    I just received the black dial version (coke bezel) for my 60th birthday and, I must say, I am blown away. I love my Turtles, but this is entirely something else. It is so comfortable! I know there was quite some brouhaha at release over the case size being 44mm; but wearing it now, I can honestly say the concerns are unfounded. It wears so much smaller on my 7.5” wrist. It is gorgeous and totally scratches that Doxa itch for me.
    Yes, I would have liked a more expensive movement, but the Miyota 821 is rock solid (I have it in a few other watches). Hacking really does not concern me much as long as my watch is running fast (mine gains 6 seconds per day). I can easily see myself picking up the emerald green one or the blue as well.

    I have the blue and orange one. The links are not screwed in but they appear they are. I have a small 6” wrist and it still looks fantastic on me. The lugs don’t protrude beyond my wrist. I’ve have had a lot of divers even though I’ve never actually tried diving lol. This one is special in that it looks unique, providing that fashion forward appearance for casual and formal wear, yet gives you an actual ISO certified diver just in case your inner “bond” has to take action. Sure, they could have used a nicer movement, but the one they used is durable and will last a long time with service every few years. Mine has been about +10s a day since I got it. Yes there are cheaper divers with nicer movements in this price range but they are all kinda “cookie cutter” in design. The Oceanographer is unique among a market of homages and copies. Lastly, the logo... there has been a bit of controversy over this. To be completely honest, I really like the logo. I see what others are saying and can understand why some may not like that they didn’t colour in the little connectors, but it has a neat look and I dig it. It’s more an opinion on how Bulova could or should have designed the logo. That has nothing to do with the actual watch and more to do with personal preference. I got mine on sale from a Bulova AD for $200 off retail. It’s 100% worth the price paid. It’s my current daily wear regardless of what I’m doing.

    This Oceanographer and the Lunar Pilot Chronograph together with a nice Vinrage 50-60s Bulova would be a great collection to start with. Or just a great colection period. I really enjoy your videos, thanks Rob!

    The green dial really pops in real life & looks brighter than on camera. A really lovely colour & very comfortable to wear. Not too worried about the movement as long as it is sturdy & reliable, easy to service.

    Bulova hit a home run on this one. I bought one as soon as I saw it. I wasn't even thinking of a Doxa when I bought it but I love those too. The fact that it is green is also excellent. I think with the movement they tried to match it to what would be appropriate in a 70s remake--no hacking then--so not an issue to me.

      Absolutely. I was weary about getting one since I don’t like huge watches even though I loved how it looked, but I finally got one the other day with the green dial. I have to say this watch is absolutely gorgeous and so different with its green dial. Pictures don’t do it as much justice as seeing it in person. I have maybe 10 or more watches (mostly vintage hard to find Bulovas)and I think this one is my favorite. I love it.

    Great positive review; nice to hear and see someone appraising the many really good points about this watch. It has buckets of personality and has a retro look and feel without either breaking the bank or the headaches of owning a vintage watch. No hacking doesn't bother me in the least; I know for a lot of people its an issue but I tend to wear my watches on very drawn out rotations so no biggie, the simple, tried and tested movement from Miyota/Citizen is more than ok, especially at the heavily under RRP this watch sells for. I picked up a black and red one on ebay some months ago, used for just over $200 and for that price it is making an excellent daily wearer. A nice change from Seiko! Comfortable, reliable and a good wrist presence. Recommended.

      @@RandomRobReviews A couple things... totally agree about the movement. I had a chance to get one of these cheaply about a month ago from a buddy of mine, and if it wasn't for the movement, I'd have snapped it up. Also, the stacked acrylic on the lume plots seemed to pull the light up (if you get my meaning) making them look bigger and brighter to me, anyway., which I really liked. I get that it's meant to be a re-issue, in essence, but they could have gone a bit further with it for the price... like maybe even put a precisionist movement in there or something. My $.02.

      @@randynovick7972 No, the movement is part of the charm of this watch. Actually feels like those old self-winding movements which were a lot cruder and less accurate, although these are much better in actuality. It's part of the experience of these watches and why I love them so much. I have several other re-issues, such as Zodiac Super Seawolves, an Oris Diver 65, but none of them feel as AUTHENTIC as my Devil Divers.

