Year of the Hedgehog - Go Wild

- It’s springtime, the air is tepid, the skylarks chirp, and spring flowers cover the meadows and the forest grounds. Out of a pile of leaves a fluttery, sniffling snout tip appears: it’s a hedgehog awakening from its winter sleep heading into the light of a new year, having only two things in mind: food and finding a partner. This documentary accompanies for a year one of the most popular yet still unknown animals of our landscape. The hedgehog is not only part of the oldest mammal species on our planet, newest findings disclose that it will stay among us for many years to come. Neither the massive destruction of natural habitats nor the horrendous road kill can seriously endanger its population. Award-winning wildlife filmmaker Kurt Mündl will present never before seen details and behavioural patterns of the spiky fellow. With special camera techniques he is in pursuit of the most interesting questions. What does a hedgehog really eat and drink? What do their newborns look like and do they have quills? Is a hedgehog immune against snakevenom and why has it been a symbol of luck over the last centuries?

This is like watching my childhood storybooks come to life!
I just picked a beautiful little lady away from the main road today and put her in a safer location nearby with some food. I didn't want to move her too far incase I moved her too far from her babies. A beautiful moment. She was very hungry and chomped away. I hope she stays safe.
Good for you!
Hedgehogs look so happy all the time they don’t care just vibing and having good time 😂❤️
Amazing creatures. One of our favorite animal. Very nice documentary. Cool
Very well put together documentary, but it's a little out of date now. Hedgehogs are extremely endangered now in the UK, and they aren't very adaptable to human development. Hedgehogs should not be out in daylight, so if you see one, you should contact a wildlife sanctuary immediately while keeping an eye on it
They taste great too🤠
A surprisingly wonderful production featuring this most endearing creature. The music is exceptional. Bravo.💐
Sonic: "Why do I feel like somebody is talking trash about the graphics!"
Love these little animals, turning my garden into a haven for all wildlife but especially for hedgehogs. For the first time last summer a female gave birth to 4 hoglets in one of the hedgehog houses.
People behind the wheel need to slow end hell down, I don't know how anyone could hit it run over these precious little creatures, I'm always on the lookout for animals in the road when driving.
Despite what this video suggests though we should never try & treat hedgehogs ourselves, they are very complex animals health wise & no pet sprays for ticks or fleas should EVER be used, not to mention a high tick burden is often an indicator of other health issues, if you have concerns contact you nearest hedgehog rescue & wildlife rescue centre for advice.

I've saved a hedgehog who'd been run over his face was flat but he was still alive🥺 I let him go when he could eat. The last meal I gave him was apples chopped up❤️
That is the most hilarious story I ever heard.
😅😅😅😅
🤣🤣
Did his nose pop back out
@@justinparkerthewildwolf6394 no it was flattened but he could breathe and when he left he was happy to be on his way🥰 my boys couldn't believe he or she was healthy enough to leave💕
I enjoyed the documentary. I was recently give one as a pet. This helps me make a more natural living environment for him . And to understand his attitude and needs. Thank you providing a thorough and informative short film.
What most people don't know, is that there are no hedgehogs in captivity.
Instead, we are all held captive, by the hedgehogs...
Ha there you go again lol!
We dont have hedgehogs in Aus, the nearest things to them are echindnas, their spines can puncture tyres! Apparently they are quite tasty according to the aboriginals, a bit like chicken.
Intersting name vanillatech! Cheers.
@@ezlow1065 Forgive me, I have no jokes about echindnas. Have a great evening! From England.
@@TheVanillatech Lol! no probs! Cheers
The most lethal scorpion is in Arizona.
This is, hands down, the most beautiful documentary I have ever watched... I love the hedgehog... thank you for this brilliant work

