I usually don't wash my hair while in protective styles. I wash them after taking out the style
If it's just in the middle area, it could be due to the placement of your protective styles, like putting your styles in a ponytail or bun in the same area repeatedly. So, try alternating the position of your buns or ponytails if you usually put them in the same area repeatedly. You can also check out my video on hair growth tips
