Awesome day-one review, Mike! Very useful… I love that you went for a resolution that I use (UWQHD 3440x1440) and most reviewers simply ignore! It seems this card is the sweet spot for that resolution in most games! That MSI card in particular looks like a really excellent implementation of the new Super variants. I am actually seriously considering purchasing this card… as long as they don’t go crazy with the pricing in my region (Canada). Keep the day-one reviews coming!

Hello Mike lovely review. I'm a bit of a fan to when it comes to MSI cards. Love the slim model and the Good cooling this Card has. This one is definitely interesting cause of the upgrade that the super brings to the table. I still wouldn't go for it for one reason . " 12 GB ", that not gonna last long. Still don't think this one is worth it because of the12 GB - for 600 £ , especially in games to come - demanding more Vram. Id like my Graphics card to last at least 5 years. Now if it had 16 GB i would be all over it at 500 - 550 £. I will wait next gen maybe . For now still happy with my MSI RX 6800 16 GB bought ast 428 £ (500 euros ) and using the +/- same amount of Power as this RTX 4070 SUPER. Totally agree, MSI center for me and a lot of people is the control centre of choice. Although to be fair the other brands are doing a pretty shockingly bad job of it, MSI doesn't need to do much to be the best one.
Is and isn't a shame I bought the Zotac GeForce RTX 4080 16GB Trinity Black Edition Graphics Card for £1,039 before the 4080S as I doubt it'll be massively faster and no doubt, more expensive than that to begin with. Upgraded from a MSI VENTUS X3 4070.

Only thing i dont understand are the transparent strips at the bottom.. This remembers me of the older models where they also have similar strips but there they have RGB. For some reason msi decided to save a buck and just not make them RGB so that the only rgb part is on the side panel. For most people this might be unecessary but in my case (Hyte Y60) I use a vertical GPU mount. @@TenInfi that is something that i would like to be able to do, and also be able to get a baseline normalised sound reading. Sadly for where we are at, and where we actually film (basically our dining room) it is hard to get a reasonably accurate base level for comparison. The "studio" area often goes from around 30 to 40db or more because of external factors like neighbours, cars, sirens and even our cats and other family members in the house. I hope you understand the predicament we are in.
When looking at graphics cards, Do you know if there's much difference between brands? I'm fairly sure ive seen Gigabyte and Asus do a version of this along with Palit and Zotac. I've been eyeing up a 4070 TI Super.
it comes down to price and eco system really, especially for the ARGB ones. I have a mostly MSI system so integrating the lighting is simple and it will all match. if you mix and match RGB eco systems it gets a bit messy and they conflict so bear that in mind.
@@mikesunboxing Is there any chance that you will test version with two vents .Those are pretty affordable, but I dont know, how silent and cool are they. I'm looking at asus 2x 4070super, but regular 4070 were notorious with coil whine. problems...
MSI GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER 12G GAMING X SLIM is that the best card we can buy right now? I mean, is there better 4070 super with more cores or better cooler or something?
I am considering an upgrade for my wifes rig, going from a 3070 to 4070 super (this specific card, but black). Can you customize the RGB on the GPU via software, or is it static Rainbow???
no it doesn't seem so, the 4070 doesn't get very warm anyway and is only using at most about 200w so a massive slim cooler does the job just fine and is about 10-15c lower than the founders version
do you happen to remember what kind of rpms the fans were at during testing? i think the far right percentage( on top left msi afterburner osd ) should be the % fan speed but I'm not sure
Hello, does this video card still have the same problem that the 4070 Ventus 3x had, when the side power phases (one GPU and Mem) heated up to 100 degrees? This was clearly visible on the thermal imager; monitoring programs may not always show the temperatures of precisely those two power phases that heat up to 100 degrees. This question is very concerning when purchasing.
i honestly can't answer that question, hopefully after the card has finished the initial review circulation, i might be able to get hold of it again and i might be able to loan a thermal camera to see if that is an issue
i was trying to buy a FE today but they sold out straight away. Seems that the FE runs a fair bit hotter from the reviews i have seen. And this would appear to be around 5-10 percent faster and closer to the Ti level than the founders
I tried an ASUS dual Oc 4070s and wasn't impressed (and it BSOD playing dd2) and returned it. I've looked at all the different 4070S and they all have pros and cons. Do you think this is the 4070 S to buy or would you recommend a different one? I probably won't get white, though. Thank you, I have not found anyone else whose ripped the card apart. Is there any chance you can do the vram temps? Memory Junction and hotspot temps? Thank you. I got 18k on timespy with the Asus 4070S and my 10600k, lol. Not too bad for the old bird.
