Oh my god that would be awesome
Or maybe that would be an upgrade crafted with glow ink sacs
THIS IS INCREDIBLE
HOLY MOLY THAT WOULD BE SOO COOL
glowstone would fit better with the mineral ore theme

Yeah, Purple + Black is a really good combo (Purple is my favorite color)
This is undoubtably, one of the best little features Mojang has added in. Customizable armor is an epic way for players to give their characters a more unique look and could be helpful in RPs. For example, different factions in a RP could have different styles of armor.

@@greatestyoutuber yez
I swear, this looks like a mod. I can't believe something like this is actually being added!
The "upgrade template" is why it looks like that. That has been a common element in mods for a while.
I don't like that it looks like one, but acceptable for the amount of flexibility it provides. Like banners.
@Grey bot
Omg its gaster
I agree
Why the heck do they need to add the upgrade template?
Why the upgrade template wont upgrade my dirt block to diamond block but it can upgrade diamond armor into netherite?
Vanilla minecraft ends at 1,18,2 after that the patches are just some sort of weird mods even i wouldnt install :/
Anyways,im going back to minecraft with anime girls(not real minecraft, different game)
At the moment, there's a possible bug that'll let you have netherite armour with the netherite trim. Some pieces look pretty cool!
Get a set of diamond armour, trim it with Netherite, and then upgrade it into netherite armour. It keeps the old trim!
I actually hope they don't remove that, sounds cool
@@its-morris It's literally just invisible basically.
@@zooycuddle9207 eh, it's subtle but after trying it out, some (not all) of the patterns mix up the texture.
@@its-morris also it technically can be used to subtly increase the value of it if for flexes you really want to, as it makes all your netherite armor cost twice as much netherite
@@terramarc Yeah that's another thing
I used that to plead the case of it not being fixed over on the suggestions website
I all onboard with the netherite change, I always felt diamonds had stopped having the same value anymore bc of mending, netherite and how you can get most of your diamond equipment from villagers very quickly, this along with the trims makes diamonds valuable again.
actually i think otherwise
netherite is valuable because the amount you can get is little thus making it a rare resource
by giving diamond more purpose youre creating a bigger demand for diamond thus making people try to get more and hold more diamond making a single diamond less valuable
i feel like this change is making diamond a bit more like iron which is highly demanded, but not that valuable
i mean it surely will make diamond scarce for a little while but in the long run new balance will form and by then people will hold more diamond than before in order to fulfill the demand of trims so under the new balance diamond is not as scarce making it less valuable than before
@@cbpcpotato6244 nice.
@@cbpcpotato6244 yeah but it's relatively easy to get netherite with netherite mining still
this is probably for those who didn’t like the fact that diamond is too common after caves and cliffs
they’re finally making full netherite armor a little harder to get
Since when the Diamonds are too common? If anything, I feel that after the giant caves were added Diamonds spawn far less frequently
@@Bwaarone you need to go deep cause when I was in the deep dark giant caves I found a lot of diamonds so yeah they are less rare but do however require you to go deep
I was at diamond level deep in cave and cliffs I found 3 diamonds In the span of 8 hours them being common I do not believe.
@@Bwaarone well, they reduced the amount of diamonds that spawn next to air, so theyre more common if you strip mine
Honestly I'm a big fan of when Minecraft comes out with updates that a lot of people would consider to be "modlike". Prime example being the nether overhaul.
The nether overhaul was amazing. Not just for Minecraft either. I’ve seen a lot of spec evo projects for the nether
That's an interesting point because I forgot just how abstract it seemed and modlike for the nether to have that overhaul because now its just what the nether looks like and has looked like for years. Similarly, the new armour system feels like a modded feature but now I realise its gonna feel normal or even mundane in the future
I remember when 1.8 was "modlike"
For me this is way too modlike and seems pretty unnecessary
@@DawnOfChill I think it's a necessary change for the sake of letting people have better control over multiplayer games. Since now all armor can be team colored.
And also necessary since it give diamonds an actual use case again. Since they've severely lost their valubility over the years. With villager trading armor. And fortune existing.
I'm sure it'll feel less mod-like over time. People said the same thing when they added doors, trapdoors, fences and all that for each wood type. Or when they added the Elytra. Or when they updated the Nether.
This adds custom cosmetic armours on servers, and with mods, you could even have more trims that have different effects. This is one of my favourite changes to Minecraft in a while.
I can't wait for P2W servers to sell it for like $100 each trim
Yeah I mean it would be even cooler to have it work like banners
@@ItzStardustYT what is p2w about skins 💀
@matosksk1343 Well for one, they want money for basically anything on the server, so paying for a skin would make sense tbh. Oh wait also when you think about it, Bedrock players gotta pay for skins (not armor skins) anyways 💀💀. And second, they could include exclusive bs like even more, useless op enchantments, if you buy a certain trim.
@@ItzStardustYT i dont think u know what p2w means... its pay to "WIN"

