- www.studioflamenco.it - Flamenco show in teatro Olimpico in Rome. The tipical alegrias here performend with traditional "mantones". Unfortunately, this video has technical problems, so the audio is not in sync with the movements. The music is "Gades" by Manolo Carrasco. Flamenco dance school "Andalucia" by Isabel and Raffaella Fernandez Carrillo give lessons in Rome, via Palombini 23. www.studioflamenco.it
i was completely engaged by thegrace and beauty of the dance and music plaudits andalucia from australia
One of the few things I miss about not living in the UK anymore is I used to go to Spain once or twice a year just to get on the piss and watch flamenco.
I bloody love it.
Loved this video- miss Antonio and Christina - they were the best!
dance! the most elegant expression of the human form & rhythms of life ... but the most difficult to interpret in film, in still images or in words ... this video is as masterful in shooting & production as is the choreography and dance
Allí vestidos son tan hermosos. Deseo que pueda bailar eso bien y adoré la guitarra y el sonido que sus zapatos hicieron. La música es gran también y adoro cómo el ritmo consiguió rápidamente.
olé! Beautiful, Modern rhythm and good dancing. I loved the fluidity with which they flung the mantones. Bochinchosa.
Great dance! You can definitely hear the Moorish influence in the music at the beginning (i.e. the drums that are usually used in belly dancing).
I lived in Spain (Rota Naval Base and El Puerto de Santa Maria) from 1976-1979, and it was the best 3 years of my childhood. Three of my favorite things came out of my time there: Favorite dance (Flamenco), city (Seville) and historical feature (Roman ruins of Italica, in the town of Santipoince, 9kms north of Seville).
!Y viva Espana!
Amazing dancers! And I for one like the dynamic camera treatment. It's much better than just one static camera halfway back in the audience.
Mashallah well anything from Andalucia is magical ... indeed Algegrias :)
-Algeria
seems like such a relaxing art of dance.

Viva tu Manolo Carrasco
The style and grace and common sense of the Spanish women removes once and for all the Burkhas =. Rekieves itself once and for all of the Moorish influence and rises in pride and beauty.
Flamenco is everything but relaxing! ;)
For those who want to see some "real traditional" Alegrias, there are some here on youtube. For example, if you search for "Eva La Yerbabuena Flamenco por Alegrias".
lovely
Superb -
Molto bello, ma che cosa! Mille grazie,
Saluti da Chile
esto es musica
how super siphisticated!!!
Me encanta!:D
It closely resembles Kathak dance. Intricate arm & hand movements, positions of the torso & head but especially in the footwork because the dance also serves as a percussion. There is very little movement of the pelvis & virtually no isolated pelvic movements which are the hallmarks of Arab dance. Arab dance also features very little footwork which is one of the main features of both Kathak & Flamenco. Indians settled in Spain as well & the court of the Caliph also imported Indian dancers.
oh indahnya tarian ini..
It is true that many of the beautiful Flamenco Dancers are unable to do the fancy flamenco footwork!
Close. It's derived from Indian dance. It's more obvious in more traditional choreography than in this; you can see the connection.
yes soooooooo beautiful! just.... they look pretty mean.
bouse sebalo amigo soy bailaora flamenco y de boatos y esta misma cancion tambien la bailamos y tenemos
es bonita!
@ForeroFlower I'm also the daughter of Spaniards. The Basques, Celts, Romans & Jews were all in Spain long before the Arabs/Berbers & most remained there long after the Arabs left. The Arabs did influence Spain but their influence is over-emphasized, there are many other cultures which influenced Spain.. Gypsies are from N. India. Dancers of both flamenco & Kathak will tell you that the styles are similar & even share many of the same positions.
Such a beautiful performance. The lighting is so distracting though. the way its taped doesn help either.
I love my city Algeria
@murggik The Basques, Celts, Latins, Jews & Visigoths were in Spain long before the Syrians or the Berbers. Arabs remained a minority. Flamenco is a dance invented by the gypsies who immigrated from N. India & it most resembles Kathak dance with some Persian influence. Arabic dance consists mainly of isolated pelvic movements with very little in the way of intricate footwork or hand & arm movements. Flamenco is the exact opposite with the emphasis on intricate hand, arm movements & footwork
MUSICA DE MANOLO CARRASCO
I love flamenco dance!
Anyone want to learn Japanese or Chinese?
adoro
@jlgg26 ESTA MÚSICA ES DE MANOLO CARRASCO PIANISTAS COMPOSITOR DIRECTOR MUSICAL
Antonio Gades is the name of the choreographer.
@mmedefarge If you watch traditional Sevillan flamenco it goes back from the time when the Arabs/Muslims ruled in Spain. They left 800 years of history. It's prevalent in the name of towns. In the physical features of the people. Look at the history of castinets and where it came from. The Gypies had great influence as well. Some words in Arabic are found in Spanish. I should know I am a daughter of Spainiards
It's great and looks a bit like oriental dancing.
@ForeroFlower Finger cymbals are also used in Kathak dance. Kathak dance is an ancient dance form in India that predated the Arab conquest by many centuries. Perhaps they borrowed it from the N. Indians? Arabs seem to like to claim to be the origin of many things of which they are not. Give credit where credit is due.
