Yes, I grew up watching Disney on Sunday nights one of the few pleasures I was allowed as a kid. I liked seeing Rex at the beginning of the films. He wasn't wrong, he WAS handsome and a beauty of a voice. I wish Disney would get a clue and replay those old pictures in our present times. Would be soothing overall. Mr Skinner I don't know where you have been but very grateful you and your work are now so prevalent on UA-cam. In 1995, after attending the annual quarter horse 🐎 races, in Sonoita, AZ, Rex Allen, Robert Mitchum, who had driven down from his ranch in northern California and Gene Autry, ate a steak dinner at the Sonoita Steak Out. I was devasted to have missed this fantastic duo...having to supervise the rodeo grounds....I really missed seeing my 3 heros. I also heard Mitchum was very disappointed thatchis horses didnt win. I remember thinking "This is the last of the REAL cowboys." That same year, I took my mother to see Roy Rogers and Dale Evans along with the Sons of the Pioneers , preform for the last time in Tucson Az for her birthday. She and Dale were the same age, both born in 1912. Thank you from Cochise County AZ! 💗
I will always remember and can still hear Rex's warm and comforting voice narrating all of those Walt Disney animal movies. I always think back on those with great fondness.
I was born in Willcox. Lived there until the second grade. I have fond memories of the October Rex Allen Days parades. Rex Allen would drive down the Main Street in his fancy convertible that had door handles that looked like six shooters and there were even real silver dollars inlaid on floorboards. He was very nice. Rest In Peace Arizona cowboy, you left a wonderful legacy.
I met Rex back in the early '60s in Chicago, he was on Koko getting ready for a performance at the NRF, so we had a nice conversation for about 5 min. real nice, pleasant person. He was performing with The Frontiersmen, I got all the autographs, still have them. Since I idolized all the cowboy stars back then this was very special to me. He was so nice.

I love all of Jerry Skinner’s documentaries. He does a great job. We got to visit the Rex Allen Museum in Willcox. The Friends of Marty Robbins Museum is right next-door and it is worth a visit. We paid our respects to Koko the Wonder Horse. What a coincidence because I’m actually wearing a Rex Allen T-shirt that I purchased while we were at the museum and here I came across this documentary. Thank you Jerry!
Born and raised in Rapid City 1941 me and my brother never missed the country western movie rather it be Roy Rogers Gene Autry Tex Ritter Lash LaRue or Cisco Kid RexAllen we watch them all
His voice was one that once heard, you could not forget ! 😊 There was one TV in my neighborhood in the 60s and all of us kids were sure to be in front of it on Sunday night to watch Disney shows and listen to Mr. Rex Allen ! 😊 👍 Thanks for sharing and take care. 👍
Another amazing video Jerry! Side note- according to a Rex Allen Museum employee in Wilcox. If you look out the front door (across the way past the statue and large grass field,) you’ll see Colonel Henry Hooker’s house in Indian Red which housed Wyatt Earp and his kill posse on the run from the Clanton’s Cowboys gang. I ventured to the house, but didn’t see any sign or marker indicating its history. Too bad, as I think it should be on something like the National Register of Historic Places, the ranch itself is however- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sierra_Bonita_Ranch
I loved Rex Allen's voice. I also remember him being the Grand Marshall of the Days of 47 Parade in Salt Lake City... I thought he was the best looking cowboy I had ever seen. BTW, Rex junior has a great voice as well. Rex Jr put out a great western album with his dad and Roy Rogers... love it.
Watching this reminds of when I was a young boy in South Africa. My grandmother managed the Oxord Cinema in Durban, so I could get in free. It was a tiny cinema, where you could take in food from the 'tea-room' attached to it and eat on long shelves at the back of each aisle of seats. I don't remember now how many cowboy B-movies I watched - they were played on a continuous loop - but I've no doubt Rex Allen appeared in some of them. This was the hey-day of the Western. People had very simple tastes then.
I was brought here after playing " Knock knock rattle" one of my favourite songs 101 years after his birth and more than 3000 miles away. Thats a real testiment to his fame. RIP Rex, thanks for the music you left us.

Just a suggestion; there’s another great voice we all can remember and that’s Paul Harvey. While serving in the Army; we actually stopped everything to listen to Paul Harvey News and Comment on AMERICAN FORCES RADIO. Both Men; Rex Allen and Paul Harvey represented Pure Americanism and Truth in my books. Thanks Jerry; another great job and presentation.
I used to play those Paul Harvey shows on my radio show. They were distributed by Armed Forces Radio, but played on commercial stations as well as military. They were sent out on large discs that were played on the turntables at the radio stations.
Everyone listened to Harvey, a funny story was my aunt bought her first color tv set and it didn't work correctly and the store just brushed her off on her complaint so she wrote Paul Harvey telling him about it and the reason she had bought it was because he advertised this brand, the next thing you know a new tv was delivered and the problem disappeared.
As a Speech student for Waco (TX) High School, I was among those on a big regional speech tournament, in Muskogee, OK. I won 1st Place in Boys Radio by reading the Harry Houdini script from Paul Harvey's "The Rest of the Story" series. Both Houdini and Harvey were great heroes of mine, and this 1st Place was truly theirs.
I've lived in Willcox all my life and never heard this much information as I have now. We of course learned about him in school and I've met Rex Allen Jr a few times, but he isn't as nice as he seems. Great video, I enjoyed watching it.

I know, just could not, not take advantage of the comment. Jerry's ability to research a person's history is an amazing feat. My granddad, through Walt Disney, was fortunate enough to get Rex Allen to narrate the audio stories of his Wyoming hunting trip movies he had made during the 50's and 60's. I never knew they existed until years after Grand Pa passed on.
"Frontier Doctor" - I had forgotten that but should not have since we watched it every week. We had our first television in time to see it. Loved the show!!!

