Nah, I've seen more childish themes. The problem with themes is people tend to take them too far. Then they become very gitchy and childish. Everything needs to have a balance. Like if you've ever seen David tutera My fair wedding. He's taking some of the craziest themes like swamp, Monopoly, and mini trucks (my favorite episodes). And turn them to absolutely amazing wedding. Less is more, having the wedding at the shoe museum with a brilliant idea. The centerpieces were pretty good, I seen the same concept at a Cinderella theme wedding. The giant shoe chairs were completely unnecessary. I really the idea of the cake shoe box, however shoes on top of the cake was redundant. It would have been better if they would have just put their initials on top.

I think watching all these shows are a wonderful chance for us wedding planners to test ourselves how we would handle these personalities, budget and creative challenges. In this case the shoe arrangements while interesting will not show up well - they are low and in a wedding venue that is moody and dark really hard to see especially the green moss so they won't be able to tell it is a shoe. WHy didn't David and the bride beg that bar about renting those chairs for a day or two - granted not bright color. What about using some old shoes and painting them silver and putting some floral foam (covered in tinfoil or plastic so it do esn't leak and then some flowers coming out of the oasis/foam in the shoe.. As for custom shoe she could buy a pair of shoes inexpensively and then paint, adornments, bling, jewelery, brooches, old jewelry, ribbon and the shoe can be customized to create a unique shoe. Tables can be named after shoes with shoe photo. The groom can wear a pair of Fluevogs to coordinate with the wedding - they look custom and so unique. Maybe the photoboot could be a tribute to MOther goose and the woman living in the shoe. I would have worked on the brides outfit. She looked older. The dress and the shrug was not flattering. The jewelry was too heavy looking maybe if the green stone (Jade?) was smaller or perhaps a fux emerald would work better; ditto for the earring. She could have made some centerpieces out of shoes - perhaps glitzed them up and raise them up on a vase upside down covered in fabric to coordinate with the tables..
It's about personal taste. I like that the shoe arrangements are low key. Nice, chic, classy and subtle but still fits the theme and the atmosphere of the venue. Tinfoil shoes would be gaudy and look like the set of a children's concert. The groom also wasn't that into the shoe theme so going overboard with table names, jewelry and chairs and such would upset him; and make it look like a tacky, gaudy themed 40th birthday party. Grown women also get to decide how to dress themselves unless they ask for opinions, there is a culture clash or it is totally inappropriate for the venue
