My family grew up with Luther and his mother did know. She tossed him out as a teen and my family took him in. She only accepted him later because he promised her he wouldn’t put it out there.
Patti was his best Hollywood friend not the inner circle. My uncle toured with him almost to the end.
His mom is extremely religious and a part of the church. I’m not sure if she is still alive but I think so because my uncle helped take care of her after Luther’s death. His mother was the reason he struggled and there are so many great stories about him but they are rarely told because people close to him know how important it was to him to protect his mom.

As a former nurse, If Luther had followed the diabetic regimen, maintained a healthy weight, worked out he could've lived a very long life. I've worked with diabetic patients who remained healthy well into their 80s. No blindness, strokes, loss of limbs, or on dialysis and today the treatments are much improved than formerly.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with someone being homosexual I wish people were more accepting of this. I always wondered why Luther Vandross never married or had any children his music and the lyrics to his songs were so heartfelt…there’s no way someone couldn’t have love in their life writing the kind of songs that man wrote and sang about. It always made me wonder but May the man’s soul rest in peace he was truly one of the greatest of all time and loved by all walks of life and generations what a legend!❤❤❤

Loved me some Luther. I was a true Luther fan. When i saw him in person I jumped up and screamed on almost every song. The crowd said leave her alone, she's a true Luther fan.
