad talented.
Em calls Red the greatest ever. FACTS!
+the cave dweller I got a list here's the order of my list that it's in.
It goes Reggie, Jay-Z, Tupac and Biggie, Andre from OutKast, Jada, Kurupt, Nas and then me.
well yeah that was decades ago, though
+the cave dweller em even called in to shade 45 when red was getting interviewed and stated it again.
hmm. I remember watchin a shade 45 interview where em called and he tells redman "you'll always be one of my all time favorites" but I don't recall him saying redman is the best of all time. maybe I just haven't seen the one you're talking about.
+the cave dweller em, "I got a list, here's an order of my list...., it goes Reggie(Reggie Noble/Redman) JayZ, Tupac and Biggie.. Andre from outcast Jada, Corrupt, Naz and then me"
He was naming his list of top emcees on a song and named Redman first
Red just got amazing energy. You can feel his realness through the camera.
Eminem is like Madara. He a combination of ALL the Goats , but a better version. More advanced , sinister and versatile. Plus he’s equipped with longevity , so he knows rap history and anything now he can adapt to well.
The best way of talking i've ever heard in my life. Most underrated character of all time.
Redman is the truth. He keep everything real.
Redman seems like the type of guy you want as a best friend.
"Do you think you'll be able to out-rap Slim Jesus?"
-Vlad
only reason vlad interviews slim jesus is because of ratings.. he knows this kid aint shi..if it get the ratings you have to show it..
Dunno what's up with Vlad, he can do a good interview with good questions... and then suddenly he starts throwing in weird ass ridiculous questions. For example the recent interview with Lord Jamar about Eminem... stupid questions only topped by the ridiculous answers Jamar gave.
lmfao
***** Who are you talking to? If it's me... I'm here because of Redman.
wack ass slim jokes
Red man one of the last real ones in the game
nope Sasquatch Brothers are real as fuck
More Redman interviews please sir. He is very animated kinda like when he rhymes and its very entertaining. One.
That's true... on that track they didn't out-do each other... They both rocked...
jay z got bodied but Redman and busta rhymes didn't
I agree with all of this. They were just 2 dope ass lyricists killing it together. Neither one out rapped the other both killed it.
"PUT ME IN THAT MUTHA FUCKIN BOOTH " This why Redman dope lmao
I dont want to hear no song from em and red. I WANT A WHOLE ALBUM!
NEW NIGGAZ LET ME TELL YOU THIS...
90s ERA WAS THE SHITT....AND U WONT HAVE STORIES TO TELL BESIDES TWITTER SHIT, IG SHITT AND WHICH MALE RAPPER WORE E CUTEST DRESS AND TIGHTEST JEANS...
100% facts
exactly. we had at least 10 Kendrick and Coles in the 90s. all substance. even the commercial shit was incredible.
90's we had the Wu
+Brooklynboi Productions fuck yeah I love the WU
More creativity in the 2000s More bigger artists. Better Producers
(Neptunes,Kanye) More artists that had an impact in the long run. Just better overall. Saying 90s era was the golden age is like saying poison is good for you. Only oldheads and Hip hop historians have that opinion. Also 2Pac is highly overrated. Andre 3000 is the greatest.
Redman is the truth! And hands down a top 10 rapper of all times. I’ve met him a couple times, he was so down to earth. He took
the time to sign autographs, and he took a hit off my man”s blunt! He said it stunk so good. Funk Doctor Spock!
Eminem needs to drop an album asap
Hopefully
Im praying for that!
Nas album done
+Jamal Karim Yea I heard.
He's not hungry anymore
Eminem has redman dna all in his music. period. he got most his style from redman
an Sasquatch brothers, Eminem says he is biggest fan
Well yeah of course, redman is one of his favorite mc's ever, of course he's gonna be heavily influenced
Also masta ace & Treach
Are we gonna forget eminems whole shock factor punchlines are directly influenced by big L. Big L is eminems biggest influence.
@@mystkone big l never mentions that being his influence though
Vlad would sell his soul for an interview with Eminem :P
Em is always on the tip of his tongue when interviewing anyone who ever knew him.
Na slim jesus is always on his tongue
Redman is underappreciated in hip hop today, that’s a strain I wanna see a resurgence of. To me he comes from a funk line that’s trailed off in hip hop and been picked up more in other genres, usually watered down or more disco
Off the wall is one of my favourite songs ever it's an amazing collaboration , the artists compliment each other and redman has some of the sickest lines on it I love it
Em edges Red when I listen one day and on another Red edges Em. It's on of the best lyrical song ever.
The kid in the background reminds me of that forest level in Mortal Kombat 2 when the characters are sneaking around hiding behind the trees poking their heads out in the background.
Smoke#
Red made some classic albums.
Muddy waters is one of my favourite albums.
One of the best best collaborations ever. Very evenly matched.
