Came across this video before I installed a new door as my old one had cracked. I can not thank you enough for posting this video. Appreciate it immensely!
Isky you are a legend I swapped doors on a dryer I had been given and it wouldn't run so I watched your DIY and put a plug in the switch slot and presto all go works a treat. Many Thanks mate
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Our door was cracked so I ordered a new one online which came today. I had a quick look at it and thought it seemed pretty straightforward - just remove those two screws for the hinge and it should be all good.. then I thought, maybe I will just Google it just in case and your video came up. OMG.. I would have done exactly what you said, and then my wife would have been so upset with the dryer out of commission for ages until it got repaired properly. You are a lifesaver - followed your method and it was fixed in a few minutes. Only extra thing I had to do which you didn’t mention was transfer the Perspex cover from the old door, and the little plastic lock bit to enable the door to click shut properly. Thank you for saving me from my own stupidity! :-)
thank you! my F&P door stopped shutting during (of course) all this wet weather. I now can still run it with a bin placed in front of the door (so the clothes don't fall out). Temporary fix but works well with the ole post it note!
Excellent video, yes it was a terrible design. I removed both screws in mine and your video suggested removing the lid and the drum... but I only needed to remove the drum and I could reach the plate with my hand, and put the screw back in properly. cheers!
Thanks for the video and we have the same problem of the broken dryer door due to heavy usage! We used this dryer since 2003. My husband took both screws out and then I researched the UA-cam and found your video 1 & 2. Thanks so much to share your knowledge and one of the above comments mentioning the size of the screw did solve our problem! Our dryer works well only except the door that kept on stopping the machine from running. We will test our dryer tomorrow and hopefully it will work! Btw, we are from Hong Kong!
Might be worth a mention but while researching, I saw in a similar video that you can screw back on the first set that was removed (the ones holding the cover) to hold up the back plate. So if you remove the 2nd set, something will still hold up the back plate. Of course, I'm going to play it safe and do that plus only remove the bottom one described in this video! I think that'll give me peace of mind that the back plate won't fall or move around when that bottom screw is removed. Thanks for the demo, I appreciate seeing what's happening inside the dryer to properly understand the issue!
Awesome mate, I have replaced four of this doors (we got ten of this model at work), the handles crack ,very flimsy, the first one I did was a nightmare because of what you just showed, I learnt the hard way!!
I have the same problem the plastic was broken so I used two match sticks and plastic cable wire and attached to the plastic on the door. Well end result its working just fine now. But i get around to look for a door soon. Cheers for the video.
Thanks Isky, I did it the wrong way but mine is hung INVERTED so the backing plate must have fallen into the corner - but the machine works now. I just hope it does not eventually hit the drum? The problem for me was the old screws (too loose without the backing plate) cannot be used so I replaced them with 10mm M5 screws which actually screw into the hole. Just a tip for anyone else who is in my position.
Ahh no worries at all! Good job. And you'll be right if it's inverted. The plate is actually tapped to the wiring harness as well so it won't get in the way. If it was right side up you might eventually have a problem because the fan is directly under it. But I've just worked out an easy way to get at the plate and fix it. I'll release a video on how soon so subscribe 😁 ps. Someone else on here came up with a good idea as well. Pop riveting the door on. I thought that was great, but screwing it on is probably easier for most people 👍 Cheers
We saw your comments and my husband went to get the 10mm M5 screws and seems it works! The door get tightened with these screws! We will try to test the dryer tomorrow. We wanna be environmental friendly so we try to fix the door by ourselves rather than throwing away the functioning dryer to landfill and get a new one!
@@macaunhon did you manage to fix it? I realised later that if the backing plate does fall off it is a problem as it will scrape on the drum so - it is very important that when you are undoing the screws to make sure you leave 1 screw in place so that the backing plate does not fall off. I ended up having to get someone to remove the drum and reset the plate. Now my problem is the new door seal is so firm that I have to still use the old door seal on the new door - which slips out all the time. I wonder. how I can soften the new seal.
Dead set legend. I swapped a door out on mine (luckily, I only removed the bottom pin, not both, because it looked fiddly to do them both!), but the door close switch wasn't quite depressing consistently. I'd get it to work a bit by bumping it, but the pressure pushed the door back a bit and it'd trip off again. Tried to make the striker a bit longer by adding tape to the end but still inconsistent. Have bent the door hinge a bit and it went first go - running it through a cycle now. Seems logical in retrospect, but never thought about it. Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeers.
Gutted, I've only watched your video after I couldn't work out why the door hinge screws weren't catching. Damn it! Looks like changing the door is going to be a bigger job than I first thought... Now to get the dryer off the wall 🤦🏻♀️
Ahhh no. Hey I've actually just worked out a way of getting that plate back on without needing to pull the entire thing apart. I'm about to make a video of the process. Basically if you're lucky enough to have a dryer where the top comes off you might be able to gain access from above... or you can leave it on the wall and simply just pop rivet the door back on 👍
@@austingarminzhu8916 Ahhh no. And sorry I haven't yet mate. Had a serious house fire recently thanks to a faulty electric blanket unfortunately. It's taking up a lot of my time. BUT! I have worked out a much easier way of fixing this problem if your door plate has fallen down after removing the door screws. Basically it involves attacking it from above. Basically removing the computer, removing the top of the casing, sticking your had in and lifting the plate back into place while you put the screws back on. I think most tops will come off depending on model. If that's all too hard I suggest just pop riveting the door straight back on. Someone in my first video did that and said it worked great. Anyway good luck man! 👍🤞😎
@@DIYDumpRat Yikes! sorry to hear about that house fire, hope things manage to work out for you soon. Appreciate you getting back to me regardless and there have been some good suggestions here which ill try!
Thanks for this answer, I take down the dryer from the wall then open the top and just use the cable to lift the plate and make sure the hole aligned then use my hand to push it in while I screw from the other side, don't even need to remove the computer.@@DIYDumpRat
What’s the worst thing that could happen by using the “dodgy method”. It won’t affect the auto turn-off will it? I assumed not. Context: before seeing this video I too had stuck in a wood chip (it’s a slightly different design kill switch, new model F&P). It’s since become stuck. I would replace the door but no point now, the switch is permanently pressed. Thanks for making the video !!
To be fair it's probably the only real issue I think this dryer has mate. I only really sell or recommend 3 machines. Fisher and Paykel, Simpson, and Electrolux. Now the Fisher and Paykel have a completely new build on their hands by the look. I just worked on my first one so can't really recommend those yet. Simpson and Electrolux are exactly the same machine though. Just with the Simpson having a manual timer and the Electrolux having a computer because its automatic. Honestly my overall favorite is the Simpson manual machines. They're pretty indestructible and I find them very easy to fix and find parts for.
Sorry no I haven't made that video yet. I eventually will. But in the meantime you might just be able to pop rivet the door back on. A girl commented on my first video I made. She did the same thing as yourself. In the end she simply pop riveted the door back on. I thought that was a great idea.
I’ve actually got an older Fisher & Paykel Dryer and I can’t attach a picture on here but the switch is on the side in the door hinge instead of above the door.
