    Just ordered a box of dino max. Seen it in some nucs I bought before. Good stuff. For the small beekeeper,unscented Swifter sheets does work on the texture side,but the better swifter is the unscented mop head type. Rip the outer sheath off and get the inner cloth out. Cut into 2 pieces.it has lots of fibers. In case your small beekeeper and have a problem and want to fix it now. Unscented Swifter mop heads will work.

    Take a beetle barn trap or an empty CD case, and apply Heavy Duty Double Sided Tape on the inner ceiling and floor of the trap, and see if you catch any beetles that way.

    Hi Kamon, love all your videos, I have been binge watching some. I recently saw a beekeeper put this clothes on top of the pollen patty he fed and it worked to keep the small hive beetles away from the patty. I guess the risk is the cloth is close to where the brood and queen is and fingers crossed you don’t get her majesty caught but I will be trying this on my smaller nucs especially who need lots of nutrition to get goi g

    We’ve found that a one or two inch smear of protein pattie on your material (draws) the beetles onto it and it’s over. They love the pattie as I’ve held the pattie in my hand as I opened the hiv and beetles(1to3) will fly right onto the pattie as I’m holding it in my hand.

    So I tried this method. I picked up the fabric from Mann Lake Ltd in Wilkes-Barre. I put it in my hives(1/4 sheet) last Sunday. Today I check my hives again. All 4 colonies had completely removed the fabric. The beetle barns seem to be working too!!

    Kamon, thanks for sharing your methods of common sense beekeeping. I always look forward to watching your videos ( not crazy bout the Bama shirts though - Go Tigers! ). But if you'll allow me to make a suggestion - My mindset is this: If someone has gone to the trouble of making a video that helps me or that I enjoy, then the least I can do is give it a "thumbs-up." And I most often watch videos on my smart TV. But your videos end so abruptly that I don't have time to move the curser with the TV remote to "Like" it before it goes away and the next video starts playing. You may already know this, and you may not care. But if you extended your ending slightly, as some others do, I would be glad to "like" them all - and I might not be the only one. Thanks again!

    I am seeing some other comments from beekeepers about their queens getting stuck in these. If you are now using them on a number of your hives and have had no issue with that, it would be good to know.... Keep seeing you in the same shirt... will have to send you a nice Ohio State Buckeye shirt to get you all spruced up!

    • @kamonreynolds
      @kamonreynolds  5 років тому

      The chances of the queen getting stuck are pretty low especially if you use it just in the corners. Honeybees do get stuck in these from time to time. It seems to depend on how old they if they catch bees alot or not.

    Kamon, I'm an aspiring bee keeper. I will be living in the Houston, TX area when I start my bee keeping. What's the maximum number of hives a couple can manage? Your input will be much appreciated. Thank you.

    • @kamonreynolds
      @kamonreynolds  5 років тому +1

      It depends on a lot of factors. Experience being number 1. After that, it would depend on your equipment/system/drawn combs to quickly move hives, extract honey, feed hives, split hives, etc. I wish I could give you a straighter answer but it could be 200-1000 colonies depending on how you manage the business, the tools you have available, and if you get some seasonal help.

I uncapped them and spun them out getting almost 2-3 gallons of honey. One question --- I put green dye in the 1-1 I was feeding them and the honey I have is tinted green now lol.... It taste sweet :) Is it safe to give away to friends???? whats the downside of sugar what in the honey if any? Thanks Joe
