To Virginia for work... decided to run Hwy 50...up in the mountains coming outta Idaho big sign on the side of the road " Do not shoot Elk standing on the side of the road" about a mile up the road there was an Elk convention. . about 200 standing on the side of the road! Caught some zzz's next day I'm driving across The Great Basin. That's where it settles in on you...no wonder they call this the LONLIEST hwy in America... just then a lone immature Bald Eagle flew over the cab about 5 feet...( I love Eagles) so I pull over and start walking back the way the Eagle flew ..come up on this little bluff and there's this huge body if water . Some reservoir I guess. Anyway I'm taking a back because I couldn't see it from the hwy. So I walk towards it and I stopped! You know that feeling you get when Something is watching you! ? So I slowly pan to my left and there's more than 50 Bald Eagles standing in the shallows...whoa....I slowly pan over to my right and there's 50 more ..WHOA! I just stood there for awhile and then bowed and left .. Thought I'd share a great memory in a great truck! Take care...times are crazy! God bless

I’d recommend starting out in 2nd gear. “Granny low” 1st gear is for getting a heavy load or trailer rolling along just enough so you can then grab 2nd. Beautiful truck. Would love to own one similar someday.
Actually, granny gear is for pulling stumps. No harm in using it as a regular gear, but yeah, totally unnecessary. These trucks could lug, I had a 66 I could take off in 3rd, with no throttle

Perfect and it has decent stock wheels with good size tire, however I would put a little taller tire on those stock looking wheels love it At least it does Not have those stupid modern 20” + wheels with spokes like everyone tries to put on them
I owned a 75. Put a 1979 front end on it as well as a 4 inch suspension lift and a 3 inch body lift. Built 360 with 39 inch tires. Thing was a beast! I sold it to a marina back in the early 90s on the mon river near Pittsburgh pa and as far as I know I believe it's still used to pull boats still today. They took off the lift not long after I sold it.
My father-in-law's got one the Exact FREAKINGsame truck dying in the weeds, cept his is a 75 xlt ranger lariat w factory A/C and special order 428 two owner truck with 40k on it, orig owner was a serv Mgr at Gent Ford in colorado & spec ordered it loaded loaded. Hopefully its going up in value 👍
Miss these old Fords. My dad bought one new in 73 for 3 grand. F100 with the 302 three on the tree! Didn’t even have a radio! No power steering, power windows, power locks, not even power brakes lol!

@@codyluka8355 Ya, definitely. I'm just finishing up a 1990 Ramcharger with 1 ton axles, a 5.9 cummins and a 5 speed. I have about 12k in it, but its mine, the bank has no ability to touch it. If I doubled that I could maybe get an absolute base model bronco. But these new machines just aren't cool.

Great work truck they could back up to a loading dock and load pallets easyly and they would carry a massive load with ease as well also push heavy snow like a bulldozer lol wonderful find .
Back in the day these was our heavy hauler....they wasn't none of the big new HDs around....you had these or a 1500 4x4 or gas 2500 to do heavy hauler....

The Highboy was a serious off road capable truck, that being said when the outside temperatures reached three digits, the A/C didn't function as well as a Chevy. I had two highboys in the mid to late 70's and two chevy's in 69 and 72.
@@fredramos9206 that is the transfer case I've got its gear driven and a small driveshaft goes from it to trans it came out of a highboy I also have the crossmember but no linkage

First gear is not intended to be used for regular takeoffs like that. You should be good starting off on 2nd. 1st gear is a granny gear.

Finally a youtube driving video involving a T18 where someone doesn't habitually grind into first or start in second gear.
Well a grind into first isn’t always the drivers fault. If the clutch is worn or the transmission synchros are hot it’ll grind going into first

Ford highboy had a divorced transfer case i think they were made from 73 - 77 but I could be wrong on those years.

I use the granny gear to pull hay wagons in the field when I don't have enough help , goes slow enough for me to walk beside it a load hay .

Your first gear is a "Granny" gear intended to get heavy weight moving. Start it out in 2nd gear.
I've got a transfer case and crossmember for one of these. They use a divorced case its gear driven no chain
