I don’t understand how this marvelous symphony orchestra, undoubtedly one of the best anywhere, not just in Europe, manages to maintain its high standard in spite of the rather feeble chef conductors it has been subjected to ever since Jarvi left. Mysterious. Dirigentenmangel.
Wonderful event. I really like Mr Andres Orozco-Estada and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra. They are one of the best European Orchestra in these days. Miss Anja Hartenos sing beautifully with her huge dramatic voice. The Vier Letzte Lieder requires an amazingly well developed breath -control, flexible voice with full range ability of expression, different temperatures, colours and hues. Asa performer/singer it is almost impossible to reach the level of the sublime poetry and the wonderfully illustrating music. Ms Harteros got very very close, like no-one else, singing in the space of the Beauty of this amazing opus of Richard Strauss. The orchestra and the dirigent are amazing!! I love them a lot. Thank you.
I agree. Franz Strauss, Richard's father, was a professional horn player, and Richard obviously had great affection for the instrument. Listen to the horn solo in the opening to the "Mondscheinmusik" from the final act of his opera Capriccio. It's beautiful; enjoy. ua-cam.com/video/CZu1ebz5hPU/v-deo.htmlsi=lYyd3JhbPWCBk09l
Very gratifying solo for hornist- lots of glory but in a register that's hard to screw up. That bit at the end of the 3rd movement is a killer, though.
I was not familiar with this singer until now and I'm blown away by the richness of her tone and vocal expression as she captures the essence of these songs in such a fresh way.
Thanks to Ms.Harteros, maestro and the orchestra for I really love this beautiful piece. I think Ms. Hartreros was in bad condition that day especially in Fruhling. She had an unbelievable performance in 2009 with maestro Jansons and Bayerischen Rundfunks.
Thos songs are very difficult for a soprano, they are very demanding for the voice and every interpretation has his admirers or non-believers. I got my personal favorite performance by Jessye Norman, but as I said it's a very personal taste. The star in this concert is the orchestra with his exquisite horn and violin solos.
These songs are among the most gorgeous pieces ever written. I was first introduced to them in the movie "The Year of Living Dangerously" with Kiri Te Kanawa doing the singing of the third song. I was later overwhelmed by Jessye Norman singing the whole work. These songs got me through the darkest period of my life and I am deeply thankful for them.
Such a fine orchestra .One of the best in Europe. This is a good performance which i really enjoyed. I just want to add that my 3 favourite soloists for this composition are Flagstadt ,Schwartzkopf ( her earlier recording conducted by Otto Ackerman which is a pure delight but poorer recording quality compared to her later version with George Szell ).and the finest of them all..Jessye Norman.
A solid interpretation of these splendid songs though it took her a while to get warmed up. Beim Schlafengehen must have been a re-take as she lost her way in the live stream when I watched it last week. For the most part, she seemed tentative with the high notes. The principal violinist's solo was exquisite.
bizarely, without me realising it the previous performance i had just listened to on youtube was Hartreros with Maris Janson. then this video immedaitely afterwards... her interpretation has not aged well.... (in my opinion)
I'm sorry - so many wonderful performances from this orchestra and conductor - but the soprano is just not quite up to this work. Possibly one of Strauss' greatest works it demands a great performer, so perhaps I set my barrier high; too high in this case. The orchestra, as usual, is excellent.

So gefühlvoll und so natürlich Anja Harteros wundervoll!
ja, das empfinde ich auch so

That horn solo towards the end of second movement is just 😍😍😍😍😍

The magic of a live performance :-)

Thank you. Beautiful performance. Exquisite interpreter.
I. Frühling (Allegretto) : 00:34
II. September (Andante) : 04:32
III. Beim Schlafengehen (Andante) : 10:08
IV. Im Abendrot (Andante) : 16:34

Bravi ALL. What a treat. Just Huge.
Excelsa!!!!
Prodigieux quatrième lieder. Danke.
Zauberhaft! Bravo!
violin & horn from 12:04 to 13:16
Wonderful performance! Makes me think of Korngold's 4 Abscheidslieder.
En quatro pasos per la vida…first dramatic,,,..calming……more…..moriendo
She does it very nice and expressive
Excelente programa
She is quite absolute divine as only a greek singer can be
sssuper, danke
Brava!
Wonderful!
Anja is simply the best - there is nothing more to say 😀

Yes, not an enthralling voice for these wonderful songs
She is still out of tune all through Schlafengehen.

I believe this video is composed of snips from more than one night. The 1st hornist becomes a woman in the very last shot.
The crowning jewel of the "Too Late Romantic Period" IMO. Just wondering how or why Marc Gruber turned into a woman in the last shot.
This is pretty much how she sang Elsa at Bayreuth last summer. Squally.
Interesting. Is Squally good or bad?
@@herbiecactus6687 Duh, bad.
13:17 😌
The matching between the soloist and the orchestra does not necessarily sound ideal.
12:11
9:16 Tomaz :)

So many feelings in her eyes.
But the conductor seems to ignore completely what the lieder speak about.
The conductor is colombian.... probably does n t even speak / understand the poetry ..
@@franzwallner4281 OK but he's paid and very well paid to do the job.

Jesus, in "September" she was lost in the beginning....
5:12 SHE LOOKS AT THE MAESTRO SAYING "Not Too Fast With The Tempo, Mr!" WITH HER EYES. LOL
Miss Harteros......no no no. Cold and wobbly 😦
How is she a star? Her voice is very ugly.
Just dreadful.
Without any charm, a completely overrated singer. Unfortunately terrible.
