I just ordered it.As regards 8cr is not a cheap meaning bad steel.I used it hard in a Spyderco. It doesn't chip or rust and sharpens easily. Not less than 20 degrees per side!! I'm hoping not to be dissapointed!
The SR can handle 195 lbs more than the SR1 LIght. Why? The differences are in the blade and handle materials. These factors do not affect the strength of the lock, do they? Thank you very much in advance for taking the time to answer my question.
8crr is very strong stuff. I would put my money on it against most mass produced D2. Plus with the thickness of this blade psh this thing ain't breaking.
I just received my SR1 Lite Tanto yesterday. It is my first real knife. I've always had crappy "gas station" knives. It seems sturdy and very sharp, but the lock is way-way too stiff for me. I mean I'm an office worker so I don't have rough hands but I'm certainly not weak either, and I have to press so hard on the tab it leaves marks and cuts on my finger. Sometimes I have to press it with the hard, bony finger joints because the soft fingertip just bends around the locking tab and cannot push it far enough to disengage it. It hurts. Same thing with the opening It is stiff enough to almost not be able to open it with my thumb, I certainly cannot flick it open. Also I keep my knife in my front left pocket with the spine of the knife facing forward, and anytime I reach in my pocket to get my keys out or something the spine cuts my hand like paper. Very annoying things. My question is, are these normal things, and ease up with time and normal everyday use (not planning to open cars with it) or did I get a defective one?
Open and close it many times while watching TV in the evenings every night for a week!!! It'll smooth out!!! Then hit the gym regularly, and not only will your hand get stronger, the iron will toughen them up.
Another way to weaken that lock bar to make it easier to open is taking it apart and just slightly bending the little tension rod that sits against the lock might take a little tweaking to get it how you want but its a good trick because it works both ways if the lock gets to loose in the future, you can bend it the other way slightly.
Mine is perfect as it can get. The spine and lock bar are very squared off and sharp. I just filed my edges down. I added a few drops of good oil, I can thumb flick it, thumb roll it, reverse flick it and gravity flick it. Mine is very smooth. The lock is easy to disengage too. It helps if your finger is lower on the lock, closer to the end of the handle.
This has the thickest blade, spine, and lockbar alongside 5 Max and Rajah 2 on Tri-Ad lock knives. Compared to those two mentioned, this is way cheaper, absolutely amazing.
I still love Cold Steel, BUT 8Cr13MoV steel is an absolute deal breaker for me. It doesn't matter if that lock is indestructable and weighs less than a feather. With that blade steel, it's a hard NO.

No i like buck knives own few of those. But Kershaw is my edc. A link lol. I own probably two hundred knives. Swiss gerber buck kershaw zt down under knives that down under walk about bowie is almost the most expensive knife i own. My i got a few ZT that were just over three hundred. But cold steel i have owned several the SRK. I had the blade rolled on me shaving willow sticks on a camping trip with all the kids. A willow stick lol. I threw it in the river. And as my the inheritance. Lol my kids n grand kids. Will all have much more money than you and your whole family included. In just their savings account much less checking. Yes im very well off but i don't buy those super expensive knives. ZT is my most expensive. But they are very good.
