Hi Buddy, wow, what an awesome axe! I like the huge Jersey pattern. This must be a real workhorse of an axe!I also got a Kelly, but a double-bit. Kelly axes are really fine Tools. Thanks for sharing! Cheers, Erik
How did you measure that to 10 degress? I can easily see that I have removed maeby twice as much steel from the bit and mine is sitting at 20 ish degrees
Silly question: What is the best way to get the gunk (sap, etc...) off your axe head once you're done processing wood? I am fairly new to taking an axe with me camping, and I ended up just using my Lansky puck to sharpen it and removed some gunk that way, the rest I wasted lighter fluid on. I'm sure WD-40 would clean it fine too, but there must be some proper way that I'm not aware of.
+Jeremy Madsen There are options though. There are Japanese rust eraser stones they are cut in a small cube and need to be soaked in water before use. You could also use a Japanese slurry stone (nagura) with a DC4 to build use stone mud from the nagura after its been soaked in water. They have the eraser stones at Chefknivestogo or sharpening supplies .com You can find nagura for cheap on Amazon too. Or buy a water stone that comes with one for free hehe Take care brother.
Acetone/Lacquer thinner works well for cleaning sap, pitch, grease/fat , oil based old paints. I also use it to clean my saw blades (finish carpenter) and it removes pine/fir pitch, glues, foam/plastic. A good portion of the time the blades are just dirty/built up and cleaning them returns them to a sharper condition.
I just won one on eBay for $5.50, in the process of restoring it.
I just found one of these in the trash. Need to reset the handle and sharpen but in great shape
Been wanting to get one of these Jersey axes and try it for splitting firewood.
Right on brother. Love a 32" handle.

+Jeremy Madsen honestly, I just wait until I'm done with the trip.

Skillcult's secret is animal fat/ bacon grease. It cuts right through the sap.
What is something like this worth restored in 9/10 condition? Anybody have any idea?
What dimension is different on the 3.5 pound Jersey?
