Thanks for this ultra useful tutorial! Initially, the silver collar on my CON-70 wouldn't budge. Then I zapped it for a few seconds with a heat gun and it twisted off with ease.

Thank you thank you! I just bought a Metal Falcon and I love the idea of the Con-70 having a nice ink capacity, but trying to clean it was a pain and took forever. I remember seeing this video but had no need to watch it until now. Thank you again and have a happy New Year's!

Very useful. I'm having trouble filling my Pilot Con-70. This will help me dissect it and figure out what is wrong with it.

ON CLEANING, I've found the absolutely fastest way of cleaning the CON-70 converter. It's the waterpic. Use warm water and a drop of soap. Cup your hand over the open end of the barrel and spray away, it's done in less than 1 minute. More like 30 seconds.

Worked like a charm, bent paper clip and all! Thank you!

Thank you! I was able to get my CON-70 to not make everything vaguely pink!

Thanks for this. Had a mold incident I was cleaning off with MoldStat Plus and that last little bit was driving me nuts. A flat blade tweezer loosened the part you used the paperclip for. For the first time ever, I couldn't _find_ a paperclip. I greased the threads of that part, the white seal, and the metal shell in case I have to do this again. Also the section nib-holder insert threads as I had a old enough C74 that it would unscrew. Ink was trapped in between the insert and the section, and inside the threads of the converter part you unscrewed with the clip. All soaked for 10 min, should be clean for the next ink. So tired of mold.

thx! Very useful as I have several con 70 converters and was wondering how to clean them thoroughly. Instead of soaking in warm water, I wrapped rubber bands around the 2 different sections to get a good grip and twisted it open that way.

Nice. I love my Pilot C74 but the Con70 drives me nuts to clean. I'll try this next time.

I was going to try this... then, I decided to spend the $11 for a new one! Thanks for the effort, though.

I can't get the piston unscrewd even with my paper clip bent. How do you do it with so little force?

    Nice tutorial, thanks.
Would it be possible to fit the piston and inner workings on a standard international converter?
I'd like to have a con70 in my other pens

How hard is it to push that knob down? Worried about getting one, looking like a good way to bottom out your nib trying to push it in.

I don't get this design its so complicated, why not just use a one way valve and make it like a mini vacuum filler?!

How exactly does this pump ink up? Looks like a rod and a rubber stopper?

Night Traveler Another video from I think the Goulet channel (not sure that’s the full name), the guy said the trick is to immerse the nib within the ink then pump/push the piston button down quickly. This creates more pressure below the white piston seal and pushes the internal black rubber element down to seal the converter at the bottom. When you release the pump/push button it creates a vacuum between the white piston seal and the internal black rubber element. This vacuum lifts up the internal black rubber element and draws up the ink into the converter. The key bit is pushing the pump/push button down quickly at the start. Pushing it slowly will hardly create any vacuum. Hope this helps.

Absolutely awful converter, 90 percent of time doesn't work, spring is a bit hard to press, just isn't worth the hassle.
