Center diff locks are only for AWD vehicles (Toyota calls it full-time 4WD), it splits the power between the front and rear axles (IE. does the same thing as a transfer case in a part-time 4WD vehicle). A rear diff lock on the other hand, ensures that power reaches both sides of the rear axle. Neither is really better than the other, because they do different jobs.

whats the difference between having a mid diff lock like in Land Cruiser and a rear diff lock in these and why Toyota do this difference ?