I would love to see Redman put Lord Jamar in his place when it comes to Eminem after what Redman just said
@phillyrick boi fuck outta here. Even dylt can put jamar in his damn place. Jamar ain't shit because he tries to separate em from a "house" of hip hop. Nah. What ever happen to reuniting the culture.
phillyrick lmao lord jamar is not a legend wtf are you smoking
Lord jamar is the weakest link
phillyrick lay down the pipe
Red would BODY jamar in the studio or on the streets
@phillyrick stop it... if it wasn't for puba or sadat he'd be some bum as mfer... gimme a memorable jamar verse... Before he came to vlads couch no one even knew he still was alive :D
Rhis is awesone to see. Two of the greatest rappers from my era that come together and make greatness is what it is! Respect to Redman and Em.
Mannnn i love Redman. He is in my top 5 also. 💪🏼
great interview. Redman one of the G.O.A.T of the RAP GAME!
Redman Top 5 D.O.A.
yeah , he just so under rated
Nathan
very true!
Hell yeah
definitely
I seen Redman live in 2009. Redman is one the best performers I've ever seen. Crazy dope.
EMINEM is a easily top three, I don't want to hear the "oooh he is white blah, blah, blah" he can spit his ass off.
lmfao true , these mothafuckas think white people can't rap . Can't rap my ass .
+Brian M if you can't find a white rapper that raps better then future something's wrong
he's good technically and all but I think alot of ppl leave him out because they can't relate to the shit he spits about compared to other rappers lol
Thulsa Doom
If you know what Eminem has been through ,he never made it he just made a song instead lmfao , thats typical Eminem. But at least he told a story about his life tho
He's top 3 in my list, his storytelling, his representation of hip hop, the different cultural backgrounds he could put under one roof at a concert, the respect he garnered from the hip hop community...I can go on and on thats my opinion, whether he raps about killing his mom, dissing dudes or being introspective, hate him or love him you can never say he can't spit and I have a right to my opinion, whoever disagrees (and you have a right to) can make their own list and put Em wherever they wanna put him, thats all.
EMINEM AND REDMAN NEED TO DO MORE MUSIC TOGETHER!!! THEY'RE BOTH CRAZY AND THEY'RE BOTH GREAT!!! U CAN SEE THE CHEMISTRY ON OFF THA WALL!!
im glad I lived thru that era....I cant stand todays music aka mumble rap lol...
#90sEra 4 life
Well if you remember Gang Starr you might I want to listen to their new album that came out this month called One of the Best . DJ Premier bought gurus rhymes from The Vault and put them to music... it's like Guru never died a lot of it is that 90's sound .
You might like Creep wit Me by Black Moon . So beautiful and old school .
Last year Cormega dropped his Mega album ( not to be confused with his Mega Philosophy from 2014 ) is excellent I think you'll really enjoy it . Especially his song On Everything .
All of these that I mentioned are here on UA-cam
Rap pretty much died in the early 2000
Red and Em are some of the greatest lyricists ever!
Man we need " Off The Wall 2 " 🔥
Can we Pleeeeeeaaaaaase get a Dre produced Redman album!!!!
You guys that leave Em out of the top ten..,.
1. Emotional
2. Bigots
3. Old
4. Don't rap yourself
5. Can't tell the difference between radio and hip hop.
6. Can't tell the difference between freestyle and written bars.
7. Don't relate to Em, (like me, I rarely play him)
8. Think Dr J is better than Lebron James.
9. Ride or die with personal opinion.
10. Smoke blunts... ONLY
11. Think you're unique.
Em is an incredible lyricist but I don't ever bump his shit. I swear all his albums get about 3 spins for me.
back in 99-03 eminem was the hottest rapper in the world, and thats not an opinion, thats factual, and after em, it was 50, eminems artist, em's a fucking legend, to me (and this is an opinion) he's right behind biggie for best of all time.
+kody sanderson behind biggie, pac, nas, rakim, jay. eminem discography is inconsistent, but still top 10 all time
+Tyler Canton
10. Ice Cube
9. R.A. the Rugged Man
8. Ghostface Killah
7. Nas
6. Rakim
5. Redman
4. Kool G Rap
3. Jay Z
2. Eminem
1. MF DOOM
MF RICK like your list not crazy about Ghostface I'm from ny saying that
Em has states multiple times how much he loves Redman style
Red man does the best interviews
It's good to see Redman doing his thing this generation needs to know about these mc
Vlad on journalism school: “What’s that?”
em & red need to drop a album.
Put me in the muthafuckin booth!
Dude Redman interviews have been so refreshing. Best shit I've seen on Vlad in awhile.
His MC Hammer interview was funny as shit! Made me go look at all his interviews on Vlad.
"That goddamn MC Hammer.... VERY serious about beef"
+Thomas Wiilde me to bro. I could sit and listen to redmans story's all day. Can't beat listening to old school rappers about back in the day and the shit they got up to.
yessir
I literally just paused and listened to the song and yea he's not lying lol and I was born In 88 so I was raised listening to both of them..
