- When we got on the plane to fly to Europe... I wasn't expecting this. Eight years ago, I met the love of my life by posting my coming-out video on UA-cam. He posted a video response to my coming-out video, and we fell in love. Five years ago, he surprised me in Copenhagen by getting on one knee and proposing to me. This is the video of our trip and what happened leading up to the surprise proposal.

I thought we were just taking a photo… and then my life changed forever. 🌈 5 years ago today, the love of my life got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. 👬 It was the easiest and best decision I’ve ever had to make.
Not long ago, we didn’t think this was possible. We didn’t think we could find love, let alone get married in a place where many didn’t accept us. I felt like my life was a dead-end, that we were meant to be alone, and as a gay man I was morally flawed in some way. I felt like a mistake. I didn’t think I deserved love. 💔 It’s no secret that before coming out I was in a dark place. It’s a hopeless feeling, thinking that there’s no way out of a lie you’ve held all your life. But once I came out, everything changed-and eventually, things got better.
In 2014 he posted a video response to my coming out video. I was struck by his vulnerability, so we talked that night online… it was a month later that we said “I love you” to each other for the first time. What I hated most about myself has brought me more love than I could have ever imagined. 🏳️🌈 I wish I could have shown this to myself 10 years ago, just so I knew it would all be okay.
I remember when this happened! It’s hard to believe it’s been five years ago. It’s so great that you have all of this footage but you can revisit whenever you want. Thanks for reminding us of this terrific event in your lives.

And just to think it was just two years after Michael's proposal that the a conservative US Supreme Court legalized gay marriage in the US by knocking down don't ask don't tell. I hope this video along with many others makes it into some LGBT history museum. The both of you have had some tough days since but all for the better as you both love each other just as much as you did 8 years ago. Thank you for posting.
