    I went to school years ago wasted money our teacher never really taught us calculations at all. Luckily I didn't get much math on my exam, as I know when you test they are different versions. Anyways I sucked as a pharmacy tech, because I couldn't get some of math down. Only did one year that's been almost 15 years ago. I'm considering giving this career a try again I'm alot older and have matured greatly. Plus I have an autistic child so I need a work from home job, figure I can come back to this I still remember quite a bit, but this time I'm determined to learn everything correctly. Great video btw!

    Im a rPht, My issue with injectibles is that a patient will ask "how many pens is that" or "How many boxes am i getting for that price" and the pharmacy computer will show quantity dispensed 45 some other number. Turns out the dispense # is MLs, not in units- So I dont see the UNIT /ML in the computer so answering sometimes is difficult. Not to mention with the shortages going around on ozempic/trulicty/wegovy alot of partial fills are taking place.

    Doctor prescribed Lantus solostar U-100 insulin 100 unit/ml(3ml) insulin pen, Prescription is for a Quantity of 18 ml, SIG: 25 unit subcutaneously once a day. Can you tell me what you would get for this?

    • @PharmacyTechLove
      @PharmacyTechLove  9 місяців тому +1

      Ok. If there’s 100 units per 3 mL, that means each mL is worth 100 units, basically 100 units/mL. Now, if you have 18 mL that equals 1,800 units. Next, we divide the 1,800 units total by 25 units per day, which will give us a day supply of a 72 day supply. Not sure if the insurance would pay for that day supply or not, but who knows until you submit the claim. I normally don’t these type of questions in the comments but I had time today.

    Can you show us how to calculate day supply on trulicity..

    • @PharmacyTechLove
      @PharmacyTechLove  Рік тому

      Someone else asked that too. Really all you’re doing is calculating how many milliliters are in each pen. But I will definitely try to make that my next video for sure. It’s not easy to explain through a text so I will try to make that my next video if I can remember.

    For insulin pens, aren’t you supposed to add priming for accuracy?

    • @PharmacyTechLove
      @PharmacyTechLove  2 роки тому

      I’ve never had to prime pens for the hospital nor retail setting. We simply distribute the medication to the patient. We never open their products.

    The company I work for does priming units that sometimes confuse me

      @PharmacyTechLove  Рік тому

      That’s interesting, it would depend on how much they’re using for priming.

      Not always! It just depends on what your prescription says in retail, in the hospital setting I always double check the pharmacist work.
