Yeah bois. I remember hearing this song, and i heard a small amount of a song that reminded me of this, took 4 hours of lyric finding to find this song, damn worth it though am i right?
I feel like their more popular songs don't have that ability as in they sound good from the start but their less popular songs like hallelujah and God forgot. While still fairly popular aren't as popular because they have the starting mediocre ness
Australian Gold, Well done Boys and congratulations to Triple J for supporting and nurturing Australian music talent and playing well over their minimum commitment of Australian songs because their listeners want it. UNLIKE THE COMMERCIAL STATIONS
I heard these guys for the first time at the pink concert, they are amazing. The people sitting next to me were there to see The Rubens...not pink. I have downloaded all there music since and haven't stopped listening to it since. Get on board guys , they are awesome.
As an Australian that lives in England, I'd never actually heard this song until it came in at number 1 while streaming live! I once was a jjj nerd and I love that this came in at number one. Great stuff, good to see you don't need to be commercialised worldwide to win the countdown. Will always
I'm so blessed to know a couple of the Margin lads a little...Fantastic parents +a great area to grow up with great friends was a recipe for winners! Love their music and their bumblebees Keep at it boys!!! This was a year as my Mum passed and they had a major hit xx
I loved this song when it first come out! Forgot all about it, I just heard it on a playlist while working. Ran straight to my phone yo download it. Ahhhh the nostalgia
Looking back at how everyone complained about this song getting #1 but now this year we have Confidence by Ocean Alley, this song is easily twice as good as confidence.
never realized it until like the 100th time I watched this video that the golden plant and phone change each time, and then by the end, the table is flipped
Lol. I can’t get past this song. Questions me and my friends regularly ask each each other: 1. Are you lonely? Are you dere when I’m not in da room.? 2. Are you only? Only a part of this when you choose? 3. Is it real? Is it something that you cannot touch? 4. Do you feel? Do you feel that you feel too much? Then we pass the doobie on the left hand side.
I remember the first time I ever listened to this song I was 15 I watched it on the tv show “rage” I didn’t like it at first but now I’m out of my stage of only listening to rappers I’m in love with this song definitely underrated 🤍
Hahah that me too. Maybe I was 12 and hated it because my mum liked it. I wanted Kendrick to win hot 100 that year. But now I'm all about Aus music and enjoying the local scene much more. But always have a spot for the rappers in the trenches in my heart. KING KUNTA ✊
I downloaded this because it was No 1. I put it on a playlist for my bike rides, sorted by length. It was between two songs of the same length. Sad and Lonely and Blue covered by Iva Davies, and Crucify Your Mind by Rodriguez. Both of them kill it stone dead. It's not that its a bad song or anything, but if this is the best song of the year its been a very bad year.
+WhyDidHeEatThat as a tripple m listener that station plays great music but without tripple j giving them air time we would on mainstream(rock) would not know about them
I have a theory that this song is about quitting smoking. Hear me out, so "Bloodstains won't make things matter" - side effects from smoking (eg coughing up blood). "Won't make things matter got good things, got you" - the effects he gets from smoking. "Hoops and everything" - smoke rings and the such. "Get back, never get back too soon" - he's inevitably going to get back to smoking durries.
+scott nicholson Makes sense, but smoking could be replaced by a girlfriend or ex. Bloodstains could symbolise scars from the relationship, but he keeps thinking about them and ends up with them again. "Hoops" is more than likely this process repeating itself.
+scott nicholson Mine, and this is completely personal opinion, is that it is a message rather than about something specific. "Blood stains, won't make it matter" - Anti self-harm message. Spilling blood won't make things better/change anything. "Got good things, got you" A huge thing for many people suffering depression is to have a sense of self worth, belief in themselves and to see the value in their own life. But I think it's best people find their own interpretation. Doesn't necessarily have to be a clear cut answer. For example, to take a different point from what the person below said - it could be about a previous relationship. Bloodstains could represent lashing out, in which case it could be saying that lashing out at a person who hurt you won't make things matter or change anything, and to chin up - you've got good things, got you. That's if you take it as a message I guess. The album art is a hand making the okay sign, album title hoops. Hoops could mean being okay, I guess. Beauty of it finding your own take :)
Just wanted to see what everyone was raving about on Triple J congrats on the win. Although I find this song very lackluster, nothing about it screams good to me. Everything is very basic, well I guess that's what most people obviously like. I'll be off playing IRE by Parkway drive those guys have come a long way especially for a band that doesn't get day time radio play.
Can confirm. Boring song. I'm not sure I understand Indie. All indie singers sound the same. all the instrumentation is always very simple, and the song is just dull overall. How in gods name did this win anything.
+Ted E Bear All music is great, if most of an entire country voted for this song... that would mean your choice of music sucks XD Though i love Parkway and am glad they got a few songs in the countdown. I was chanting hoops from the top 20. I'm sorry you can't enjoy some good tunes.
probly about a breakup with bloodstains symbolising the pain and scars and the hoops and the obstickles his girlfriend wants him to go through (dophins jumping hoops)
I saw these guys live in Coffs this year (2023) and these guys still rock and got the crowd pumping.
This song is infectious. It is a steering wheel banger for sure. Damn, I love it.
THIS SONG GOT FORGOTTEN SO QUICKLY BUT I FOUND THIS AGAIN AND ITS ABSOLUTE PLAYLIST MATERIAL
Who forgot this?
Yeah bois. I remember hearing this song, and i heard a small amount of a song that reminded me of this, took 4 hours of lyric finding to find this song, damn worth it though am i right?
Check out spacey Jane Feeding the family
Same lol I heard this song at Mac Donald’s and now listen to it forever xD
Better go in that playlist
The Rubens have an uncanny ability to sound mediocre at first and then become essential playlist material.
Ben Rujo BAHAHHAHA
This is a great example of a backhanded compliment 😂 but you’re not wrong.
I feel like their more popular songs don't have that ability as in they sound good from the start but their less popular songs like hallelujah and God forgot. While still fairly popular aren't as popular because they have the starting mediocre ness
I wouldn't know, this is the only song of theirs I like.. good song though
Accurate as fuck!