WE CAN MAKE GABRIELS ARMOR
@@greatestyoutuber It works, it's slightly off but doable
i'm always a fan of when the game adds new gameplay mechanics. i also really like the cost to duplicate them, it presents a cool decision where you have to choose if you want to get more trims via exploring or if you want to spend the cost to skip the expedition.
What i think is more important about this update is that there is a distinguishing characteristic between all of the trim patterns. This could potentially lead to an enchantment book overhaul that I've been seeing recommended
this would _(visually)_ ruin the enchantment book tier list though
@@tg9521 you right
And? It's about time we overhaul old mechanics
It would totally ruin the "cosmetic" part of this mechanic. Everyone would just use whatever design or material gives the best enchantment
@@fridaykitty i don't mean how the books look on the armor (although that could be cool, I'd love for thorns to make the armor look spiky) but i mean the books themselves, it'd be nice for there to be distinguishing characteristics of each book that visually tells you what enchantments you have. The issue I see is when you combine books together, what then does the book look like? Maybe a combined enchantments texture that is uniform for any combined enchantment book, or maybe it takes the appearance of the first or highest level enchant on the book.

"I hope there is some sort of tip to know the recipe instead of looking in the Wiki" If there would just be some sort of integrated recipe book that would be implemented in the game... Maybe even show a button for it in a crafting table or even the inventory... That would be so awesome, I hope Mojang does add this at some point.
Ikr! Its so hard to craft random items in bulk because of the constant manual placing into the crafting table, if only there was a book that was next to the crafting ui allowing the player to see possible recipes unlocked via gameplay 😔
“””But Minecraft already has a recipe book”””

The thing I like most about this, beyond customisation, is it gives diamonds a use beyond perhaps the first set of armour someone might craft. Although, I do feel netherite armour upgrades are already substantially more expensive to upgrade to, and I don’t really think it’s necessary to make them more expensive. There’s already players who choose to stay with diamond armour because netherite is too expensive to worry about, this will make it worse.
They aren't expensive enough is the problem
Doesn't take a lot of time to get netherite armor before the snapshot if you play super linear. This is a good change to add challenge. Though Netherite is a choice and if you want to get what you want, you need to work for it

@@tsquitz I totally forgot about animal crossing customization, and thats probably the best form of customization
I love this! Especially the Story Mode vibes :). Definitely the recipes and whatnot need a few tweaks because I never would have figured the crafting out. Along with the armor stand in the UI looking a bit janky, they should definitely switch it to show just the equipment piece you put in. But other than that, I love this change.
Finally, the smithing table has use! I was beginning to think they'd never get to it lol.
I think the 7 diamonds might've been a bit of a placeholder as it seems a bit extreme to require up to 28 diamonds for a cosmetic upgrade
It's purely option to dupe it though if you don't want to use the diamonds just search more of the structures
I disagree. Once you make every thing you need out of diamonds you have no use for them. And it’s not like you have to spend 28 for a full set obviously since you will already have at least one template and will probably have more if you go looking in the specific structures
I disagree, diamonds have needed something to deal with the copius amounts of them for a while, and this gives them just that
At first I disliked this idea, but then I realized that this makes diamonds useful again. This was a great idea. And now we have gotten something a bit more unique that brings a new challenge to the game.
@@bokayo4256 I love it a lot, i havent mined for diamonds since the caves update cause its just annoying and kinda rare now, and I just got my armour and tools from villagers, but this gives us a reason to go back into the mines to search for diamonds once again

I think 1.20 is a "heritage" update of sorts as we have the ancient sniffer, ancient armoir trims and apparently archaeology
At first I thought the new update didn't add a lot, bit now, I really like it, because it's a bunch of small things that needed an update, maybe they'll find an use for the fletching table
yeah instead of doing a big upgrade they're fixing all the cracks on the wall while also adding cool stuff
So, this is probably one of my favorite updates now
The idea of the stickers and upgrading the smithing table are fantastic. Not sure how I feel about having to find the pieces, though. Surrounding something in diamonds already seems like enough of a cost to make them.
It's an either or. You have to find the template first, and to get more netherite items you have to find more templates or use 7 diamonds.

