I just bought an A7C this year and I love it! I think if I do feel the need to upgrade in the next few years I’d just want the A7CII but the R is pretty awesome
It’s not underrated, I just can’t justify price of A7CR compared to A7RV. It would be an instant buy for me for the 2000$, but 3000$ is just too much for crippled evf and screen without real mechanical shutter and so many other compromises.
I think for 99% of people the very minor disadvantage of filming with the a7cr vs the a7cii. The reason people get it is probably the fact they dont need all that resolution for that price. I love my a7cr though :) its fantastic
I ended getting both the A7CR and A7CII when the first came out and have had them both for over a year now. Built a travel bag and didn’t want to travel with only a single body and so far have kept both Love both and the flexibility it gives me. Have other full size full frame bodies but it may be one of those that I sell instead. Love your channel and content Thank you and take care.
@@joe.nail1 Bullsh-t. Ever been on a trip with only one body that has failed for whatever reason? People worry about failed memory cards. In reality whole cameras fail at a much higher rate.
@@azaeldrm I don’t like to go far from home with only one camera and have it fail or get stolen. I bought the A7CR as the primary and the A7CII as the backup but also to use at higher ISO and lower light and I found a great open box deal at B&H that at the time saved almost $1200 over a second A7CR.
I recently upgraded from an old canon DSLR to the A7C and it's incredible. I love this line of cameras and I don't think you could go wrong with any of the models.
I have the A7RV, AND LOVE IT. I thought many time of picking up the A7CR with a small Sony lens, like the 40mm or just using my old APS-C 16-70 for walking around.
One thing to note, if you want a high megapixel camera, you better have a good computer/laptop to process those RAW images. And for a hobbyist, I would highly recommend the A7C or A7Cii over the A7CR.
The good thing is that you can shoot RAW(M) for those times you want to snap photos but are not really looking to do some serious shooting, and end up with a file the size of the A7CII. That's the flexibility I prefer from the A7CR, personally.
I think that you should get the high megapixels if you KNOW that you need more megapixels. Too many buy for features that they'll never use. Even though I have the A7RV I very often just shoot in crop mode, but I do need the resolution at times.
I totally agree, I decided to buy it, partly because of your videos and I couldn't be happier. It has great advantages, such as using the APS-C crop which in practice means you can go out with just one lens and it's as if you were carrying two. And on the other hand, what you say about the possibility of using APS-C lenses while maintaining a good resolution. I have recently been using a Sirui 75mm f1.2 in my night photography and I am very satisfied with the result, it is equivalent to about 113mm focal length but it is a great advantage to take night photos at f1.2. Without a doubt the A7CR is a very underrated camera. ;)
Honestly while I haven't done it, I think the 14mp crop mode of the a7c ii should be pretty usable too. The 10mp of the original a7c is just a little too low I think but 14mp is still a good amount of detail. You just can't crop much into the already cropped APSC image.
Thank you for all the nice content you share about this camera. Already have an A6700 and very happy about it ! But thinking about having a second one, or the A7CR with some full frame lenses for better low light and more crop possibilities in photo. I would also use apsc lenses with the A7CR, and I have questions about video specs : have you ever tried 4K60 + active stab with an apsc lens ? I know there is no super35 mode in 4K60 in the A7CR (why ?!) but I wandered if the two crops (60fps + stab) could be close to x1.5 crop ?
I just bought the cr last week, and find myself shooting a 26. Still amazing. Beast of a camera. I don't have any apsc lenses, but I will do some homework.
I bought a brand new A7CR on Greentoe for $2350. It came from a fully authorized US Sony seller, complete with warranty- this was a compelling price point for me. Deals are out there and this is a great camera for travel and just about everything else short of assignments where you need higher burst modes, like sports.
FYI… when you shoot in medium compressed raw (26 mp) like you did you’re photos are actually a bit sharper then say shooting another camera that shoots at 26 mp standard ( like A7C ~ 24 mp). This is because the file is technically shot at 61 mp and downscaled to 26 mp.
I opted for the A7RV, but the CR was a close second. I just didn't want to sacrifice some of the features for just a little less $$. In any case, they're both awesome cameras!
I’ve had an a7cr for just over a year and recently added a Nikon zf with an adapter to use the same lenses. I don’t need the 60mp for detail or printing but have come to rely on it for making my lenses more versatile. My sigma 20mm also acts as a 30m prime on my Sony, likewise my tamron 28-200 goes to 300mm in aps c mode on the Sony. On the Nikon I can’t quite do the same and keep the detail. That said, the Nikon is quite a lot cleaner at high iso and has a much nicer evf and screen. I just need to rely on more zooms on the Nikon when I want a versatile lens.
The resolution is likely overkill for most hobbyist shooters perusing UA-cam. And I say that as a GFX50 SOB, myself 😆 It’s not underrated though, if it was, you’d be able to pick them up for $1600.
I've created settings for the different custom manual modes to use the A7CR in both crop-mode uncompressed and full-frame mode RAW(M), which both yield ~28MP files, and it's been a pretty interesting setup. I'm able to "create" 2 lenses out of 1, and have 2 composition frames with me at all times if I'm carrying a single prime lens. Do you use this particular logic when shooting with your lenses? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Thank you!
@@azaeldrm I do that as well! I didn’t want to repeat too much information from prior videos but one of my favorite lenses to do this with is my 24mm 2.8. Compact every day carry lens that I can shoot wide at 24mm or in crop mode at 35mm.
@@DylanBlackburn I went for a walk today with the 24mm 2.8 and the 50mm 2.5 and was putting into practice this switch. It's quite fun! I actually discovered this via an older video you have, so thank you for putting that out! It was the reason I picked the A7CR over the A7CII.
Huh? Why to use apc 35mm lens on high res camers to get lower res shots of 50mm equivalent, when you can get nifty fifty and get maximum from it... This is wilde
@DylanBlackburn price shows how it's rated. Underrated stuff are not bought too much and gets cheaper, overrated stuff are more expensive thsn they're supposed to be because people think it's worth it. This camera is rated precisely where it's supposed to be. it's great in a lot of aspects and also in price.
It’s an amazing camera all around. I just keep my compact 40mm lens affixed & the combo goes around the world with me. But I don’t know why the author spends so much time on APSC crap. It’s a full-frame camera so why not take advantage of the huge sensor for editing & cropping?!
Sony camera bodies are crappy and way over priced. Sony Lenses are supreme, but are NOT made by Sony, which means it can very much a complicated matter for you if you need warranty service, or some sort of technical help because you might be dealing with two different companies which don't want to help you ... instead of just ONE such company. The basics of customer service have generally done down the toilet in EVERY industry on planet earth ... regardless of what you might purchase - a camera, or a this, or a that. As for Sony ... at best, it's in a distant 3rd place behind Fuji, Canon, and Nikon. Fuji actually does in fact currently reign SUPREME - Then Canon. And then Nikon, which more or less sort of needs to resurrect itself every few years. Nikon HAS in fact been teetering and tottering on the edge of bankruptcy in recent years. Not too seriously just yet, but trust me, surely bad enough. Nikon can manage, but just barely. ALL other manufacturers of camera equipment have only a teeny-tiny market share by comparison.
Sony needs to put you on the payroll for promoting the A7CR! 🤙🏽
They fly me out to events and sometimes send me lenses early to test out. Don't get to keep them but I'm not complaining!
