    I do crisscross cuts across the hole cutout for relief from vibration with porcelain before doing the circle cut.

    In that shower area I would have cut all the tiles some to have allowed at least half a tile at the back wall. The tile cuts could have created an ‘accent feature’ midway.

    I like that you waterproofed the edges of the bathroom. No such thing as overkill. Nice job

    So are you able to walk on the ditra mat immediately after it has been set?

    In this video, you use modified thin-set on top of the Ditra. In your other video you say to use unmodified thin-set on top (ua-cam.com/video/anXgmjrHS0s/v-deo.htmlsi=U6rQdcL6uAKoSdym&t=169). Does it matter?

    Always great educational info. So many channels gloss over the details but you take the time to explain why certain details are so important.

    I have 3.5” slat wood floor in the bathroom of my 50’s-built home and I am wondering if I’ll need to put plywood over that and then the Ditra mat, or can the Ditra mat go down over the slat floor?

    Great content bro keep em coming im trying to get on my own soon my question is do you usually start full tile on the corner of the shower pan/ tub and whatever cuts land on the entrance lands? As long as theres full tile on the tub/pan?

    • @BathroomRemodelingTeacher
      @BathroomRemodelingTeacher  2 роки тому +3

      That’s great. Definitely worth the stress of going on your own 👍 and for tiling walks, no I actually always try to have something cut on first row to tub or pan so I can guarantee a consistent space there (not all tubs or pans are 100% level) and then many times starting out with full tile at entrance and work my wat to corner usually works well in most showers. 👍

      @@BathroomRemodelingTeacher sounds good man you should do a video like showing folks the price range on how to charge for either tub surrounds curbed/curbless showers for either working with cbu or foam boards building niches etc.....but iknow it varies state to state im in Illinois

    Something else I noticed, these newer spaces the t lock and horseshoe.. ppl never really used those size groups joints really until those came out…20+ yrs for me and iv never seen 1/16” grout joints, it’s very rare to see 1/8 joints but a tad more common… why would that company push those sizes I wonder? Why would anybody want a grout joint 1/16?

    Love your videos ! Especially showing how dirty a job can get. Everyone yapping about how dirty this guy are clearly pretty boys that don’t know how to work ! I do have one question. I’m doing just the bathroom floor. But customer asked to maybe bull nose about a foot or two up the shower tub wall to avoid water damage to Sheetrock. Any other suggestions I could do ? I don’t think it will look good. It’s your basic vinyl tub/shower, and right in the tub area the water drips down wall and deformed the wall. So he thinks if I bullnose that area it won’t happen again. I personally think it will look like crap

    Really love your video would like to see a video of changing the tile on the floor that's been done correctly with that technique. Does it have to be stripped down to the joists?

  • @shettlock

    Making that circle cut. Wtf, that tile must be pretty bad to not handle what you were doing there. Nothing wrong with technique at all.

    Removed my 1990s tile and 2" mortar base. Toilet flange looks fine but its on little mini stilts. Thinking after i put ditra and new tile down, the flange will be about 1/4" inch above the tile. Not sure if i should swap to a new flange when the old one seems fine.

      Yes and do occasional use all set on top too. I like Ardex for its longer pot life. Plus it’s a 40lb bag and mixes nicer in a 5 gal bucket 😆 it’s the small things

    For the installation of the DITRA shouldn't you have put the lines from left to right ect... because that's the shortest distance for the air to escape?

    • @anthonysigman6138
      @anthonysigman6138 10 місяців тому +1

      I don't think it matters all that much the trowel notches are so low profile that there is hardly any air to press out. Plus he is working it out as he goes down the room unrolling it.

    I just installed Ditra Heat Duo. While laying out tile I noticed a hump in the floor. How can I level it out? Should I cut the laminate out and chip out the thin set and install a new piece?

    • @toxicbigot
      @toxicbigot 5 місяців тому

      No, the thinset you put on top when you’re filling the waffle will level you out. You’ll know if you’re still not level when you don’t see your trowel lines.

    Hey BRT, nice to see your longer format video again! Was curious if you have ever done demo of a bathroom that has ditra or any other thin-seted uncoupling membrane to the subfloor? 👀 I have not seen one yet. It must be fun and cheap. 😜

    Please explain to me what’s going on with that toilet flange. Please don’t tell me that you’re going to stick a flange inside of that 3 inch pipe which will choke it down to about a 2 1/2 inch hole.
