This mall used to actually be a nice place. I remember a movie theatre, a Loblaws, and meeting the power rangers there when I was a kid. Sad to see it go but the mall isn’t what it once was. Thanks for giving us something to watch for years to come
Actually, it’s kind of ironic but it is exactly as it was minus the foot traffic. All the people went to newer, redesigned malls while this remain stagnant and stuck in then”past” like time stood still for them. Of course I’m fond of bygone days. Big modern malls are too busy and hectic for my taste.

I am a senior and I have been going to this mall almost everyday for the past 20 years. I am going to be so disappointed if this mall disappear because I have no other place to go. 😌😔😟😰😥😢
GTA needs the housing for sure but it shouldn't be at the expense of loosing these places, the developers should be required to incorporate the mall into the development. These places are still a destination for some social interaction, be it a coffee with friends or strangers or just a place to walk when the weather outside isn't favorable.
The more stipulation you put on new development the more expensive you make it for the end user. I understand the desire for 3rd places but that should be on the city planning department.
@@TheTroyc1982 Your right the city planners have to outline what fits in the community and what the community need are, just because a developer wants to build, what they build should make sense. I don't know this specific project, but the other one Johnny mentioned "Galleria on the park" the developer took away the Galleria Mall and the Wallace Emmerson community Centre, before being given the go ahead the developer had to include a new community Centre (that they build) in the master plan. There are other developments where the developer had to build a new high-school or incorporate a new library in the pedestal of the building, so that's why I think the developer in this case should consider the mall and its users, if they add 2000 (or whatever it is) units that's a huge new customer base, why not capitalize on that as well.
I lived in that area back from 08-14, that mall was on its last legs even then. The Promenade around the corner is a superior mall if thats what you're after. Fairview isn't far either, same with the one in Richmond Hill up the street
I used to take my children to Centre Point Mall just for something to do, so I have fond memories there. So sad to know that it is slated to be demolished. Thank you for the tour.

Thank-you for your videos. Some of these bring back so many memories for me. For example, I used to work at 2 Bloor West 15+ years ago and so your video about Cumberland Mall brought back a flood of memories. Now with this video I am reminded about how a friend and I used to come to Centrepoint a lot. Sometimes for a bit of shopping, but mostly just to go to The Pickle Barrel for lunch before going to see a movie. I hope these videos stay up for a long, long time. They act like a sort of time capsule of parts of the GTA.
There isn't really another mall around so I don't know why it's not busier. The nearby mall which is around the Promenade is also nice and also a dead mall.

Wow, times change. I grew up on the other side of Yonge St from the mall. Went there regularly from late 70’s to early 90’s. My high school is in behind it as well. Lot of memories there, but North York in general has changed so much in my lifetime. When I was a kid, the North side of Steeles was just open fields. Guess I’m getting old.
ive heard rumours the actual goal with yorkdale mall is to add towers ontop of the building, yorkdale mall atleast in 2019 was the most profitable mall per sqf in canada, and top 3 in north america, really cool walking around the back halls of yorkdale mall and seeing the many different bricks from all the different additions they've done over the years. unrelated but i've found canadian tire in a few locations has done quite well with building into new buildings and community's, its not great for anything but its good enough for most stuff making it a "popular" store.
When Town And Country Square first opened, my parents shopped there. I was just a child at the time. Throughout the first few years of it's existence, there was no mall. It was just Savette at the south and Discount Foods at the north . The two stores were separated by more than one hundred yards of open pavement. Later, they built a mall that connected the two stores. The eastern and western additions to the mall came much later.

like Centre Point Mall, there is a similar redevelopment plan under way in Hamilton for the former Eaton Centre (aka Hamilton City Centre) built in 1990. i dunno why? i think Centre Point Mall and Hamilton City Centre are both nice malls.

Yes there used to be a Zellers for many years and then they turned it in to a Target. Now, it's Canada Computers! I used to go to this mall all the time because I used to live around there but I don't anymore.
I think with all the online shopping everybody is doing is the reason why alot of malls not just in Canada but here in the US are closing. I haven't been to a mall in several years because I do all my shopping online.

