He got enough money as it is, if you want to give your money to strangers go and give it to a streets sleeper or a not to good busker, you’ll feel better than giving to the rich!..
And why is Premier Guitar the best hands down? Where else can you go from Adrian Legg to Dave Cobb to Jake E Lee, to Tom Morello, to Tom Bukovac, to Jason Isbell, to Doug Wimbish, Duane Betts, to Uli Jon Roth, to Phil X, to G.E. Smith with all the rest!! This was where I learned who Tyler Bryant & Tom Bukovac were. And the Ace in the hole is John Bohlinger!!!! Can't get enough. Thanks for a video with one of my favs G.E Smith
GE is always talking about the "Cool Cats" from back in the day, I hope he does realize that he IS one of them! His musical ability and knowledge is off the charts! I'd love to hang out with him for a day or two!
Same thing with me. G E makes it sound so good and look so cool. Would love to have a beer with him, and I don't even drink... G E ,if you're ever near muscle shoals, hit me up lol.
GE Smith is a bonafide badass! He's such an incredible teacher of guitar and music in general. Woefully underappreciated. He's such a heavy fuckin' hitter. What a great hang he must be. LOVE LOVE LOVE Mr. GE Smith!!! ❤
Hey G.E. I remember when that Butterfield LP came out! I was a senior in high school. Coming off of top 40 tunes played over AM radio it was, without exaggeration, revolutionary.
I used to have a Butterfield album way back that had Bloomfield on guitar. I remember a blurb in small print on the back of the cover that said something like "to fully enjoy this recording it must be played at the highest volume possible." Tres cool.
@@kellyomalley1873 In his own words : I don't know why they fired me, well, you're in a job and then you're not in that job any more. Such things happen. SNL was sold to another company, the atmosphere changed, there came some corporate guys with clipboards, and many people were fired that year. I was upset at first, it cost me a lot of money, but later on I realized I got freedom to move forward. Check the 2 hrs. interview on UA-cam. It's a treat. This man is not only the best and most knowledgeable guitar player, but also very entertaining as a storyteller.
Mike Bloomfield's slashing slide solo on "Shake Your Money Maker" on the 1965 PBBB Elecktra record first time I heard in in '67 was a flash point for me too and now I am a blues guitarist myself because of it. I can play Keith Richard's solo in "Last Time", it's easy and you can study his fingering very well on that same Ed Sullivan Show video you mentioned.
I remember the video he made a few years back playing Bloomfield’s hacked up Tele. GE really has a lot of admiration and respect for Michaels playing. They are both in the same boat as players. Both monsters of the instrument yet relatively unknown outside of the guitar community. Mr. Smith you are the genuine article! It’s awesome to have UA-cam these days and be able to see these videos of you playing. As a teenager I loved seeing you on SNL playing tasty licks and showcasing all of those gorgeous vintage guitars. At that time it was my only access to drooling over a black guard Tele or a 58 V etc. Thank you so much!
G.E. is the man! This is great, lets see some more with some close-ups of the fretboard. You cant get enough of G.E. Smith. Cmon man he ain't doing much at this time anyway.
Big fan of GE's. Love the fact that he uses Curt Mangan strings. Started using them last year. Wonderful stuff. GE has some lesson available on his website, but the cost is in the "thousands" of $$. Wish he would do a TrueFire course.
GE is a recognized Telecaster player but in reality he’s a big guitar nerd like Bonamassa and all of us and his taste in vintage guitars is widespread. A big reason for me to tune into SNL every Saturday night was to check out his playing and which guitars and amps he would use...😉👍
GREAT analysis. And yes, incendiary. I have a deep reverence, and really a preference, for the original blues masters, but Butterfield and Mayall and others really were bringing something cool to the mix.
G.E.: .009’s in 1965? Doubt it. Ernie Ball’s didn’t come along 1966.. Last Time was recorded at RCA Studios in Hollywood on January 18th, 1965. Dual Showman. Andy Babiuk's book "Rolling Stones Gear" has some great photos and info!
Brian - the only thing original about what is essentially a Staple Singers cover (with closing vocales inspired by “Bread & Butter,” by the Newbeats with whom they’d toured Australia.)
Easily best utility guitar player all time could and did play with so many artists and never looked wonky. Could fit anywhere...sounds very Duane Allman meets Jesse Ed

Can we get a weekly GE check-in? It would just make me feel better.
Yes and not even playing guitar. I’d rather hear him tell stories about his life and career. I would pay for a four hour audio book of that.
G.E. is always a treat... humble, classy, and a wicked player with a deep sense of history
Yup.. always enjoyed watching him
Humble LMAO
Humble?
Will somebody please give this a guy a show or something, his musical knowledge and personality are incredible!!!
Check out old Saturday Night Live performances... he led the SNL band.
This IS the show! Just give us more, G.E.!
I watched him every weekend as a kid in the 90s
He got enough money as it is, if you want to give your money to strangers go and give it to a streets sleeper or a not to good busker, you’ll feel better than giving to the rich!..
GE Smith is a national treasure.....more of this...all day long....
I hardly think he is !
G.E. always looks like he's having way too much fun! Such a cool cat!
G.E. is a legend, incredible musician. Anyone giving him a thumbs down wasn't around in the 60's. Great stuff here.
There are a few people on my bucket list that I wanna just hang out with and GE is on the top three.