Rex Allen also did Purina Dog Chow and Heston farm equipment voice over commercials. I remember Lobo and many others for Disney very well. I wish you could have included one of his clips; just to hear his voice again.

I got to talk on the phone with Rex Allen when he appeared at the Spokane Washington rodeo. I had the flu and couldn’t go to it. So i called the fair grounds. He just happened to be walking by. The man i spoke with gave him/the phone. Rex/was so sweet that he said he would dedicate his 1st song to me. Did you know that he had over 400 pair of custom cowboy boots?

I've been to Wilcox several times and always visit the museum. I have a picture standing beside Rex's Statue. The buggy from Frontier Doctor and numerous artifacts are in the museum. But I never knew the whole story until this video. What a treasure I found here.
Good presentation. I live at Rex's hometown of Willcox, Arizona. I had the pleasure of meeting him several times. He certainly had a distinctive speaking and singing voice. It's been said that had he come along ten years earlier he could have given Roy and Gene a real run for their money.
Great video!! I saw most of his movies in West Frankfort, IL during the fifties. My dad loved the all the "Cowboys". Had no idea how his life was. Excellent narration by Mr. Skinner.
I remember going to the neighborhood movie house with my sister to see Rex Allen early 50's I suppose. Thought he was cool the way he had his guns in the holsters backwards. That's the way I wore my Hopalong Cassity cap pistols. I thought his speaking voice was so smooth and peaceful as I listened to him narrate the Disney films. I don't remember if we had any of his singing recordings but I would think we did. Another good job Jerry.

Do you remember The legend of Pecos Bill? In one of his narrations legend had it that Bill dug The Rio Grande River.
I met Jeanine Allen One of Rex's ex wives, while performing at the Tahiti Neui in Hanalei, Kauai. We became good friends, and she loved to tell stories about Rex Allen, and his friends! It was fascinating, and I got to hear many Hollywood stories about how they all interacted. John Wayne, Slim Pickens, and others waking Rex Allen up early in the morning to watch a football game, while all sitting in underwear and munching on Kentucky fried Chicken, and beer! What a life!
I'm from Douglas Az near Wilcox and legend has it Johnny Depp has a ranch around those parts and John Travolta has a house in old bisbee az ..I think I saw Johnny Depo once more time after filming the movie there at a video rental store in the early 90s called Angie's videos.

We would watch the Saturday matinees in Savanna Ga. Back to back movies from noon till 9. Admission- 50 cents !

I know, just could not, not take advantage of the comment. Jerry's ability to research a person's history is an amazing feat. My granddad, through Walt Disney, was fortunate enough to get Rex Allen to narrate the audio stories of his Wyoming hunting trip movies he had made during the 50's and 60's. I never knew they existed until years after Grand Pa passed on.

Rex sure could "HOOK" the Ladies but, he sure couldn't "We'd for long". His last wife ran over him.
It wasn't his wife. It was his caretaker/secretary who accidentally ran over him after he collapsed in the driveway from a massive coronary.
Rex Allen also did Purina Dog Chow and Heston farm equipment voice over commercials.
I remember Lobo and many others for Disney very well. I wish you could have included one of his clips; just to hear his voice again.

I got to talk on the phone with Rex Allen when he appeared at the Spokane Washington rodeo. I had the flu and couldn’t go to it. So i called the fair grounds. He just happened to be walking by. The man i spoke with gave him/the phone. Rex/was so sweet that he said he would dedicate his 1st song to me. Did you know that he had over 400 pair of custom cowboy boots?

I've been to Wilcox several times and always visit the museum. I have a picture standing beside Rex's Statue. The buggy from Frontier Doctor and numerous artifacts are in the museum. But I never knew the whole story until this video. What a treasure I found here.
Good presentation. I live at Rex's hometown of Willcox, Arizona. I had the pleasure of meeting him several times. He certainly had a distinctive speaking and singing voice. It's been said that had he come along ten years earlier he could have given Roy and Gene a real run for their money.

Great video!! I saw most of his movies in West Frankfort, IL during the fifties. My dad loved the all the "Cowboys". Had no idea how his life was. Excellent narration by Mr. Skinner.
I remember going to the neighborhood movie house with my sister to see Rex Allen early 50's I suppose. Thought he was cool the way he had his guns in the holsters backwards. That's the way I wore my Hopalong Cassity cap pistols. I thought his speaking voice was so smooth and peaceful as I listened to him narrate the Disney films. I don't remember if we had any of his singing recordings but I would think we did. Another good job Jerry.
Do you remember The legend of Pecos Bill? In one of his narrations legend had it that Bill dug The Rio Grande River.
I met Jeanine Allen One of Rex's ex wives, while performing at the Tahiti Neui in Hanalei, Kauai. We became good friends, and she loved to tell stories about Rex Allen, and his friends! It was fascinating, and I got to hear many Hollywood stories about how they all interacted. John Wayne, Slim Pickens, and others waking Rex Allen up early in the morning to watch a football game, while all sitting in underwear and munching on Kentucky fried Chicken, and beer! What a life!

I met Mr. Allen who was the Grand Marshal of a Dodge City Days parade in Dodge Ciity, Ks. He had a fabulous voice.

I'm from Douglas Az near Wilcox and legend has it Johnny Depp has a ranch around those parts and John Travolta has a house in old bisbee az ..I think I saw Johnny Depo once more time after filming the movie there at a video rental store in the early 90s called Angie's videos.
