Most carrots you find in the store, which are wider at the leaves and taper to a point, are Danvers; if it's roughly the same width the whole length but still tapers to a point, and is fairly narrow, it's likely an Imperitor. What Julia bought is likely a very large variety of Nantes, cylindrical carrots with a blunt end. Nantes have a huge variety, and can be a lot of different sizes. If you're eating a raw carrot, I think Nantes taste the best. They had them at a grocery store where I lived for college, and I sadly haven't seen them since.