The no frills there was a wolco when I got here in '91 then it was a supercenter then a loblaws now, where dollar store is was a ramp going up to a movie theater where watched all the movies for free, and a water fountain below with a smoking section where the kids from the highschool used to smoke along with everyone else. Only canadian tire and the bay remained since those times.
This project sounds what they did to Oakridge Mall in Vancouver. It was a high-end fashion mall with a Hudson's Bay and Apple store as anchors. They bulldozed the whole thing a few years ago and are still rebuilding it with numerous condo towers and a new shopping facility. There's a question whether Apple will return when it's completed.
This mall reminded me of old unimproved Dufferin Mall. The floor and the decor here looks dated. Just like the Dufferin mall looked before the renovations.
Remember shopping here all the time when it was Town and Country Square. How sad that it soon will be no more. Where will people go to shop in this area, or is online shopping simply taking over?

In this case the development has a potential problem because Metrolinx wants to build a bus terminal on the property, all the other developments need to know where the Subway and station will be located. Of course if nobody wants to take a gamble on real estate prices all bets are off. Up the road prices have dropped
Wow. When I lived near this mall (2008-2016) I knew it like the back of my hand, and it's quite surreal to have this virtual walk-through when the last time I was there was November 2016, a day or two before I moved to the UK. My ex and I always did our weekly shopping at No Frills, and we used to meet his mom there every single Thursday for dinner in the food court and shopping! This was back when the Dollarama was A Buck or Two and Zellers was still alive. We ALWAYS went in those two stores, Crappy Tire, the little clothing shop Grazia (we called it the Six Dollar Shirt Store lol), and Smart Maple which I see is no longer there. And his mom and I were often found in the gem & mineral store once that showed up. We always used the post office when it was there and enjoyed Pickle Barrel a time or ten. It's funny to remember shops that aren't there anymore, such as PayLess (next to No Frills). I remember sitting on those round seats/planters, drinking a coffee and having a bit of a rest. I honestly have so many lovely memories of Centrepoint and I'm so sad to see it go, but I know times and cities change with expansion and evolution. I'm overdue for a Toronto visit so I hope I can take one last walk through before it all gets torn down, but if I don't, I'm so grateful this little video exists. Thank you so much, Johnny!!
I remember A Buck Or Two, I remember there was 1 of those on the north side of Wilson just west of Jane where the Dollarama is now (1 of 2 Dollaramas in that area, across from each other). The store at that location used to be a Blockbuster Video a long time ago
Great video Johnny. I lived in the area for 6 years and I enjoyed a lot the Centerpoint. Before it was full of old Russians then it changed to Filipinos. Your video will remain a good memory of the past as unfortunately Toronto is destroyed in the name of “progress”.
Would be nice to see independant fashion stores We have enough cookie cutter fashion stores and stores for the ultra richWould be nice to see an actual leather store with warm(WARM) leather glo es mitts pants boots shoes purses long leather coats with ir without a winter lining Maxi midi car coat jacket short jacket etc Leather hats etc Cannot find one anywhere these days Every mall sold leather jackets for men and women and they were affordable They want to dish out this horrible weather and dress us for the islands😮

Will the 3000+ future households lthere likely be a need for a full-line department store at Yonge & Steeles after redevelopment? 3. This mall seems to have a huge amount of "Mom & Pop" businesses. I never seen a Best Buy Mobile before.
But centrepoint is a run down mall. It’s been in decay for 2 decades now. What used to be a working class neighbourhood becoming a working poor neighbourhood. The area is too valuable to have run down apartments and run down mall.

I think this is a decent redevelopment plan. Centrepoint Mall is a fine mall, but its not like a historic landmark that must ve preserved at all costs. Torontonians are too averse to change. Its no wonder nothing ever gets done quickly in this town.

Yea used to be a small theatre with 3 screens. Quite a nice little mall. Now it’s more like a flea market feel. So run down now.

It used to be called Town and County Mall from the 1970's when the grand opening started.

I was hoping the Line 1 extension could save the mall. I was thinking there could be a tunnel from the mall to the future Steeles station.

Centerpoint is one of those places that gives you a 90s or even 80s vibe. A true time warp indeed.
I think you’re right. Rising real estate values mean the owners can make more money. Some of the stores have good prices on basic unbranded clothing.