Bonjour Monsieur~~~~~
@Periconca Mejor me lo pones! jejej Mi critica es sobre el baile, sin mas! Puedes entenderlo!:)
@ForeroFlower Where is the belly dancing in flamenco? I see nothing of it. Isolated pelvic movements, the hallmark of belly dancing, in flamenco are as rare as intricate footwork is in belly dancing. The two are poles apart.
SUP HISWAY
Zach...
que es la musica de 4 minutes y 44 secundos?
what is the music at 4 mins ant 44 seconds?
it sounds deep!
@ForeroFlower People of the Mediterranean often share the same skin tones & features as do the Arabs, not because of the "Arabs" but because of a shared environment. The music of India also has a similar sound to Arabic music, the minor scale, that "wail" sound found in most eastern music. The Arabs influenced many things in Spain but flamenco was not one of them. They are also outnumbered by the many other ethnicities which were & still are present in Spain. Give credit where credit is due.
Tambien me gustaria saber el nombre de la musica
the background music sounds like something yanni would write.
pretty neat.
good music what's the name of it?
@ForeroFlower Yeah, I know what "infusion" means. "Gypsy-style" dancing incorporates many styles, Romanian Gypsy dancing, Russian Gypsy dancing does not resemble flamenco. The hand & arm movement of flamenco share more in common with Kathak dancing which incorporates much more intricate hand & arm movements than does belly dancing, not to mention all that intricate "stomping-type" footwork, absent in belly dance. Spain is in Europe, my friend. I watch flamenco danced by Spaniards.
Muy bien. Excelente y hermosa. Vea nuestro video de música "bailarina española" por Ricardo Griego. Espero que usted lo quiera tambien. Baile siempre.
esto no es danza oriental esto es flamenco
Why post your personal views on this site. This is flamenco.
great flamenco! i reomend to you- SPANISH GUITAR- by JESUS FERNANDEZ
alguien sabe como se llama la cancion?
@ForeroFlower My parents were Spanish, I'm American. I've given examples & cited history not vague generalizations, as do you.
Por que ?
What is the with the Las Vegas style show?? LOL
Where is the passion? The zest? Or as matter of fact the "alegrias"???? Those who are so mesmerized by this performance obviously have not seen flamenco yet!
@ForeroFlower Yes, the Gypsies came from N. India, while the Arabs were in Spain & they bought their ancient Kathak dance with them. I never said that they had anything to do with the N. or with Basques. The Indians bought their own unique culture & dance with them, so don't deny that they had any influence, because they did. I enjoy watching flamenco as well as Kathak dance; no one is trying to "steal"anything from you. My mom was light my father dark with black hair, so what? Do get a grip
Bellisimo, lo unico que es muy escuro.
it looks like indian kathak dance, mm is it a copy?
@ForeroFlower the Moors who are Arab/Berbers from Morocco influenced Spain greatly. Unfortunately prejudice people do not want to give credit where credit is due. They bought a civilization that Europe was not accustom to and the Spanish Inquisition was a result of that racism in 1492 till this day
Because of the video compression the audio is some second later on the video, so the coreography seems out-of-time. I'm sorry, soon I'll replace these video with some of better solution!
Where do you live now?
Ah, flamenco. A gypsie origin. You notice the shawl, the the dance moves...it all has middle east origins.
Esto no es Flamenco. Es una nueva adaptacion de la danza tradicional. Igual que arte moderna no se parece a el arte original.... nada que ver...no hay comparacion.
@mmedefarge do you know what the word infusion mean? I just said in the comment before that flamenco is not....NOT like belly dancing. It's infusion of both meaning you're gonna find extracts of both styles...similarities of both belly-dancing and gypsie dancing in flamenco. You're looking for exact bellydancing and that's not what i said or what it is. The arm and handmovements of bellydancing, the castinets are similar to the timbals the arabs use. Have you been watching Europeanized Flamenco?
A causa della compressione del filmato l'audio è in ritardo di qualche secondo sul video, facendo sembrare che la coreografia sia fuori tempo. Sostituirò a breve con video di migliore qualità!
The dance is beautiful but I hate the way it was shot! Way too distracting!
@lilylessons I'm tryna learn japanese and korean
I don't have any scientific proof that it is beyond all shadow of a doubt derived from Kathak dance but neither do the people who assure us that it is a dance derived from Arab dances which it does not even resemble. Indians arrived in Spain in two waves, the original people from whom Indo-Europeans are derived & a later migration fleeing Muslim incursions in their own land. (The Caliphate of the Umayyads in Spain was unlike any other in their tolerance of other people.)
the flamenco isn't origin of gypsie. i am spanish. the gypsie come to spain s. XV, they take this culture and they do better. the flamenco is mediterranean culture for this it seem middle east. i'm sorry my english
Shut up with the political discussions! Just watch the beautiful women dance to the beautiful music. Geez . There is a place and a time for that and this isn't one of them!
The special effects and lighting are kind of distracting. Flamenco dance should be all about the dancer, not smoke and mirrors. I think without the special effects I would have enjoyed the dancers more. -I hope that doesn't offend anyone, it was just my opinion.
hmmm naughty.
@mmedefarge Flamenco is not like belly-dancing...It's an infusion of belly-dancing with gypsie style
I agree, but I don't think that's a good thing.... No offense to Yanni
@mmedefarge You speak basque, galician or what? since you're from the north you know its different in the south. Our customs are more mid-eastern yours is more european... You can't generalize for everyone coming from the North. The northerns are well known for their racsim. We're Sevillian. You're in your world respect mine.
