Sam Yahel (Keyboard player) plays terrific bass! - he's totally locked with drummer Jeff Ballard, and his bass lines are creative and completely rhythmically independent from his soloing.
Was wondering who's killing that kicking bass lines gees, Sam Yahel one in time muzo. He nits together well with this band and of cause Joshua Redman and his hip fusion style chops puts everything on an entire new level. Well done boys, respect.
I'm proud to say I was at this show. Fantastic performances by Redman and other artists, including Wynton Marsalis, Bill Frisell, Brubeck, Patricia Barber and Chick Corea.
So glad the entire performance was posted. I saw the last song, Sweet and Nasty, on a PBS program back several years ago. I recorded it on my DVR and watched it over and over for a long time wondering what the rest of the performance must have been like. UA-cam is such an awesome tool for exposure of killer music. Thanks for posting!!!!
Great music!!! I wish this music would get more airplay in the hood. Listening to this music would get a lot of that crazy shit out of these folks' head
Such a shame that this band didn't last... Both "Elastic" and "Momentum" were monster albums and this shows how good they were live. I like Redman's other stuff but this was just better to me... maybe the Elastic band will come back to us, I sure hope so. Anyway, great concert !
CovertKeller nice to hear this,,, i did not know that this did not exist anymore... it'has a nice and funky groove! and this style belongs entirely to Joshua Redman
+CovertKeller This is the grooviest and funkiest Josh's work by far, and maybe his most original contribution to the Jazz legacy. Hope he returns to that someday...
Dude I respect your opinion but what did you wrote????? Go check out Chick Corea album past and present feat Jeff Ballard . Jeff Ballard is extremely versatile.
This is one of my favorite live recordings ever, I've been listening to it for years. Does anyone know more stuff in this same vein? Redman's other stuff sounds very different I find.
You are right Franc, something similar but not exactly "the same" is quartet of one handed hungarian trumpetist Barabas Lorinc. Check their live studio set ua-cam.com/video/2yZ_Ohi88Eo/v-deo.html, keyboardist is nothing short of genius, althrough not on the same level as Sam Yahel (Sam plays bass with one hand on Korg MS2000 i think and Lorinc has a great bass player in his band).
the SOP is Buescher True Tone Serive III...I grew up with JOSH in Berkeley (w/ Dave Ellis/Charlie Hunter...we were all Public School Kids) and know some of his repair guys...high guestimateas I play with the series IV....Josh is a great humble soul...reflection of the "old Bay Area" before the hypsters and NERDS! WHo Moved My Cheesse...lol
this band is strange. Watch the drummer. It does not feel smooth and routine. But it' s great to hear someone with a unique style. It seems a bit they all met in at the bar "welcome to weird land" but take nothing away from their skills!!!!!!!!!!!! All the time you are searing for a bakk player on stage...but this keyboard player is something else. I once knew a local boy in Germany - originally from London - Mr Wright from the Wright Thing he was also known for some incredible skills with his left hand on keys...drove bass players up th wall!

+ghairraigh Holy shit I was wondering where the bass player went! Absolutely astonishing...
Exactly right. Lifelong keyboardist here. This shit is insane.
@@JanM351531351 I think he is using some kind of Moog for that authentic bass sound...but his playing is absolutely insane, like he has two brains :)

In my opinión, this is the Best redman, and with Brian blade also funkying, the combo goes to another level (and I like ballard too, but blade...)
+fardal yeah, Blade also fits well. Love them both !
This concert is great! But the best cooperation of Redman for me still is Redman + Mehldau (for now, I haven't explored his entire discography yet).
Jeff Ballard!!!!!!!!!!
What a great and versatile drummer!!!!!
최고다 ㄱ멋있음
The third track is called "Child Watching". It is on Sam Yahel's album Truth and Beauty
Elastic Band Joshua Redman, nice like forever. Realy appreciate the solo guitar, on "The Long Way Home" (14 min). Delicious !

didn't realize it's 9 years ago
Proper Music is timeless!
Wonderful bass sound on keys...i wonder what kind of synth Sam uses for the bass sound...
Anyone know what keyboard/patch he is using for the bass?
🔝
Looks like a vintage Selmer balanced action he is playing. Very old school. Could be wrong...

@@timothymayo7522 I guess you're lucky. Berkeley has become a little piece of hell in recent years.
