  • Llanthony Priory Walk with Frank.
Here Frank takes the Stagecoach in South Wales 23 from Hereford. This bus passes Pontrilas in Herefordshire which where the Yeomans Canyon Bus connects to Ewyas Harold and Abbeydore. Passing under the Welsh Marches Line and over the River Monnow the Bus crosses into Monmouthshire. The Bus passes Pandy and Skirrid Fawr Mountain is in view. Frank alights from the Bus at the Skirrid Inn in Llanfihangel Crucorney. Fetching provisions Frank soon leaves St Michael's Church in view going under the Welsh Marches Line. St Michael's Church is in the Diocese of Monmouth in the Church in Wales.
Frank wends his way up the valley of the River Honddu passing Cwmyoy and up to Llanthony Priory. Cwmyoy St Martin's Church is seen on the Monmouthshire side of the Hatterall Ridge. Hatterrall Hill (Welsh: Mynydd Y Gader). The Hatterall Ridge ends abruptly at the sheer cliff called Darren below, which is a considerable landslide area extending south to the hamlet of Cwmyoy with its crooked church. St Martin's Church is in the Church in Wales Diocese of Monmouth. The Hatterrall Ridge (sometimes spelled Hatterall) is a ridge in the Black Mountains forming the border between Powys and Monmouthshire in Wales and Herefordshire in England. It covers the Vale of Ewyas and the Olchon Valley.
There is a large and prominent landslip on the eastern side of the mountain here, known as Black Darren, where a large slice of the rocks has fallen away from the main mass of the hill.
Llanthony Priory was founded by the Black Monks which is the Order of St Augustine. Llanthony Priory (Welsh: Priordy Llanddewi Nant Hodni) is a partly ruined former Augustinian priory in the secluded Vale of Ewyas, a steep-sided once-glaciated valley within the Black Mountains area of the Bannau Brycheiniog/Brecon Beacons National Park. Llanthony Priory is managed by Cadw.
The Llanthony Secunda Priory is in Gloucester. In 1135, after persistent attacks from the local Welsh population, the monks retreated to Gloucester where they founded a secondary cell Llanthony Secunda.
St David's Church was originally converted from the Infirmary. St David's Church is the Church in Wales Diocese of Monmouth.

@@frankadam4539 A pleasure Frank - yes we live in a great area to explore. The buses are good and if trains were in the mix it would be even better. Take care.
