  • Today, we're continuing a multi-video journey on which we will be building historically accurate and authentic city designs in Manor lords, a highly anticipated city-building game! I will explain how the game works as I play and explain some historical details as we go!
Get Jon Snow into your game: www.nexusmods....
    Manor Lords on Steam: store.steampow...
Manor Lords is a strategy game that allows you to experience the life of a medieval lord. Grow your starting village into a bustling city, manage resources and production chains, and expand your lands through conquest.
Inspired by the art and architecture of late 14th century Franconia, Manor Lords prioritizes historical accuracy wherever possible, using it to inform gameplay mechanics and visuals alike. Common medieval tropes are avoided in favor of historical accuracy, in order to make the world feel more authentic, colorful, and believable.

hey just a heads up something I've noticed on my playthrough is when you move market stalls, though it works villagers tend to still place new stalls on the pre-set placement markers that are displayed when the market area is first made regardless of whether the area is clear of other stalls. so you may end up with stalls being made half inside of ones you have moved if they are on or near any of those markers

Oh man - way to totally P*ss off the Lady of the Manor, a market outside her front door, and a well, then a bunch of sheep to wake her and the kids at dawn....
Having to walk all that way to the Church along public roads instead of a private path to (a very nearby Church) a reserved entrance and seating area for the family and retinue? Lovely, lol -
Efficiency is one thing, but the Manor Lord is human and dictates what goes where - remember that for a little more historical realism. 😁 - loving the series but 👍

100 nay 1,000% love this series, the ideas, the commentary, the mind theatre / larping; the fact that you're applying logic and reasoning to your buildings (even if some are purely cosmetic) and just overall the freedom that the game seems to provide and how wonderful it is applied.

I hope we can build monasteries one day in this game, that would be so cool!
Also, speaking of millers, they were not only often seen as criminals, they were also often suspected of witchcraft. So the only reasonable thing to do is to name one of the millers in your far off windmill Krabat... if you know what I mean.
And on the topic of the Jenisch, I actually (more or less) knew one. He had settled down in my hometown and sold socks at the local market. Coincidentally, he also kind of looked like my avatar Morshu.
I've also read that the Jenisch group may also vastly contain former farmers who had lost their home during the 30 Years War, but never managed to settle down again because they were now considered vagabonds.

@@bearstarpresents2264 That probably depended on whether they could pay the fare or not, which I doubt because being a marginalised group, the Jenisch were probably not particularly rich. If anything, some may have made it through indentured servitude. Additionaly, during the 18th and 20th century, the Jenisch gained more and more rights and were allowed to settle down. Many took that opportunity and assimilated. So it's not always easy to determine if someone who later emigrated to the US came from a Jenisch background.

Interesting thing about the idead of Millers being dishonorable. I've read accounts in university where millers in germanic/slavic regions would get implicated in smuggling stolen goods and contraband as shipments of grain and flour were popular places for smugglers to stash goods. For example if you have some stolen goods you want to move whithout being caught, you hide it in a sack of grain or flour. Unlikely customs or the equivilent is going to search a hundred sacks of flour.

In the game Pentiment, the miller is also portrayed as a rich a-hole and one of the suspects of a murder you're investigating, and by golly do the townsfolk hate him. I knew about the perception about millers stealing grain, but didn't know about the rest of the stereotypes associated with them. I suppose because in my corner of the world the same worry/suspicion that they'd steal part of the grain (or swap a portion of the flour with something else) existed, but the honor system you described didn't exist, so the stigma wouldn't grow beyond that.
Funnily enough, being a baker was considered a very honorable and honest job here though. I would've imagined the same "stole my flour" suspicion would apply there too, but I guess not. Maybe communal bakers came to exist later or sourced their flour themselves, as historically it would be the job of women to get together and bake bread for their individual household.

    • @patrickkelly6691
      @patrickkelly6691 4 місяці тому

Women tended to mix their own bread and take it to the communal oven to bake it themselves , these places were very labour intensive and there was no 'spare' to pay people to do those kinds of jobs irl

The "travellers" or gipsies in Spain are called "gitanos". They have a lot of communities in many cities here and speak their own romani dialect called "caló". Although they don't travel per se, the majority of them live out of the law and don't integrate well within modern society.
BTW I am absolutely LOVING this series, the content, the way you talk, your sense of humor and your eye for details. You are the main reason I want to buy this game and make a historically accurate medieval city. Thanks to you I find myself looking for historical sources about medieval Catalan settlements in Wikipedia. Servus Bavarian!
Denn was macht der schon dafür?

Concerning moving market stalls and laying them out freely in an empty market zone.
I did that and found a bug or coding negligence: placing stalls in an empty market zone does not prevent automatic popping up of new stalls in that same zone in the default locations determined by the little crosses that you see when you stretch a zone. The game doesn't see the footprints of the stalls placed by you manually and creates new stalls overlapping with your ones. I ended up with a weird picture of 2 parallel realities merged in one actuality, like the stalls are literally growing through each other.