I'm surprised how little views this song has. It should have a lot more.
As an Australian that lives in England, I'd never actually heard this song until it came in at number 1 while streaming live! I once was a jjj nerd and I love that this came in at number one. Great stuff, good to see you don't need to be commercialised worldwide to win the countdown. Will always
#1 in the hottest 100!! Well deserved

Just saw these guys performing last night, incredible experience!
I don't give a shit what anyone else says. I love this song so much.
KaPowe13 yep it fucking good
KaPowe13 me to Paul
It Is not a song. It is a message. Music tricks your ego. It lulls it with the tune so the wisdom can sneak past the gate.
@@stewartmcjinnon6034 The fuck are you on about?
@@funtimefreddie9637 I'm just saying it is hard to get through to some people due to their inflated ego.
I'm so blessed to know a couple of the Margin lads a little...Fantastic parents +a great area to grow up with great friends was a recipe for winners! Love their music and their bumblebees
Keep at it boys!!! This was a year as my Mum passed and they had a major hit xx

2020 and still an absolute banger
Best song can't stop listening to it
I love the band, but the main singer reminds me a lot of Jason segal, or Marshall from How I met your mother
Great Composer of a song!!! Love it! New Favourite from you blokes
Nice work guys! #1
They played this on 96.5 the buzz tonight and I absolutely loved it❤️
Lol. I can’t get past this song. Questions me and my friends regularly ask each each other:
1. Are you lonely? Are you dere when I’m not in da room.?
2. Are you only? Only a part of this when you choose?
3. Is it real? Is it something that you cannot touch?
4. Do you feel? Do you feel that you feel too much?

Calum Thaxter Yeah it is about a previous relationship, I was just trying to be creative.
+scott nicholson I always thought it was about a relationship which is more one sided, example: Are you there when im not in the room
WHY DOESN'T THIS HAVE MORE VIEWS!- I fricken love this song!
Am here cus of a UA-cam ad , great song
Syed Junaid same
+Syed Junaid I'm here because it was the pre/post flight music on TigerAir Au, and it sounded cool.
