I love the Canadian healthcare system chat. I (an American) had to get oral surgery and I was like "hey this is my first time having anything more than a cavity filling and I'm kind of nervous." And the dentist was like "no problem, here's a prescription for something that will get you so high you won't even remember that you're a human anymore."
The criticism is less about the people who bought it and didn't like it, but more about the publisher who sold a steaming turd for $60. If we place all the blame on consumers, then that's saying that we're okay with companies openly lying to us. Yeah, that's always been the case, but that's all the more reason to not get complacent about it.
@@CheshireCad you may have missed what he said. Basically if you buy a game with really bad reviews it's your own fault. Not every game is good even if you think it should be. As gamers we need to just avoid bad games
@@armed_but_blind2768 - Again, you're blaming consumers for a company's willingness to lie. You're laying 100% of the responsibility on people for the crime of "not reading reviews before buying something", while completely forgiving a billion-dollar company for creating a product that they know is terrible, and lying to consumers via marketing instead of trying to fix it. Yes, I expect every game to have a basic level of quality. Video games exist for entertainment, not to act as some sort of asinine booby-trap for uninformed consumers.
@@CheshireCad asinine booby trap 😂 ever watched a bad film? YEah well games are no different, some of them suck but they still get released regardless. That's why we have reviews.
you haven't embraced childhood silliness because of your age, but because of your little one. It happened the same to me with my 2 nephews (I'm basically their father figure) and that was right after losing my father, and short before losing my mother, but you need to keep the silliness for them.
3:36 This is exactly my sentiments about the Gollum game. It's already brought me more joy than 95% of all other games (I will not be playing or buying it lmao)
I played this game for a couple hours but tbh it feels too slow. the fact that it's basically impossible to regen is also pretty bad cause once you get really low health the chances of the run coming back are really low.
Ive nearly 100% it and yeah i feel the same way, there is a chestpiece that gives a 3% chance on enemy kill to regen 1 life and despite how bad that sounds its essentially mandatory
@@alexxs150697 If you have revive it removes the timer once you die and revive. But there is also a second boss with another 40 second timer so unless you have two you are just gonna need giga damage
@@lovire2299 - That's 1 life for every ~33 enemies killed. That's ~10.5 health per minute at the rate NL was going. The +0.2 regen per second upgrade gives 12 health every minute. The metaprogression regeneration gives 9 health per minute. I'm kinda skeptical that such a small bonus could really be more useful than the other armors. But, maybe that's just a testament to how absurdly scarce health recovery is in this game.
Regarding the opening rant, the specific style of meta-progression whereby you start future runs with higher stats through an essentially mindless process is indeed bad design. It's a sort of weird reverse-difficulty that doesn't acknowledge it's a difficulty system; your first run is essentially on hard or impossible (sometimes actually impossible) difficulty, and you win future runs not because your skills have improved or you've learned the systems, but because you're really now playing on a lower difficulty. Imagine such a system in something like Binding of Isaac, if your initial stats (movement speed, fire rate, damage, etc.) were half or a quarter of what they are, and you gradually increased them back to the intended level by accumulating 'currency' in failed runs. Except that you also don't know what the intended level was; are you 'supposed' to max out all of your stats or is it intended to be completable before then and maxing out stats is just for those who are struggling? No-one can tell. This is of course very different to meta-progression where you unlock more options and variety for later runs; more characters, items, even enemy types. It is also very different to objective/achievement-based progression, including the achievement based unlocks and the Well Keeper in Halls of Torment. Even if it still has the effect of making future runs easier, there is a fundamental difference between achieving an objective vs doing the same thing over and over until you get stronger. It's almost the exact same thing as grinding for levels in a JRPG, and the _need_ to grind has always been seen as bad design, _if_ it is required; optional grinding is also completely different.
I actually completely understand the graphics take. It depends on the game I guess, like I loved the beautiful open worlds of the newer Pokemon games or Zelda, but gen 3 rom hacks have a perfected charm to them that new stuff just can't match. +2 on that one for sure
I'm almost already a bit tired of the game. Its absolutely brilliant. Its great. Its fine tuned dopamine. But i dont see a lot of variety. No weapon variety, always the same single weapon for each hero. The same few abilities / spells. The same x% more damage upgrades. No new mechanics thrown at the player during gameplay, no diverse choices beyond which % is better.. I dont know, it needs some serious expansion to sustain more than a few hours, tbh.
Not to mention this is probably the least inspired or interesting one. (Yes I'm still probably going to play it for 50 hours because these games are like crack and make me forget I'm depressed temporarily)
