    GPS would try to maintain a fixed geographic position.
    A camera assisted guidance would try to move with the van.
    Helium balloons would move towards the front when the van accelerates and towards the rear when decelerating.
    A balloon that was neutral buoyant would maintain its position.
    This experiment did more to test the effectiveness of the GPS or visual modes ability to do what they claim.

    • @cprogrck
      @cprogrck 6 років тому +9

      That's for a helium balloon though and is a different effect. In that case the positive or negative acceleration causes causes a pressure differential whose high preasure area lies opposite to the direction of acceleration. When accelerating forward in a a vechicle the air molecules are forced rearward or rather they tend to stay in place until the pressure in the rear reaches an equilibrium with the acceleration. This pressure differential is what causes the ballon to move forward.

      please don't make the balloon problem sound so complicated. You can just explain it in one sentence.
      Because of first law of motion, air in the car tend to go to the rear of the vehicle during acceleration relative to the position of the vehicle that the air pushes the balloon forward.
      The question you should ask is will it have the same result if the vehicle have it's rear open where the air can just escape?

    • @Cheesus-Sliced
      @Cheesus-Sliced 6 років тому +2

      cprogrck or, more easily explained, air is a fluid. It moves the same way any other fluid does, and as such anything in that fluid moves according to mass.

    Hey I’ve got a physics background.
    What happens is this, if you start the drone before moving the car, the drone will *not* move with the car because it has no acceleration in the direction that the car does.
    However if you were to get going 20mph in the truck and fly the drone straight up relative to the car, it would stick with it.

    • @ashevilletrainman6989
      @ashevilletrainman6989 2 роки тому +4

    • @jamesonian90
      @jamesonian90 2 роки тому +2

      @@EliFuller20 There is nothing to cause it to decelerate. Since the drone is inside the truck, there is no air resistance to slow the drone down. If the drone was resting on the bed of the truck, and then the truck went up to 60 mph, and then the drone went straight up relative to the truck, it would move with the truck. Now, if the walls of the truck magically disappeared, then the drone would experience drag from the air and would decelerate from 60 mph down to 0 mph.

    • @EliFuller20
      @EliFuller20 2 роки тому +1

      @@jamesonian90 yeah it would move with the truck but for how long? We're assuming that it'll just continuously move at that 60 even for a whole hour staying same speed with the truck throughout. Idk I just feel like that needs to be tested

    • @EliFuller20

  • @SkyGuyChris
    @SkyGuyChris 6 років тому +29

    If you want the drone to move with the truck you have to let the truck get up to speed and keep that consistent speed then you can fly the drone. This way the drone is already going the same speed as you are.

      SkyGuyChris is not wrong. He is correct. If the drone would make no attempt to follow the truck (through GPS/ATTI mode), then it would not follow the truck if it was standing still initially, since they have no contact. If flying would begin when the truck is already moving, then it would retain the relative speed of the truck, and thus follow the truck.

    Its easy to explain with newtons 2nd law
    F = m * a
    Force is applied when an object with a constant mass accelerates
    That means that the drone will stay stationary when the truck stands still or drives with a constant speed.
    The reason for that is that an object wants to keep its current movement state.
    So when the drone is in the truck and tge truck accelerates the drones mass wants to stay stationary and the friction is not high enough to hold against the force that is applied to the drone.
    When the truck breaks after it drove with a constant speed its the same. The drone was stationary relative to tge truck, but not to the ground so it wants to keep its movement and crashes into tge front "wall" of the truck.
    Sorry for my bad english.

    I didn't catch your conclusion. The van has no pull or push on the drone. If you could just hover the drone in place, the van would drive away from it. Reasons why the van might not: the GPS function, the camera function, air pressure (high inside the van, low outside the moving van or vise versa).