i have just bought this exact model for myself after MSI didn't let me keep it after the review cycle, so hopefully that reinforces my opinion on this card. I will be doing more testing on this is the coming days and weeks as it is going to be my daily driver so sure i can do that, or if you are on the discord i can do some other testing if you ask nicely :-)
@@mikesunboxing I am not but I might join(i really dont use discord that much tbh). It's going to be hard parting with my evga 3060 ti but the 4070s is a beast. Idk if I want the reg gaming x slim or the Purdy one. Lol. It's only 20 bucks. My girl says the Purdy one. I might have to go with her. Ty again!
@@mikesunboxing I am also interested in more temp tests if you don't mind! Can't afford to switch cards often so I'm after a card that lasts for years to come, just wanna make sure I get a good one :)
I've been looking too, I cant find it unfortunately. I contacted MSI and they mentioned that supply chain issues are keeping them from being available. I'm guessing it's just a U.S. issue right now.
Hello Mike, just a quick question, at this time stamp of around 6:36 , you state the gaming x has higher boost clocks than the gaming x slim model, and that this model is in the medium category above the ventus model. I had a look on the msi store and compared the "GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER 12G GAMING X SLIM WHITE" to the "GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER 12G GAMING X WHITE" and the x slim had 200mhz higher boost core clocks, I am wondering is the slim x is indeed have higher boost clocks and would be faster than the x slim version? I don't know much about GPUs so I could indeed be wrong
@@mikesunboxingI appreciate you getting back to me so soon, what would be a better card? and what would be the tiers of the 4070 super from worst to best? if you don't mind
@@xdashy2083look at the boost clock and see which one is highest and that indicates the speed of the card. I went with the gaming x slim and it’s an absolutely fantastic card so I would recommend that one.
Is it noisy? fans and temps are okay I guess but one of my friends got gaming x slim 4070ti and he is annoyed with squeaking sound during high loads I wonder if 4070S got the same problem
I really like the card I just picked up the dragon waifu version because its got a hot dragon waifu on the backplate 10/10 card 😂 the plate is metal and goes on with a magnet so you can take it off then its just a red version of this card.
The elds on the graphic card are just limited to the msi logo? The middle marcs does not have rgb? I have this graphic card and I dont know if they have there rgb, but it look slike
Brand doesn't matter but in few reviews i've seen you are the only one who likes this 4070 super Mike. And I see those Micron memories and i saw the number 8 which is a bad Micron series causing a lot of problems.. Msi started to go much more cheap lately product quality of them goes down. I guess still only Micron makes 6x chips yet..
i'm having trouble with connectng more than 1 monitor.. only the HDmi works.. the 3 display ports doenst work... windows dont recognize the monitors, the displays... i'm getting crazy.. any tip to fix that ?
that that proves that you didn't take much notice of the review or other ones, the OC editions are much closer to the Ti than the MSRP or founders cards.
@mikesunboxing Any chance you could check if you have coil whine with RDR2 and DLSS on for 120+ fps. I just got a Zotac 4070S and it's got coil whine on graphically intensive games above 120fps, so I'm thinking about going for the MSI. Also how's the general noise of the fans? What's the minimum RPM at 30%? Sorry for the questions, there's absolutely no info on this cards noise online.
i don't have the card on hand now, it has gone on the review cycle, but the noise levels where very low and the fans only kick in at around 50c and it doesn't get much above that, and when they do like i said my case fans where louder@@SideFlame
i would think most of the triple fan versions will be quite similar in use, i haven't had the pleasure of trying the ASUS one so can't really comment, but unless it is using noctua fans, it will be in the same ballpark
£60 Price Premium for WHITE & £45 for BLACK - nope not worth it - perform almost identical to any other (cheaper) 4070 Super - You can get them for £579 so that's an £80 Premium over that card😲😲
well first off it it marketed as a 1440p card and as for the nvidia g force experience i had to uninstall that app as it was hitting my HD for over 8000Mbits every 5 seconds, that app has been compromised and my guess is they are looking at cleaning out the code that ha s been hacked. my bet it is why your % lows are in the can.