Reupload? I've seen it before, but watching it again, because hedgehogs are awesome. and it's A well put together docu.
24:17 In my opinion, here is the best part of video. I have 2 hedgehogs(Mom & Dad). They also had babied. Mom loved babies a lot. Thank for sharing good video.
This is wonderful great to watch. I wish Go Wild would do a documentary about wild Hamsters!
They did! it's called Poppy's Promise and it features other animals too :)
Remember if you see underweight hedgehogs, you can rescue them, give them a box with straw, cat food and water and they are happy and you can take them to hedgehog rescues too and they save them for free!
Omfg so cute 🥹 I want a pet hedgehog, skunk and raccoon now 🦝
I was thinking people should put a light on outside, away from pets to attract all the flying insects.
@@ArtyMars I had an African Pygmy hedgehog when I was younger… rescued from an animal hoarder who had unalived himself. She was the cutest thing, and my dog and her became best friends and would cuddle together. We’d also take her camping with us. You have to socialize them young though, and handle them lots… or else they’ll never really open up to you, as they’re very skittish.
0:13 Such as running at the speed of sound…
I'm surprised no one has made any Sonic references!
Every year is the year of the hedgehog, as far as I'm concerned. 💖
What a treasure! Such a great channel.
Beautifully done, thank you.🖤🇨🇦
I love hedgehogs. I have 5 or 6 regular visitors that i feed in my garden, i also noticed a mother that had a litter of 3(actually noticed 4 the other night)hoglets in one of our hedgehog homes
one of the best productions i have seen in years superb, we all love spike x
Wonderul documentary. Thank you for sharing it.
Lovely video and very informative. Thank you.
Such a sweet documentary thoroughly enjoyed thanks 😍
The babies look like 🐛 with thorns! Adorable! 💕
Of all the animal documentaries i watch this is well done, hedgehogs have to be the cutiest little guys 👌👍
A wonderful and informative video Thank you
Very good documentary, love 🦔
Hedgehogs are so wholesomeilly adorable they look so cute in real life I had no idea that when participating in courtship with the female they don't help rise the young instead they immediately start looking for more food to fest on not sure why but I find that rather intriguing
Pupici muulti și dulci ❤️❤️❤️
Woah great documentary film. Good work
Fantastic documentary about our little prickled pals.
Very adapted. Life is very nice!
Okay that was really good! I had to sub! :D

Nice nature 🌟🌞
Watching this, missing the little whimsical creatures as it's getting cold and they are heading for their hideaways for the winter.
Quaint wee creatures. i love them.
I've always loved hedgehogs. Not much meat on them, but with a side of chips and a bit of salad, they are just enough.
@@TheVanillatech Love your sense of humour lol.
@@ezlow1065 Thanks! I knew you would see through my joke.

In what country was this filmed? Simply beautiful! LOVE THIS FILM! Wonderful narrator! ❤️❤️❤️
Seems to have been filmed in several different countries where hedgehogs exist.
👍♥️✌️
Good effort
Scorpions aren’t poisonous, they’re venomous.
What is the differens?
Okay
Same dif.
Poisonous means if you bite it, you “die”, venomous means if it bites you, you “die”… that’s all

ahhh there are amanitas! gimme
I found a hedgehog wandering in my tiny middle of a town garden at the weekend. He was out in the daylight so was worried but gave him some wet cat food which he totally polished off.
Im hoping it was the correct thing to do? I managed to film him ( its the only upload i have made on you tube) Such a noisy eater!
No - out in the day=not ok. Needs seeing by a rescue. Next time, video and contact local hedgehog rescues.
😍😍😍

Sonic:I haven't eaten in days is that a scorpion MMMMMMMMMM "sonic proceeds to eat a scorpion"mm that was better then eggmans diet
there are a few things wrong with the hibernation claims in this documentary. torpor and hibernation are not the same. deserts do get cold due to lack of humidity. hedgehogs don't only go into torpor during cold, but high heat as well.

Amazing they cand find their dens withed youngers ined them but at late fall cand not find them and may be will get freezed.
Real life Sonic the Hedgehog
Great stuff, thank you, but I think hedgehogs are considered to be omnivores, not insectivores.
I need to weigh at least 500 grams before I can sleep, too!

He's said the morther won't see her babies again, but what would happen if they did bump into one another again when one of the babies has matured into a adult male, would they breed or would she know that's one of her babies?
Ooh, real life Sonic Underground lore!
not likely, they recognize the others by smell. If they have been separated for long, they won’t remember the smell.

Do they eat mushrooms. They should
They do. So that means Sonic can get the 1-Up and Super Mushrooms.
🇩🇰🇹🇹I really enjoyed learning all those good facts about the hedgehog🦔, made me love the little poor bastards more🤣👌. I can see many of them living on my farm ranch. They’re very welcome🤗. So, after the male hedgehog 🦔 banged the female he goes his separate ways, but I still love the poor little bastard👏👌🤣.