Let's be real
By the time the netherite age has been reached, players are swimming in diamonds
I've been playing in the same world for 10 years; I have stacks upon stacks of diamond in all its forms
Diamond blocks are awful, AWFUL for building; diamonds are worthless to villagers and netherillagers; and I have every piece of diamond set in the game (yes, including at least 10 diamond hoes); and mending makes repairing meaningless

I don't think making Netherite more expensive was a very good idea, but I REALLY love the trim idea- makes getting Diamonds after you already have everything needed for it more useful, and it just looks SO good
Diamonds desperately need a purpose late game so the idea of using them for stuff like this is a great first step.
By the time you get netherite, you usually have a stockpile of diamonds anyway that serves no other use than for bragging rights.
I disagree, for being an endgame armor, netherrite is so easy to get if you have a sheep or mob farm. Having to actually go to bastions for it will be better. I love more uses for diamonds as wel
@@pixel_biscuit Yeah, in an old server, I had a villager breeder and a librarian collection, so I had every enchantment on all my diamond gear, including mending. And with enchantment books not able to break in the first place, I never really had a use for diamonds and mostly just started buying stuff off other players with them that I needed or was too lazy to make a farm for
only thing i dont like is that a public server or an old server with friends might already have raided all the upgrade templates so you never get your hands on it. for the sake of how expensive it is once you get the upgrade piece do i think that is completely fine. im not a fan of however having to spend 28 diamonds to add a small copper trim to my iron armor. so customization is defiantly a endgame feature im only going to be using on my final set of armor.
As a person who really wanted emerald armour, the emerald colouring is gonna be my favourite of them all.
I really hope this makes it into the game
I would love if they continued adding textures in the style of programmer art as an option. The programmer art just feels right
Programmer art is ass
@@aexxir someone never played Minecraft back when that's what it looked like
The problem is that they want the new look to be the official look. They have the programmer art because they already had them made and it was a nice surprise for older players.
Adding new things in that style would require doubling up every single new item, a lot of extra work for the team that works on textures, all for an optional feature meant only for the comparatively small percentage of players that prefer it over the new textures to the point of actually using the texture pack, which again was meant strictly as a little bit of fun nostalgia for older players since they had the textures already.
It's too much work for them to bother with it, it's added work to possibly please a few players that clearly are still playing without it. And I say possibly because the "programmer art" for newer things would need a fully new design aspect and might not even look good to those that prefer the programmer art.
@@Kahadi if mojang won't, someone probably will make their own
No because they never had any old textures after 1.14 because that’s when they made it into the new Textures
Mojang just dropped my favorite feature out of nowhere wth. I'm really excited to see this added to the game and how Tinker's Construct is going to adapt to this new concept.
Tinkers' Construct was the first thing I thought of when I saw this, and I absolutely love both
On a similiar note - I think that Silent's gear will adapt fine.
this update has me rlly excited now. just imagine all the personalization we can finally do
It also made a behind the scenes change that makes it easier to modify textures on armor without needing new items. Thia is going to be huge for Tconstruct
I LOVE this! I've been playing this game for 12 years now and I never thought I'd see anything like this.
Me: Minecraft, can we emerald armor?
Minecraft: Ehhh... maybe
Also Minecraft:
1: the upgrade plate's crafting recipe should stay the same
2: the trims should flip the placement of the diamond and blocks as it is cosmetic and should be less expensive
3: gold trims should neutralize piglins
Diamonds can literally be ignored now thanks to villagers and anvils so I see making them need a lot of diamonds a good thing
I have a problem with that. The whole reason that they added gold neutralising piglins is to finally give gold a use, as previously, all of its armor pieces had very low durability. It was to make the game slightly harder, as gold armor is weaker than diamond/netherite, so you will take more damage, but, you will neutralise piglins, like a balance between bad gear but good benefit. Using gold trims to neutralise piglins will once again make gold slightly less useful. Yes, you *probably* need gold to craft the trim but the game becomes too easy by using it on echanted netherite gear. That would undermine using gold armor. Just my thoughts!
I think the price is fine. It's supposed to be a very end-game cosmetic feature, not something readily accessible some random guy with full iron. Like the Enchanted Golden Apple banner, the trims are a flex
@@Quogle yes but I don't think the cosmetics should be too expensive so that people who don't have as many diamonds readily available will still be able to use the feature, along with the fact that these are purely cosmetics, if the had more function other than decor I could see them being more expensive

It's not like the recipes are super complex or hard to come by that it feels like a labor figuring out the recipes.
I do enjoy the surprise of a new recipe I myself tried to reverse engineer.

Im losing my mind over how cool some of these look
That's so cool! I didn't know I wanted this but that's so cool
All they'd have to do to fix the issue of making things more expensive is simply make it so you can still upgrade armor normally without cosmetics without the smithing template, so it costs the same for normal looks, but the extra cost only comes with cosmetics
@@bruhman846 I just realised I misred the comment lol
The recipe for the upgrade needing a bunch of diamonds just feels like when modders put a nether star in the recipe for their OP items for 'balance'
so trueeee
I feel like it makes sense, as diamonds haven't actually had any new uses in a very long time, so any new diamond sink would be great
Diamonds are much easier to find than say, a nether star. Also when you are in the late game, you will probably have stacks of diamonds laying around. This gives a use for them. You don't have stacks of nether stars laying around.
Exactly, give us a cool difficult crafting recipe, I hate when games are like “wow that seems to easy time to add an arbitrary item who’s sole purpose is for the recipe so it’s more difficult”

@@crystalcarbon but it will be much more rewarding tho when making it. Many people don't realize this diamond and netherite are really easy to come by.

