  • Hey y’all!
This was on me HEAVY after yesterday’s Sunday service. So I decided to share here. This is a message for the worship drummer. May we realize the very special gift that we all carry and how much it really changes the world! 🌎

It's amazing that God directed me to this video. First time seeing you on youtube today. What's amazing is I've been saying this to young drummers for years. The whole purpose of playing the drums is to glorify God with the gift that he gave you unto salvation. Unfortunately, many drummers are glorifying themselves by making every song a drum solo. Music needs time to breath. Your words remind me of Mark ch. 4 (the entire chapter), especially verse 22. On ward Christian Soldier! You're Awesome in God!

I only saw you because i was looking for other female Worship Drummers, because every song im trying to learn for church are played by men. But listening to this message, i knew you were right. Practicing in private where only the Lord sees me helps me play because without the Lord I couldn't play the drums. Each time i sit at my kit, I pray for the lord to come. Each song is given by him for me to play. Ive posted online but the lord says to. So others can see the lord not me. My journey as a worship drummer is still new but every second is for the glory of the Lord. X😊

It's evident that this is confirmation. This past Thursday evening I was eager to go live on Instagram practicing however I felt a pull on my heart not to, I obeyed, and fast forward to this message. Thank you for this message! 🙏🏾🙏🏾

    Lengthy comment alert:
Check this out! January 7 was the day I made my official debut playing drums at Youth Center Outreach Ministries in Chicago and let's just say that I started off 2024 on the drums with a bang! Youth Center also started off 2024 with a bang and three people joined church that day! I did things on the drums I didn't think I could still do! You may see how happy I am to do what I love to do but you don't know what I had to go through to get back to the level of drumming I once was in! I'm gonna be transparent with you. 2018 was the worst year of my drumming career. Stepping down from two churches in the same year due to unforeseen circumstances although I never terminated my membership at one of them was frustrating! I looked at drum videos on UA-cam including a few of yours to keep me motivated but that got boring on occasions. By the way, your videos aren't boring by any means! The year of 2019 was the closest I came to retiring. A friend mentioned me in a comment on a post by a singing group looking for a drummer. She didn't have to do it but I'm glad she did! I went to play drums and I only had one hour to put together a drum cover. It was a drumless track titled Shed Away by Kaz Rodriguez. Despite being extremely out of drumming shape, I did the drum cover in one take. By the way, I listened to the track a few times before playing to it. After that, I worked a 16-hour shift and in between both shifts, I put the video together and sent it to the group’s inbox. I had an interview with three ladies and I met both of their parents who are pastors. Within days, I was named their drummer. In 2020, Covid had to show up! SMH! Life was indeed lifing and it was lifing with authority! Almost everything was shut down for a while and that was just when I was about to get my groove back. Ouch! When things opened back up, I was starting to get back into the flow of things and I started playing more in 2021. I still wasn't in great drumming shape but I was in better shape in 2021 than I was in 2020. Then I played more in 2022 and I was getting my groove back again. Another friend asked me to play drums at her husband's homegoing in July 2022. Out of all drummers she knew, she picked me. She didn't have to but she'll forever be appreciated for that! I went to Houston on vacation and I had the symptoms of diabetes. When I went to play drums at a studio there, I couldn't really do what I wanted to do because I was frequently urinating. I thought it was an overactive bladder but I was wrong. When I came back to Chicago for my cousin's milestone birthday celebration, I was still urinating a lot but not as much. A week and a day later, I went to the emergency room. With my daughter's concern, it was confirmation I needed to go get checked. September 6, 2022, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. My sugar level was high enough to kill me and if I had waited any longer, I probably wouldn't be here today. After my discharge on September 12, 2022, I had contemplated retiring from playing drums but the contemplation then wasn't as strong as it was in 2019. 2023 was the year of redemption for me. The love of my life said that more drumming opportunities will come along and they did! I played for a gospel choir sponsored by The Salvation Army on a few occasions. I played at a program on Wednesdays although there were times I didn't play but it was no pay. I went to a camp in July 2023 but I was hospitalized a week prior to going. After I was discharged, I wasn't 100 percent but I still gave it all I got! I subbed on Father's Day for morning service and played every Sunday starting in July 2023 with the exception of being in the hospital on one Sunday, being at camp another Sunday, and working overtime in September 2023. I was playing but I was getting frustrated about not getting paid! Of course it wasn't about the money! I found it a travesty that there were no negotiations whatsoever about paying me! I explained my frustrations to my lady and the music director but there was nothing either one could do. I decided to pray to God about it. That was something I should've done a long time ago! All of a sudden, a friend from grammar school texted me asking me if I wanted to be drummer at her church five days before Christmas and I gladly accepted but the one thing that completed my year of redemption on the drums was when my cousin presented me with the Wilson-Roberson Musician Incentive Award on New Year's Eve. I did NOT see that coming and she didn't have to do it but I'm glad she did! The names Wilson and Roberson came from the last names of my cousin's spiritual sons who were both musicians. Arteze (pronounced Ar-tez) Wilson was a musician who was in a motorcycle accident in September 2015 but sadly succumbed to his injuries in March 2017. Jemel Roberson was a musician who wanted to be a police officer. Sadly on November 11, 2018, he was gunned down by a police officer at apprehending an armed suspect at a lounge he was doing security at. My cousin loved those two and she was real close to both of them! The award was first presented in 2019 and all the past recipients were kids. I didn't think I was gonna get this award because I'm 45. The spirit led my cousin to me and surprised me with that one! That was one great way to end 2023! I've played all three Sundays in 2024 and I must say that this is the happiest I've ever been on the drums out of almost 27 years of playing! I prayed about it privately and the Lord came through publicly and emphatically! Just when I was about to retire, I'm soooooooooooooo glad I didn't and I'm gonna give it everything I got until my body wears out! It's safe to say that retirement from the drums is no longer an option now but more importantly, I have to continue to seek God for everything! I just want to let you know you're one of my favorite lady drummers and keep doing what you do!
