The idea of freeplay is not "that this should not move more than a couple of mm before the throttle starts to engage." It's exactly the opposite ie. it should move AT LEAST the specified amount (2 - 4 mm in this case) before the throttle is engaged. Freeplay is very important in all cables and levers. It prevents brakes dragging, clutch plates slipping, engine revs rising when bars are turned, or the throttle sticking on or not slowing down as quickly when decelerating.
hello Tamsen, i'm from small county named Georgia (not the one in america), my name is Kakha. I also have a bike like yours and your videos helped me a lot. Thanks, continue like that, good luck ;)
+two wheeled tv Awesome message, so thrilled you enjoyed the videos. I will keep uploading new ones but if you can think of anything specific that would help, I would be happy to try and include those.
ive never seen any off your stuff until now... just stumbled on it. is there anything you wont have a go at ?? been a long long time since I was aware off errr, a girl !!! woman !!! huh... not a man !!! getting her hands dirty with such enthusiasm and genuine interest in their passion for bikes... I think I envy your friends ? and husband. lucky sod. keep it up.... your a rare breed .
lol! thank you for the nice comments, I will try my hand at most things but the trick is to know when to ask for experienced help when/if you get out of your depth! I do love my bike and I am so pleased you are enjoying the videos
Man i couldn't find why my choke wouldn't stay open after i had to change the whole left hand assembly and low and behold, another Tamsen W, letting me know with this video, that i was missing the little spring and rubber under the assembly
Hi , I tried to remove cables to replace broken headlight switch and found it impossible, had to slacken adjustments at carb end of cable , before cable were loose enough to remove 😮😢
Thank you for reply Tamsen! One more question! I have the same bike as yours but didn’t drive for a long time. I saw your video about synchronization of Carburetors which was very good by the way. My bike carbs was cleaned with new spark plugs but there’s lots of vibration. I wanna take it to the shop to synchronize but they want to rebuild carbs hence too much cash to pay. If it was you what will you do?
If the bike has not been ridden for a while, the petrol may have gone bad, it is possible that it has blocked one of the jets within the carburettor. When I first bought my bike, it had spent a lot of time outside in the rain and had not been ridden, the bike did not idle well and once the jets had been replaced it worked beautifully. You mentioned the spark plugs were replaced which is good, but it would be worth getting the carburettors done. They control the fuel and air going into the bike, and its not going to go well if they are not working as they should be.
hi tamsen, brillant video, so easy to follow and let you to get to know your bike, i was just wondering what did you use to stick your sv650 yoke plate on top of your carbon fibre it looks wicked many thanks grant
Thanks Grant! It came with double sided 3m tape, very thin, but it has stuck on with no lifting ever since! It really does look great, I have seen other SV's since and can't believe the difference, it wasn't even very expensive! I hope you like my other videos too!
Hi! Your videos have helped me out a ton. I've been helped by your sprocket change video, front wheel bearing video, and a few others. I had to take apart the headlight switch assembly recently and I mistakenly removed the choke screw that you show at 2:39. I still have the spring and the black plastic piece that came out but I am just not sure how to put it back in. Currently, the choke lever just springs back to the top because I don't have that in. Does the screw thread into the spring? I'm not sure how it is supposed to stay in there. Thank you again for all of your videos and any advice that you may be able to provide for my problem :)
Hi Tasmin love the videos! I have a sv also love mine! Have you had any problems with rev counter stopping working everything else works on the clocks lights etc must be something simple? Thanks 😀
Thanks for the nice comments, I have not had the same issue but a quick google search suggested it could be electrical, anything ranging from the battery, to loose wires to an earthing problem. Good luck, let me know how you get on.
Hi ! You’re amazing! I feel so stupid! ^_^ I also have a Sv 650, but naked...^_^… ... Since a few days I have a big problem... When I turn right, everything turns off . To fix it I have to change the principal motorcycle fuse...but after a while it’s happening again... I think it’s because of a contact from the ignition lock... did it ever happen to you? Could you show me how to take off the ignition lock? Thanks a lot!
Nevermind, I found a video replacing the handlebar, that has it. I didn't notice one screw on the inside side. Thanks! ua-cam.com/video/HUHg5Q4oG88/v-deo.html
Hey, my sv won’t idle when cold unless I throttle it, Any ideas? Thanks!!! My sv is 07 with f injection. My air filter was oily when last changed, and have a lot of pressure coming out of crankcase when engine running
Really pleased you have enjoyed the video. I think you mean the shiny cover across the top yolk? If so I bought the online (via eBay) and put a carbon fibre effect sticker underneath to make the lettering stand out.

very nice videos, i've watched a few about the clutch cable, and throttle cables. I need to replace both, very informative, thanks.
I am really pleased you have enjoyed the videos, thanks for taking the time to post and I hope you enjoy the future videos coming up.
This did the trick on my sticky throttle perfectly! Thank you so much for your easy-to-follow channel on the sv650.
Thank you, I am so pleased you enjoyed the video!
By the way. Amazing channel. Watched video with air filter before cheking it on my bike. Helped a lot) thanks
Thanks for the comment, I am really pleased it helped!
Serega T where was the choke maintenance???
Choke cable???
Hello Tamsen. I asked a question re wiring on an SV650S gen 1. I found the answer, so don't worry. Thanks
Man i couldn't find why my choke wouldn't stay open after i had to change the whole left hand assembly and low and behold, another Tamsen W, letting me know with this video, that i was missing the little spring and rubber under the assembly
Thank you very much again, yes I cleaned fuel tank, replaced gasoline and cleaned fuel pump and put super/ premium gasoline in it.

Excellent work Tamsen, I was particularly interested in the advice to turn the handlebars after adjustment - I had forgotten that one. :>)
Such a simple tip a friend taught me and it can make such a difference!
Thank you for reply Tamsen!

Hello Tamsen, I have broken Choke lever, do you have a video showing how to replace choke lever?
Not yet, but I will add it to the list of videos to make!

Does anyone know how to remove the throttle side control unit? It's loose and I would put a tape under it on the handlebar. Thanks.

i don't know how say it English. Where did you get this cover on the traverse? ( suzuki sv 650)

Should I have the engine running to adjust the gas on the the cables? (Opener and closer?)
+Nico Schaible I did mine with the engine off and fired it up to check it was all ok after