Vlad was trying to bait Redman into dissing Em
Man, I'm down to hear Red and Eminem collab again, that sounds like a win for hiphop
redman, mos def and mf doom are the only ones em cant simply "out-rap"
I'm going to add tech n9ne and Chino xl to that list
Very true
i'm gonna take mos def off that list, his shit is inadequate lol. maybe when he first started, ok... but then he did that wack ass album, tryna sing lmao. that guy is a comedian
Eminem aint biggie bro anybody can out rap his lame ass
gotta put Talib in there
100% one song i can say em didn't steal the show. They were completely equal. When i was a teen i watched how high so many times a day that nobody would watch it with me because i know the entire movie wotd for word. Redman is also a genius when it comes to music.
WHUT DA FUK GOIN ON IN THE BACKGROUND!?
lmao right no one is talking about this
This was the greatest area of hip hop that will NEVER be repeated
The only episode of MTV cribs i ever watched was Redman's, it was fuckin hilarious.
Him and Method are just some of my favorite rappers. They have so much fun and none of that crazy beef. They are just like when WWF figured out it should stop lying about it being really real and that it was entertainment. Those are still some of the best athletes in the world, (wrestlers), but they understood everyone made money if they took care of each other.
why is it people these days always lookin to see who out did who on a track?? people used to collaborate because they made good music or to feature for the sake of featuring!
Deej Enki Agreed
It’s hip hop 🤷🏾♂️
all old school dudes respect Redman I love old school hip hop all old school people will say Eminem is that guy
has he taken his smoke break yet? I feel like he need to take a smoke break for this long interview
I love that song, always did! Bought the soundtrack for it!
look at Redman from the Vlad interview in 2011 for Eminem's Recovery and compare it to now ... dude looks completely different
Redman is Eminems favorite rapper!
"It goes Reggie..."
The first show I booked ever was Red Man was in 1995. Rocked it.
Can you imagine IF REDMAN TOOK TRADER JOE BUDDEN SPOT IN SLAUGHTERHOUSE OMG 🔥⚰
Em sonned him on "Off the Wall". Red is still one of the GOATs. If you don't have him in that top tier, idk what's wrong with you. All of Red's albums and he could still spit lava. ✌🏾
4:13 when you sneak down for a drink at night.
Eminem is my guy, best lyricist ever no doubt, but redman you got him on this one, no cap
Cats don't have the same passion for the craft nowadays like Red does.
I miss hearing Redman in the radio and method man.
Vlad: "zEMINEM! EMINEM! EMINEM!"
Picture marshall and reggie in the studio together shit id l9ve to hear another track 2021 would be dope for the culture esp because of the respect the both have for each other
Eminem Top 5 Dead or Alive
no
shady Hodge Yes :)
shady Hodge nigga u crazy for saying no.
Sasquatch Brothers alive and killer
Please please PLEASE do another track together
loved both of them on that track, but I think Em got him.
Back in the days was dope when THE BOX was on TV.... CLASSIC 💯
yes I'm a Del tha Funke Homosapien fan
It's easy to see why Redman is in anyone's top MCs. Skilled as fuck, funny, always on point.
Vlad is such a typical mainstream rap fan....lmaoooooo?
"jay-z is the only artist that was not completely out shined eminem" lmao
the cave dweller that nigga got ate too
+the cave dweller He kinda did when 50/G Unit and em went against murder Inc (dmx, ja rule, and jay z)
+Brandon Ryce jay was against ja rule, ja rule and jay had beef so did dmx and ja rule, dmx and jay
James Vicari na its a fact bro I'm from ny jay didn't put rule on rule gave jay that track for can i get a so it can help rule, and when they did the murda dmx it was to help rule, so it can get him buzz.
Song is FIRE to this day
What is vlad really trying to do in this interview?
get more info for the Federales
I had that "I See Dead People" joint on one of his Gilla House mixtapes at least 10 years ago. Still got it around here somewhere.
I like Eminem and all but Redman just being humble... He killed em on that track but I'm sure if they did another song em does have a chance but red definitely killed em in that song
I still bump Dare Iz A Dark Side + Muddy Waters TO THIS DAY man. Classic joints.
But did yall out-BOWED down to Lorded LUXXXXX??!?!?!!
Dude get a life! Your joke is played out and lame now!
+Leslie Narcisse You haven't bowed down to Lorded Lux yet. All my wrists is frogs!
lux 3-0
Leslie Narcisse lmao you're EMOTIONAL
+Dadee3 she got a point tho. niggahz bow to lux....difference is u ain't come up yet lml
I've been waiting for an Em/Red track since Til I Collapse. I just found out this song existed TODAY. So mad
I love this dude, but FUCK MAN, Eminem is way doper than red man ever thought of being. Awards or not. Em has it all
Wrong nigga get back to playing cod
L
First time i heard eminem I thought he stole redman style...old eminem u can feel redmans influence
+Prince Vegeta lmao
check out em pick it up freestyle. redman is a big influence on him
They need more songs together
