Looks like a smallish soft plastic jerk bait. Ive used many brands of these to catch fresh n salt water fish. The hook set up seems different tho. Dont know what the advantage of moving the hook completely outside the bait would be. Rather than how soft plastics are typically rigged with the hook in the bait . Seems like they do work fairly well tho.
They do swim absolutely amazingly erratic. It's almost hard to make it do the same thing twice from long lost memories. The hook is definitely weighted probably has something to do with the buoyancy of the bait and the weight out front.
The Retro Bassin channel did a series on the Banjo Minnow. If I remember correctly, the man who was the on screen salesman for the lure ended up buying the company and brought everything back to the original formula and shapes, which he thought was the better setup.
Yes! That's me. I did buy the company because I believe in it so much. The inventor Wayne Hockmeyer was a dear friend of mine and learned everything from him. We made upgrades in plastics, leaner design for more lifelike action. Thanks for the mention! Good luck!
@@kenkerry9206wow so cool Ken! I’m a retired Navy guy out here in Washington state, who is excited to try your product on the Smallmouth bite in a nice lake out here! Just waiting to save up a few penny’s……that newest version of the Banjo Minnow looks simply fantastic! Dad and I fished the original since it was first released, and always had it on the boat! Brought in a lot of quality fish…. Wishing you the continued success in this honorable endeavor with the lure! Tight lines and God bless! Bill Washington State, USN Retired.
Haha, my Dad wouldn't let me buy it, said it was a gimmick...I showed him. Had my wife get it for me as a present. You'll be ready for Retro Bass'n, should be a good show. This week? Also, after watching a Tactical Bass'n vid some time ago, I often use a screw lock with Octopus hook on regular Flukes, not many new ideas I guess...also makes switching baits and 2-3 rods more versatile. Hell, you can nose hook anything with nipples, Focker!
I still have the minnows from the original banjo minnow set, as well as a couple frogs, I've lost the hooks and screws over the years but I'm glad to see people still using them
I’ve been killing it with banjo frogs and their bait hooks for 30 years. I love the nose hook and weedless system. It’s hard to find frogs that sink. You can work them like a crawdad
I begged for these for my 10th birthday in 95, that summer I caught more large and small mouth than i have any year since. I'm gonna order a kit and try again. Totally forgot about these.
Bango looks like a solid, perhaps one of the originals, soft jerk bait presentation! Watching the helicopter next, never heard of that one. Thanks for the video
I found the 006 version in my dads ole fishing box, makes me laugh every time i see them. They have the plastic eye ball inserts in multiple colors. The weed bands were a pain! May have to give them things another try. Brings back the memories though, thanks for the video!
If this house wasn't a rental, I'd be DIYing a kayak hoist like yours.. That contraption looks solid! Also, Banjo minnows for the win! I remember bothering Mom for a while before she finally agreed to buy me some TV lures
I found a box with a ton of these I bought in the 90s... So excited to try them since I never had the oportunity. Is the weight on those hooks enough, or do you put more weight n the line?
I have a knock off version kit in my stash in the garage. I think of them are in my swimbait tackle case. I know i don't have those hooks with the spiral. I remember rubber bands , they are a pain
I remember watching this infomercial and being sucked in as a kid. I wanted it so bad but it was so expensive! FINALLY I got the cash to buy the kit and I never caught any fish on them 😂
Lmao I still have two fresh banjo minnow kits and a helicopter lure kit. The helicopter and banjo frogs do slay some bass, and I occasionally throw the small minnows on swim bait jigs for walleye.
@wendellfishing I´m from the Dominican Republica and I´m thrill with the banjo minnow lure. Where can I buy it online? or can you tell me of any other lure maybe similar to the banjo that I can use to catch bass down here
@@wendellfishing I caught a few from the banks in the biking distance small ponds. Sadly, I was a very directionless angler as a kid. I watched some of the old fishing TV (as gone fishing with BIll Dance plays in my head), but looking back, I was truly clueless haha. If only we had UA-cam in the 90s.
I have had a box full of these sitting in my Tackle room for decades. All they do is collect dust! My zoom fluke can outfish any banjo, minnow any day of the week! Sheer garbage.

Cool to see. One of the creators of the banjo minnow is from the same small town as me and he's still selling new lures.
That's awesome
The small size like you have work great on a micro chatterbait
I remember that bait, nice work!!!
Im curious to see how the helicopter would fish on a surface retrieve.
Could be similar to a buzz bait, toad bait, or prop bait.
I had a couple hit it like that.. makes a nice commotion

When I had mine the body had slits through out and a hook would’ve got rid of some the finesse

Bango Minnow is ok the super fluke is much better and the helicopter compare to the buzz baits no comparison
The original banjo minnow is the best lure if ever used for bass hands down
Right on!

Cought lots of bass in the 90s on the Bango Minnow
Heck Yeah!
I bought these in the 90s when I was a kid after watching the infomercial. It worked awesome. Miss these things
I had the banjo minnow back in the day and caught a ton of bass on them. I never caught a huge bass with them, but plenty of bass up to 5 pounds.
Love it

Banjo Minnow is never overhype, it is the hype! It revolutionized the fishing industry.
:)
These things slayed on the GMR in the late 90’s.

Ha! Glad I could bring some nostalgia!
I was a child but I remember this bait, the father of some friends had (Brazil), very cool!
Thanks for showing this bait in action. I've never used it, but it looks like it'd be a great go-to bait when nothing else produces fish.
You bet
The banjo minnow relives 😄. And it works too. Great vid 🙌.

@@wendellfishing I was fishing irrigation ponds that I had access to as a teen. Not much fishing pressure in those, so I would absolutely slay!

I didn't have no issue with the weighted hooks.. but I was fishing them shallow
@@wendellfishing Ty, will be trying them soon along with the frogs :)
I have a whole set of the older jointed ones and bigger solid bodys for big fish! Gonna have to see if the wipers round here will hit em

random question from new fisherman. What type of knot did you use on these hooks? Clinch Knot?
Palamar
Do a vid on the Flying Lure
It works really well 😊
Yes it does!
1 of the biggest bass I ever caught was on the banjo minnow😊
Love it
That 3rd fish pulled hard for a little dink.
For sure
Sammiches 😂
Too bad you don't fish with that fluorescent because back in my day they used to tear them up
Oh I still have them..
BANJO IS THE BEST!!! I've caught my biggest and the most amount of fish. BAR NONE!
The best!
I was a sucker and spent $29.95 on these..... I was the ONLY thing caught on them

Not meant for kids because they stole their design from swedish fish🤣🤣
lol
This prevented me from learning how to properly bass fish for years. Goddam garbage