Bro it aint easy
@@crystalcarbon maybe you just unlucky? I literally get full diamond in just 2hr of playing 1.19, while it only take around 1hr to get full diamond in 1.12. And I'm not even that good with minecraft.

Your such a “youtube” man, always with the good vids :)
This is a very good change. Maybe it could be implemented a bit better, but this is still really nice. I hope that we can do this with elytra too.
*become butterfly*
I hope they'll make it so that you can do it on tools too. Never again would I break my enderchest with the wrong pick
I mean, you could just name your silk touch pickaxe, than you won't break it with the wrong one
@@unununununun7012 technically yes, but I'd have to hover my cursor over it to check if it's the right one; there's no way to tell them apart just by looking at them
@@stary_kartofel2137 i mean holding the pick automatically shows you which pick you using anyways, if you rename it. it barely takes a second to see the name of your pick.
Other than that, interesting idea anyways, would be great if Mojang do add that into the game
my immediate reaction was "how fucking vague is that"

This will be the closest we'll get to having somewhat vanilla emerald armour

as someone who is really into modded Minecraft, this update feels vanilla as heck
This makes sence
This is fabulous, its just what I’ve been needing for the last ten years.
Now we just need the in-game armor stands to have arms by default without commands.
This feels really cool, but I do agree it seems a bit expensive for the netherite upgrade
it's endgame armour for a reason, it really needs to be harder to achieve lol. even getting diamonds have become trivial now, it used to feel a lot more rare
with each new update the game somehow continues to get worse
@@cyberdetroit i mean, you could just stick to diamond armor. like the great old versions right?
@@oohahh older versions > newer versions
Not gonna lie, thats a really good gameplay update. Now the players instead of just getting 24 diamonds and 4 netherite and upgrading it, they will have to explore -> find the templates -> duplicate them so that they can make a full set (if they want to) -> and then they will have a full set of netherite armor which for me its very nice and interesting change! I hope we get updates like this one more often because as Phoenix says "Gameplay updates keeps the game a live.'' Unfortunately we dont get them very often which i hope it change :)
And then you go to multiplayer and everyone's raided the Bastions that aren't thousands upon thousands of blocks away and now Netherite armor is entirely closed off from the majority of players because they can't get that armor in any way without finding the trim
@Andrelicus doesnt work for pre-established multiplayer servers, or newly started servers with people who simply have more time or dedication than other players. It's going to needlessly cut off players from something by requiring a key item thats based purely on Structure Loot, rather than being able to just dig for it anywhere on the map.
@Andrelicus if we want Netherite to be harder to obtain, make it more expensive. Not force it to require a structure locked loot generated item that can very easily get raided. I'd be perfectly down for requiring four pieces of Netherite per equipment, alongside decreasing Netherite spawns slightly, because at least then it's still a wholly map-wide resource. This change only makes it harder for people who don't have the time or dedication to speedrun to Bastions and make sure other people can't get the gear first.
In the end though, when has Minecraft ever been a game about grinding out endgame difficulty. If you want a game like that, play Monster Hunter. People will always get the top tier items within reasonable time, and once they have it, they have it for the rest of the game. This change does nothing for solo worlds, because if you're mining for Netherite, finding a Bastion should be a piece of cake. All this change does is cause potential to get fucked over in Multiplayer.
itd be cool for things like gold giving you passiveness to piglins and stuff, too, while wearing netherite
yknow what'd be cool? a preview button. The game logs which trim tablets you've had in your inventory, then lets you view those in the smithing table. for example if youve ever held the spiral one, but dont have it on you, you could still preview it
Not sure how I feel about the templates but the armour stuff is just so good
I love this! I makes getting OP gear so much more expensive like it should be! I wish the cosmetic "upgrades" actually were upgrades. Like one grants fire resistance or more armor or more damage, stuff like that. I love little nuances like that which allow for a more customized gameplay experience.
stacking those with enchantments would probably wreck the game
While it might sound fun, it would limit the idea of using them as self expression / decoration. Like if one of the upgrades were better than the others everyone would use the same, and no one would look any different.
The entire point of them is to be able to make your armour look unique while not sacrificing any quality. Adding buffs to them would ruin that and make it so you have to try to get "the good ones", no different than enchantments
I think this might go into play further on, with different trims, and also upgrade. I think they made it switch between because upgrades and trims will be different things and have a different rotation depending on which
this change looks amazing!!
