Thanks Pat! I haven't ran the R1 since the upgrades. I've been pretty busy with the race truck and re-building the B44.2 right now. I should have it back out this weekend
Thanks RCW! Yeah, I think many companies figure a price point for the product and go from there. If you take for example, the Axial Wraith, to make it a decent rig, you would need to spend a minimum of $400 in aftermarket parts to get the RTR to decent state. Not too many people are willing to drop almost $800 on a wraith. The same is true for the biking industry. I recently bought the Duratrax 835e, which didn't come with a battery, which is good becuase I don't need another NIMH battery!
The 7 degree c-hubs buy you some positive caster angle while simultaneously reducing the axial misalignment between the drive shaft and pinion. What this boils down to is better steering response and less binding in the drive train. Also, the slots in the diff skid plate are not for dirt, they are for looks mostly and perhaps weight reduction.
Yeah, I loctited the braces, metal on metal, you know! I think the set screws should do. I used red loctite on the set screws and they should hold. I tried using the stock set screws that go all the way through the driveshaft, but there was some wiggling going on. I'm running a 45t tekin motor, so I should be fine. Time will tell!
One other thing you might consider that will help with some potential clearance issues would be the canted lower links for the suspension.. Looks good so far.
It's kind of funny, I ordered the raised links and got the straight! I have the raised links on order and should have them soon. I think I mentioned why someone would need the raised links during my review of the R1
I'm not a big fan of the 20t Wraith motor. The 27t SCX10 motor is pretty decent, but I really favor a 45t motor, Like the Tekin. I then run it on 3s Lipo to get some of the speed back. The ESC from the wraith will be fine.
The GMade will have the ability to get where the SCX10 can't. I've now had the SCX10, the Wraith and the GMade and really, the GMade needs less upgrades to make it trail/crawl worthy. I don't know that the Gmade can handle a brushless system, if that's what you mean by "harder" I have not dove into the trasmission yet on the Gmade and remember, the GMade also hads the portal axles, so more gears to turn. If you are looking for a speed truck, the Wraith would be it, but plan on some serious $
just to have a buggy where I can run it hardier than my scx10 can handle. ive made a little rock racing track and my scx10 couldn't handle the abuse I was putting it though, so I got this Idea to get a true rock racer where it will fit in more
Don't bother with this ali skid plate,it is rubbish and sticks to rocks like shit to a blanket...far better to get the Delrin one, this really works well and has the added advantage of moving the lower arms inboard....
which rock buggy do you suggest, to start out with? I have the parts and electronics to put into both and I want the best rig for my buck. thanks for reading my comment and keep up the great work! :)
I also bought the junfac universal shaft kit but would like to know that the difference between long one and short one ? Coz the original ones are in same size, so which is front and which is for rear?
well what I mean is to just punish it more and kinda just play and not worry about to many things and would the esc and motor package out of the wraith work for the R1? or is it to much? I want some speed to help it get over rocks that torque cant get over alone.
David Fraser The Axial SCX10 is a bit different as it's a trail truck and really grasps the "scale" concept. The SCX10 has some serious aftermarket support as well.
The RCNetwork Thanks for your thoughts. I'm planning on keeping my SCX10 too but I just fancy something more rock crawler specific and love the look of the R1.
Thanks for the comment. I have yet to run it with the upgrades as I got lots of projects going on.

Thanks for the info Josh.

This is one awesomely cool rig. Great job.

Looks like you'll be all set then when those arrive.
Are you talking about the red rods at the top of the shock towers? They're to stabilize the plastic towers

It really depends on what you want to do with it. The R1 has a pretty good value and looks that has everyone beat. What's your plans?

hi loving the rig nice job. I just order one for my self and I was wondering what upgrades should I go for first? thanks
+pedro silva The driveshafts, raised links and front skid plate are a must
get skate wax and apply to all skid areas including the bottom of links, works great! Not surf wax!
Great ideas
Hi, could you share with me what servo you used for this Gmade?
It's a Savox 1283
does it come with lockers front and rear?
+Ryan Heidecker Yep, but axles are locked
How would you compare this to an Axial SCX10?