Hi mike beautiful card, may i ask what is the white case behind you?
that is the Thermaltake Ceres 500, a great case we did a review on it a while back
Awesome review. MSI did a great job on the Gaming X Slim. Nvidia is the Nike in GPU's. 😎
Indeed it is! I am somewhat of a MSI fan so slightly biased
@@mikesunboxing Same. Luv my new MSI 1440p Monitor. Goes great with my 4070.
Finally to see slim gpu!
it is very welcome
Is the 4070 super good pair with 5800x3d
yeah really good combo
Is this available in the US? I haven't been able to see it. It looks amazing.
yes it is and should be a better price than we pay in the UK
I cannot find it on newegg, amazon, or the msi us store, referring to the white version and apparently the red version as well.
I dont have time to watch.. What are the temperatures and Db? I need cool and silent gpu,I dont mind about + fps more..
It is cool and silent
@@mikesunboxing Is there any chance that you will test version with two vents .Those are pretty affordable, but I dont know, how silent and cool are they. I'm looking at asus 2x 4070super, but regular 4070 were notorious with coil whine. problems...
MSI GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER 12G GAMING X SLIM is that the best card we can buy right now? I mean, is there better 4070 super with more cores or better cooler or something?
until the suprim arrives (if it does) this is probably the best in my opinion
Does the MSI GPUs come in a sealed box or with a film over the box?
they should do i think
My 3080 ti broke and the store asked if i want to choose a new card, do u think this would be a good replacement for my 3080 ti ?
hmm not sure really, but very close in some games
It seems that also on this card there is no thermal pad for the rightest vrm right? as it was in case of 4070 gaming x trio?
i'll take a closer look, it appeared that it was completely covered but i may have been mistaken, or the section doesn't require additional cooling
This card cost 850$ in Russia(
do you know if this card uses the new 12Vhpwr 2X6 the H++? Instead of the old 12Vhpwr H+
i believe it is the older connection on mine, but i would think newer models have the newer plug, although i struggle to see the difference myself
I am considering an upgrade for my wifes rig, going from a 3070 to 4070 super (this specific card, but black). Can you customize the RGB on the GPU via software, or is it static Rainbow???
yes you can change it to what ever you like
Any info about the GPU and hotspot temperatures under full load?
i don't have readings, but it was very cool, around 60c under full load and about 10c more for the hotspot if i recall correctly
Is the slim version a disadvantage to cooling?
no it doesn't seem so, the 4070 doesn't get very warm anyway and is only using at most about 200w so a massive slim cooler does the job just fine and is about 10-15c lower than the founders version
do you happen to remember what kind of rpms the fans were at during testing? i think the far right percentage( on top left msi afterburner osd ) should be the % fan speed but I'm not sure
not sure but it was pretty much silent at all times
hey man thanks for replying so fast lol, just asking because i cant decide between this one and the asus tuf@@mikesunboxing
@@mikesunboxing It would be great!
And it is $900 in our country on today's conversion rate. So, it is damn expensive for us.
that is a lot of money, the World is messed up right now
$1,209.00 aud including GST == 681.23 GBP including VAT in australia $60 less than same Ti model
hmm not great but okay
Where was this card bought from?
borrowed from MSI UK
How does it compared to FE? Is it worth the extra cost? GxS is roughly 10% more expensive here
i was trying to buy a FE today but they sold out straight away. Seems that the FE runs a fair bit hotter from the reviews i have seen. And this would appear to be around 5-10 percent faster and closer to the Ti level than the founders
@@mikesunboxing where are you located? I managed I managed to snatch another Fe
@@MrAxmen26 South West England
@@mikesunboxing:( unfortunately on a different continent
@@MrAxmen26 Enjoy your FE 🙂
Nice card but too rich for me, 600 quid for a 70 class, what next a tenner for a mojo!
lol yeah penny chews are a thing of the past, like cheap GPUs
I still can't find this card for sale anywhere, at least not being scalped on ebay.
what country? there are links for UK stores in the video description, that where updated yesterday
@mikesunboxing US. And my apologies, I specifically meant the white one. It's unavailable here unless you wanna pay a scalper 1000 bucks on ebay.
I've been looking too, I cant find it unfortunately. I contacted MSI and they mentioned that supply chain issues are keeping them from being available. I'm guessing it's just a U.S. issue right now.
@matthewmccracken6594 yeah that seems to be the case. The only other white 3 fan model is the gigabyte aero oc. Boo.
