CAN FLEX SEAL STOP an OIL LEAK on a Rusty Rear Axle???

  • We took in a Grandpa fresh Toyota Tacoma as a trade-in. The rear differential was so rusted out that it was leaking. Literally oozing out of the axle housing. I drained the oil, cleaned up the diff, knocked off as much rust as I could and sprayed it with brake clean. Then generously applied Flex Seal. Did it work? #TACOMA #flexseal #fixedisfixed #rusty #oilleak

    Man that thing is rusty. I live in Detroit so I'm super familiar with massive rust :( Glad you got it sealed up. Just don't bump that center section on anything lol

    Fix lasted a couple of months. Enough time to get through winter, so now I can weld on a new rear cover.

    Thanks. I think I'll try it on my 01 Tundra. My rear axle isn't quite as bad.

    I did the same thing on a few of my yotas. One I used flex seal paste other I used Pur 15. 1 month in they’re both still sealed. Hope they last a wile

    I have a 99 4runner with the same issue. I've jb welded it twice now. Usually lasts about a year. Was thinking flex seal will be my try this time around (leaking again). Doubt it will last u more than a year, but hopeful

    That breather on the top of the housing looks choked up. This could cause a buildup of pressure forcing the oil out any weak area (perhaps only marginal though)

    • @CFITOMAHAWK
      @CFITOMAHAWK 7 місяців тому +1

      YES, IT WILL FORCE HOT OIL OUT.

  • @notavailable9919
    @notavailable9919 Рік тому +4

    Not really a long term solution, the oil will break the rubber down over time. My vote is to cut it off and weld on a new cover.

  • @ExtremeRecluse
    @ExtremeRecluse 4 місяці тому

    What about the breather valve on top. The pressure will build and start leaking if it is broken

    in all seriousness, I love my Tacoma. They're hard to beat.
    If you find a good deal on an axle down south, you should road trip that truck to pick it up.

  • @jrjunior9327
    @jrjunior9327 5 місяців тому

    This will only make things worse over time it will create more moisture under the flex seal then there was before. Better option for quick fix would not recommend this fix.