Man..just love this guy and his playing.
Great Guy (G.E. Smith), love his passion about great music. that Stones lick is so seemingly simple yet so profound. Great post G.E.

Plz give this legend some quality audio recording , he fully deserves that
Geez, I have been playing this song for centuries (About as long as old "Keefe" has been alive) & just noticed those open strings,, Thanks G.E Smith
GE Smith = Legendary 🍻
I love anyone who has this much love for guitar!
G. E. Smith is always so fun to watch. I like the video where he played Bloomfields Telecaster
G.E. is a master!
G.E is apart of the inspirations to start me playing guitar like a number of other's. Talent and enthusiasm:-)
Same thing with me. G E makes it sound so good and look so cool. Would love to have a beer with him, and I don't even drink... G E ,if you're ever near muscle shoals, hit me up lol.

Clapton doesn't have crap on G.E. Smith! This guy's incredible!
Great player... always perfect timing.
GE’s the best. He so deserves to be more known and appreciated. A true gem. Cool stuff
He is a treasure ❤️

"not perfect...." Jeebus o mighty. Please keep doing this.
Just seen you in the Hall & Oates Liberty 85 concert! What a legend - thank you
G.E is the best to explain a tune!! Nice to see you. Peace from Montreal Canada.
Incredible playing
G.E. Thank you.
When I was a teenager, my band covered the Last Time. I've played the riff wrong for the last 30 years. :)
That's NORMAL for a lot of songs of that era! We all have songs we learnt/played wrong!
GE Smith is certainly the coolest guitar player there is.
No fooling! Clapton and the other so called "Greats" have nothing on G.E.
Thanks GE, taking the edge off of life!
More GE Smith stories and playing!! Pay the man!
I wish he had stayed on as Band Director for SNL..I LOVED hearing him play in and out of the commercial breaks
He got fired from there, I doubt he would still be ther now, if he did not get fired.

I love Keith's chords and fills solo on the Sullivan show. And that riff set the hook on a lot of us in '65..

ICONIC
You know that’s right... G? No G. E. Brings good songs to life!

Him jamming with T Bone Wolk was my favorite part of SNL back in the day
I agree.
TBone who?

Yes he is, him and LeRoy Bell are promoting their new album.
Hey G.E.! Great lesson. Love you man! Tell us a little about that sweet Tele someday soon.
G.E. is such a genius.
Legend.
I've been playing that Stones lick wrong for 50 years...damn!
hi G.E. , you're great!
G.E. Smith;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;What a guitarist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love g.e. smith thanks for that!
We need more G E Smith posts !!!
G.E is a freaking Telemaster.
Absolute prince!
G.E Smith so cool
I'd watch GE play a broom
HAHA!
It is amazing how the simplest things make the hair on your neck stand up.
I knew ge back in new haven..always cool guy ...pre Saturday night live... always had the good telecasters...lol
I could deal with a whole GE series like this, for sure.

‘Scuse my French, but goddamn that sounds awesome GE! Thanks for the history lesson too!

That is so mike Bloomfield my college roommate was so into the blues I learned the the blues music from him
I was 17 when
Butterfield came out, love it to this day. The American equivalent to the Beano album.
ah You got that backwards Beano album almost equivalent to Butterfield album that came out way before the Mayall album

His album with Buddy Guy is great - highly recommended
That’s his signature Tele on the Stones song !
I've been a huge fan since the SNL days. We'd yell at everyone to shut up so we could hear GE's sweet, clean licks!

I find it so easy to idolise G.E. Smith. Such a legend.
I don’t I never idolise anyone or anything, everyone is equal he just plays his guitar a little better than some!..
good stuff bloomfield definitely had it going on
So many people play last time riff wrong. Goes without questiin that g. E smith would have it spot on
Hes one of the real cats

If there is a G.E. Smith clip, I watch. Still looking for the video where he demonstrates his intro to "Like A Rolling Stone".
How is his guitar setup for slide & rhythm? What should your string height be so your not hitting the frets?
Graduate seminar. Thx.
Anybody know what amp G.E. is playing through in the first section?
I love the thing of using a $3K mic and not micing your amp
Any one who can play with Bob Dylan and Roger Waters ( I saw him with both ) is OK by me . G E you the man .
I've read more than once that Brian Jones taught Keith Richards alot of guitar leads
Lou Car He taught Keith some bottleneck stuff. Keith played pretty much all of the lead and solos in those early days- mostly Chuck Berry style stuff
G.E.: .009’s in 1965? Doubt it. Ernie Ball’s didn’t come along 1966..