I don't know much about GPUs so I could indeed be wrong
sorry i was meaning the the gaming x versions are boosted, the gaming non x is pretty much base founders spec
@MarkedTableG I actually bought the x gaming slim white and happy with it... but I have a i7 9700k so deffo need to upgrade the CPU
Is it noisy? fans and temps are okay I guess but one of my friends got gaming x slim 4070ti and he is annoyed with squeaking sound during high loads
I wonder if 4070S got the same problem
i did not notice anything like that i am pleased to say. was very cool and quieter than the case fans under heavy loads
Where to Buy MSI GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER 12G GAMING X SLIM WHITE Graphics Card in UAE - GCC Gamers
i'll see what i can find
Can you adjust the RGB on the front of the card?
yes it will sync in msi center
when will this white version be released?
Already in stores
How does it fare in terms of noise?
very quiet, i don't think the fans ever got fast enough to make any noise, this cooler is crazy overkill for the GPU
@@mikesunboxing thanks! It a good review
I really like the card I just picked up the dragon waifu version because its got a hot dragon waifu on the backplate 10/10 card 😂 the plate is metal and goes on with a magnet so you can take it off then its just a red version of this card.
very nice
i love how this exact model costs 1000$ in my country smh.
The elds on the graphic card are just limited to the msi logo? The middle marcs does not have rgb? I have this graphic card and I dont know if they have there rgb, but it look slike
just the msi logo has rgb
@@mikesunboxing 🥲, okey thanks 🥲🥲
it has software control of the rgb?
yes msi center, or open rgb or signal rgb
Does it have rgb on the fans side of the card?
no just that small area at the side near the ports
Does it have Coil Whine or not?
only a little over 500fps
Brand doesn't matter but in few reviews i've seen you are the only one who likes this 4070 super Mike. And I see those Micron memories and i saw the number 8 which is a bad Micron series causing a lot of problems.. Msi started to go much more cheap lately product quality of them goes down. I guess still only Micron makes 6x chips yet..
i think a lot of manufacturers have gone over to micron for this gen of cards
@@mikesunboxing Yes they did that..
They even have the two slots to add 2 ram sticks in the card.... nvidia you damn evil bastards
i think the 192 bus would need opening up for the extra 4GB
@mikesunboxing damn. I had no idea about that stuff. Thanks Mike. 👍
Are you able to disable the rgb?
yes you can
i'm having trouble with connectng more than 1 monitor.. only the HDmi works.. the 3 display ports doenst work... windows dont recognize the monitors, the displays... i'm getting crazy.. any tip to fix that ?
doesn't recognise them at all ever? that is odd. could be the DP cables arent lactching in fully and locking
Wtf cares about fps benchmarks when the only difference among different brands is just the cooler and clearly no Temperature test...
that that proves that you didn't take much notice of the review or other ones, the OC editions are much closer to the Ti than the MSRP or founders cards.
When is the original 4070 available for $399 ?😅😅 That is my budget.
2026? maybe
Is there any coil whine at high fps?
i did notice some in a couple of the menus when it was 500 fps or more, but that is expected
Sorry for the questions, there's absolutely no info on this cards noise online.
i don't have the card on hand now, it has gone on the review cycle, but the noise levels where very low and the fans only kick in at around 50c and it doesn't get much above that, and when they do like i said my case fans where louder@@SideFlame
i cant see my voltage via msi afterburner with this gpu... and changing powertarget doesnt do anything
not sure what is going on there sorry
How Can I change the ARGB color of the logo?
msi mystic light software
How do I change the RGB?????
msi center and msi mystic light
Like that ity's not as Bluky as other rediculous fat cards
Yeah that is my take on it as well
little PCB ....but got so EXPENSIVE.....
Super $599/€659/£579...Ti Super £780
How do you think it stands up thermal wise to the Asus 4070 Super?
i would think most of the triple fan versions will be quite similar in use, i haven't had the pleasure of trying the ASUS one so can't really comment, but unless it is using noctua fans, it will be in the same ballpark
compared to my 4070 ti its 3x smaller
£60 Price Premium for WHITE & £45 for BLACK - nope not worth it - perform almost identical to any other (cheaper) 4070 Super - You can get them for £579 so that's an £80 Premium over that card😲😲
It does perform better than the msrp cards but I understand where you are coming from
Just get the Ti… cheaper / same price and better fps in most games lol
Not the same price anywhere here. Otherwise I would be happy to

it had to happen one day!
MSI good product $hit RMA a little scratch from screw driver at the gpu backplate they void the RMA suck MSI I never buy MSI product again