    This is not the first time that one of your videos persuaded me to purchase the reviewed watch. It is my 22nd Bulova, so I did not have to be sold on the brand. I would have liked a hacking movement (which most of my automatics have), but I have an Orient and a Seiko that lack both hacking and hand-winding, so it is not a deal breaker for me. It definitely wears smaller than its diameter and height measurement suggest. The shorter LTL measurement really helps.

    I owned a Bulova Oceanographer that I received as a graduation present in 1970. It had no bezel but was rated at 100 meters water proof, as they called them back then. I wondered if there was a lineage there since they carry the same name? It was a great watch and I wore it 7 or 8 years. It had a beautiful white gold case with a gray face, and was a cushion case.

    Have that watch and I really enjoy it when being on beach holidays. As my Submariners are insured and if I lose one of them during holidays, I am not covered. Unless it’s stolen from my wrist, but the Bulova is just a great watch and if you lose it or its stolen, it’s not the end of the world. But I have changed the bracelet for a rubber strap with quick adjust. But one thing I find a bit odd is that mine is not having a Miyota but an ETA movement, if I am not totally mistaken , as it’s 28 800 and hacking and hand winding. But mine is an older version than this. But very similar and with the same specs more or less.

      See here for more info on both the limited and unlimited variants:

      Basically, the Devil Diver was released in two variants - the larger (unlimited) variant with an 8215, and a smaller 41mm case with the SW200. That limited run has long since sold out, and is fetching high prices on ebay last I checked.

    One correction: the link pins are split, push pins not screwed. I've had one of the original red/black versions for a year and it's become my daily wear. I think the movement is fine for the spirit of a tough, robust tool watch. For those criticizing the bracelet clasp: the whole point of this watch is vintage reissue. The bracelet is a twin to the original Champion branded bracelets the vintage watches came with, stamped clasp and all.

  • @onemoretime8045
    @onemoretime8045 4 роки тому

    I tried one of these on the other day and share the same sentiments. I really dig the cyclops being under the crystal. The dial markers are really unique and they add tons of depth to the dial. Only downsides are that the raised dial markers keep the hands shorter than I'd like. If the hands went to the edge of the dial, they would hit the markers. Other downside was that the bracelet felt a little cheap for the price point.

    • @Barnaby_bo
      @Barnaby_bo 4 роки тому

      The shorter hands isnt because of the raised lume thats just a dumb statement. What's the point of the hands going to the edge of the dial? Bulova designed it with the indices inside of the lume pips so the shorter hands go to the edge of the indices which is exactly what you need, it would be stupid to have the indices inside of the lume pips then make the hands stretch right over the top of the indices to the literal edge of the dial

    • @onemoretime8045
      @onemoretime8045 4 роки тому

      @@Barnaby_bo I wasn't putting the watch down all, it's just a personal preference, but one with much significance. Now, I don't know what kind of watches you are into but many famous purpose built dive watches such as the Rolex Submariner and Seiko Tuna implement a long seconds and minute hand that run near the edge of the dial. In a watch designed for diving, this design element enhances the legibility of the two most important hands used for timing a dive. Long hands are thus an design element that enhance the functionality of a dive watch. Furthermore, longer hands add balance to the watch. For example, a large dial with short hands is like a tall person with short arms. It just doesn't look right.

      🗣 no it doesn’t I just looked them up this watch ( bulova ) looks way better 🤣 stop the madness “. A bit like “ maybe but you can tell aesthetically which watch cost more in elegance alone.

    would think about buying I like the nickname cause I love Alice cooper, and black sabbath, but way too tall to fit my toothpick arms
    and way too expensive for what you're getting, but would love if Bulova made more divers and characterised themselves with the devil divers 666-meter waterproof thing lol

    Aesthetically pleaseing and different from a sub homage but for the price there is always going to be compromise and brands stick to the quality to price ratio especially when they are owned buy big watch groups. I would of liked this watch with a better braclet /movement also desigh wise a circle cut out for the date wheel and a matching circle magnifer. But that all means more money that this watch model is not going to be. Its a shame that I see so many more interesting designed watches at the less expensive end that catches my eye but the quality fit finish etc isn't there,
    because I surpose the bigger watch market is at the more affordable end.
