    I just loved the way Mile Flannegan has showcased the concept of hedonism through the character of Prospero Usher. Hedonism basically means that all our actions are influenced by our desire to get pleasure. Hedonism as a concept negates the existence of consequences and Verna's advice to Prospero that everything has a consequence is a testament to it.

    • @drtoonie
      @drtoonie 10 місяців тому +10

      I mean, Hedonism is a philosophical view that emphasizes maximizing pleasure and happiness, and minimizing suffering and pain, but consequences are something that factors into that. A lot of folk do so on a very short time scale without thinking of the consequences, but one can (and should, if they’re sensible) have future planning be part of that view. Perry wasn’t just a hedonist, he was specifically a short-sighted hedonist. And kind of a moron.

    Mike Flanagan made me Carla's fan ever since Gerald's game has been released.....
    Of course I saw her in Spy kids but nothin even close showed her actual talent but Mike gave her the chance to show it and I'm in awe.
    She even stole the show in Bly manor even though it was a small role and mainly she was a narrator but damn her voice sold the whole story.

    If I had to rank all of Mike Flanagan's horror tv shows in order it would go like this (for me) :
    5) Midnight Club (It was bad.)
    4) Haunting of Bly Manor (It was good, not scary but creepy with some emotional drama sprinkled throughout.)
    3) The Fall of the House of Usher (Amazing but not as good as My Top 2.)
    2) Midnight Mass (Absolutely incredible, slow burn but when it picks up it does not let go and becomes something truly terrifying and emotional by the end.)
    1) Haunting of Hill House (A Masterpiece, period.)

    This to me was such a rare moment for the character of Prospero. I love little nuances where he asked her 'if she liked it'? Almost with a little boy giddiness and excitement at telling his mom what cool thing he did at school.
    You could see that the affirmation that she gave him with all of the nuanced details meant so much to him as opposed to just saying something like, "yea it's cool" or "This is fricken awesome."
    The way he smiles at all of the details of his party was so shy and so humble. It really breaks down his character for me that he is, was, just a poor little lost soul searching for love and acceptance in this crowd of individuals and this seems to be his only way of finding it, even if he feels a little let down or unfulfilled by the superficial and shallowness of it all.
    You can see how entranced he is by her lure and ambiguity. It really shines just a tiny little flicker at his intelligence as you can tell he is truly listening to what she is saying and it almost seems like he was the closest to following her advice. I loved how these two had such incredible chemistry on the screen. It was such a horrific tragedy on what came next because I would have loved to have seen what more could have come from Perry but I suppose we shall never know.
