@@elinchromLTD I am trying to help a colleague get setup and running with her new ELB500 and Skyport Pro. It's proving to be a nightmare for us. She's in another city and we are using Zoom. She has somehow managed to get it so that the Skyport no longer sees the ELB500 and so she can't trigger it. We have both set to the same channel (1), the group setting is All. I had her put it into the red background "speed" mode to try and simplify, but the transmitter and pack just aren't talking. (It doesn't help that I have never used one myself but I'm usually pretty good with studio strobe gear. This one is driving me insane though.)
So I guess what I'm saying is, it would be really super nice to see a video that walks through how to setup and use the Skyport with the ELB500 pack. Assume a newbie and start with the basics. It seems like the simplest concepts are really hard to get with these two units.
@@BruceWalkerPhotography The rule here is to have the same frequency, the same group, and the same mode on both unit and transmitter. That means if you set up your transmitter into Speed Mode, make sure your unit is also into Speed mode or no connection will happen. But, in general, we recommend staying in Normal mode if you have a DSLR camera. www.elinchrom.com/learn/what-speedmode.html
@@elinchromLTD Thank you! I was so close to buying them thinking you'd have 500Ws to both channels when both heads are connected. Also may I ask why there's no trigger actually supplied with the pack and only a PC sync cord ?

I have just upgraded to ELB 500 from old Quadra's as the units are slightly more powerful and you can use two heads at full power which for me is ideal - as I wait for delivery in the UK from those super people at Clifton Cameras I have a question does the 500 do HS?
Hi Nelson, thank you for your message. Yes, the ELB 500 provide HSS, but please make sure it is compatible with your camera brand. www.elinchrom.com/support/ELSP-HS.html#compatibility_cam To activate this feature along with TTL, you also need the dedicated Transmitter for Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji, Pentax, Panasonic or Olympus. www.elinchrom.com/support/ELSP-HS.html#versions And please note that the ELB 500 cannot provide full power on each head as you seem to mention. This is physically not possible. The pack in total can deliver 500ws but split in each of the head (if 2 heads or connected).
I have the elb 500 with the odin ll for Canon its awful didn't work right from day one I sent it back for the Tec guy's to have a look at it came back the same . Very dissatisfied with it . ( I have two odin controls so it not the trigger ) works fine with the Elinchrom trigger . Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
@@elinchromLTDas far as I am aware there is no firmware up dates for the phottix odin ll for Canon at the moment as I said works great with great with the sky port controller. Looking forward to your response
When used with Odin II (Nikon trigger) manual mode on, does the ELB 500 stay in TTL or switch to true manual? If the ELB 500 stays in TTL modes what is the color consistency like across the power band from low to full power? Also is the modeling light controllable from the Odin? Thanks
No, you can have both ports fire at the full 500w/s of power for both heads combined (250w/s each), or you can have port A fire at full power and port B fire at the lowest power.
Alejandro: No; a pack with 2 outlets can only put out x amount of wattseconds (joules). How that energy is divided will depend on the lighting effect the photographer is looking for. It could be 50/50, 70/30, etc., depending on what setting the pack allows.
Hi! Do You have in Your plans to support a Pentax users !? I have a 645Z and I need el skyport with TTL and HSS! And, please, add also support for Leica M cameras!
It took almost 10 hours to charge ELB-500 I got from B&H. Manual says it should take less than 2 hours so 10 hours sounds excessive / abnormal. Please advise what might be going on, I need to decide is unit defective / should I send it back for replacement.
I have a ELB 400 and the flash head broken twice at the pivoting plastic attack to stand. Even using them VERY carefully they are too poor and light made. Searching maximum compactness and low weight they use a too slim and bad quality plastic house IMHO. Far away from my old Elinchrom lamps , made like a tank with all metal made pivoting system . A very bad and cheap solution. I don't know if the new ELB 500 heads are better made (visually it seems the same) , but the ELB 400 heads are simply terrible. And to repair them is expensive. Pity, because for the rest they are very good and capable products
I think it’s about time your pricing comes back to earth Elinchrom what you offer is offered much cheaper elsewhere. I like the quality but your days of milking photographers of their hard earned are over innovate or die off & phottix no way in hell I’m touching that crap again!.
How about doing an instruction video for the Skyport working with the ELB-500 Battery Pack????
Hi Frank, how can we help? Do you have issues with your transmitter?
Elinchrom i would also like to see such a video. It is not fully clear how they interact in different modes.

With both heads attached to the unit and in use does the unit put out 500Ws to each head ?
No, the output power is distributed over the 2 heads.

It switches to true manual. The color stability is consistent across the all range, +/- 200 over 7 f-stops.

Ok. Thanks for the clarification :)