    Physics 101 F=MA. (force equals mass times acceleration). Given a good GPS signal, the drone cares nothing about the truck being stationary or moving. It will try to maintain it's position relative to the satellites only not to the truck. The sensors on the bottom only manage height (z-position) but don't manage x or y position. With some drones the bottom sensor will try to land in a specific place (during RFH landing mode ONLY). Your video, while confusing physics concepts, was a good caution to those who want to launch a drone from a moving boat. Even a slow moving boat (with little or no relative wind) will leave a drone behind as the drone either stands still in GPS mode or stands still in ATTI mode as there are no forces to accelerate it forward (unless you move the stick forward during launch to create a force).

    • @TgrHwke
      @TgrHwke 6 років тому +1

      GPS is not ground based. Orbiting satellites are used to determine positioning.
      The Global Positioning System (GPS), originally Navstar GPS, is a satellite-based radionavigation system owned by the United States government and operated by the United States Air Force. It is a global navigation satellite system that provides geolocation and time information to a GPS receiver anywhere on or near the Earth where there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites.

    Same with sir Phil Michmerhuizen. I always wondered how a fly copes with speed when it's in an airplane or a closed vehicle? Is it moving with the airplane/vehicle? Is it one with the plane/vehicle?
    I asked my physics teacher explained how was it possible that when you jump on a train you stand exactly at the right spot. He said that when a moving vehicle is at constant speed, that will happen. However when you are in the state above the ground and the vehicle accelerated, you will not stay on the same spot. You will end up opposite the direction where the vehicle is heading. Great experiment

    To anyone curious about the correct answer to this question ill sum it up in my own words:
    You can fly a drone in a bus/train/airplane/car as long as it is traveling at a constant speed and not accelerating. If you were to take off while any of these were still getting up to speed then it would appear to either fly forward or backwards.
    The same goes with turning, if the bus youre flying on takes a right while youre hovering, the drone will not turn with the bus. Same would go with an airplane.
    But if you were riding an airplane, waited until after takeoff, and knew the plane was traveling in a straight line with no elevation change, you could fly your drone around.
    You would just have to be careful of turbulance from the propellers in a small space (and security 😂).
    Also, why does every video do this experiment using some dangerous drone with knives as propellers. Should definitely be doing this test with a ducted whoop.

    things get weird when you think about the earth spinning 100s mph and moving around the universe.
    what if the earths rotation created gravity and atmosphere pulling things inward?

      Soak a tennis ball in water then spin it... things being spun don’t naturally want to go inward... they want to go outward. As you spin said soaked tennis ball the water droplets fly away from the ball not retained on the surface. This proves earth is not spinning 1100mph as the oceans wouldn’t maintain level stuck to the surface of solid earth.

    • @dermotmcdermott6890
      @dermotmcdermott6890 6 років тому +1

      The earth spins at
      1000mph on its axis. But is actually traveling through space around 18,000mph while orbiting the sun. The atmosphere and everything on the planet is held on by the Earth's gravity. All of these statements can be proven with mathematics and observational evidence.

    For this experiment you need a "dumb" drone. One that does not auto hover or gps or ANYTHING. A cheap one that is fully manual.
    Now, if you hover it with the van stationary then move the van forward, the drone WILL smack the back wall (if you do not move the controler due to reflex). You feel this effect every time you push the gas pedal down. This is the force that pushes you into your seat so essentially YOU are smacking the back wall but the back wall is your seat. Someone mentioned the bug in your car does not smack the back window. That is because the bug is grounded on a surface of the car and when it starts flying, it flies with the momentum of the vehicle. If it comes through the window while you are moving, it will indeed smack the back or whatever surface it hits first...... It does not automatically and instantly accelerate to the speed of the car just because it enters the air inside the cabin (or your mouth if you have ever swallowed a bug lol).
    If you land the drone, move the van forward, then take off the drone will have the momentum of the van and hover and slowly move to back wall as it "coasts" to a stop just as if you stop from a full speed sprint, it will coast to a stop unless you put it in reverse to "throttle brake" it.
