Bruv, Ian Curtis is one of our fallen heros. His music maybe dark to some but it's the sound of an age to others.
    R.I.P. Ian.
    You are missed.

I'm 57. My best friend, Nick, was a huge Joy Division fan, and introduced me to them at the age of 13 with Unknown Pleasures. Nick was 17 when he ended his life on 18th May 1984. No one saw it coming. if we had, Im sure we could have changed things. I couldnt listen to them for quite a time after he passed. Now, I listen to Joy Division, and Im taken back to those days, before Nick died. Its a mixed emtotion experience. I often wonder what Nick would be doing now.

Geez, homie - that's rough! So sorry for your loss.😢Perhaps you and others coulda changed things if yal was aware of the darkness that plagued Nick. Maybe coulda seeked some sort of help with whatevs brought on that permanent decision. But in some cases, there isn't much that could be done. I'm not hinting that this is anything like what Nick was feeling, but there are some peeps that are just doomed from the start. 💀

My mate's father introduced me to lots of incredible bands : Einsturzende Neubauten, Throbbing Gristle, Black Flag, Siouxsie and a bunch of italian oldschool postpunk/goth and punk hc ...i wasn't aware of Joy Division but he kept telling my mate to play Joy Division for me - that their records were his favourites. I wish i could shake hands and tell him how grateful i am, Unknown Pleasures and the singles literaly changed my life. This happened in the first months of 1993 - and i am still exploring the underground scenes of the 80s from all over the world.

Such a sad story. I had a friend which had depression, we never knew, he always was smiling and never said a word about his condition, one day, he was found hanged in his bedroom, he was 18. Another person close of mine, tried to take her life 3 times, she also suffers from severe depression, again, she never shares her feelings with no one.
Please guys, if you are suffering from depression, TALK to someone, that will make you feel much better and cherish the beautiful live you have. Depression is like a curtain blocking your sight and talking is like opening this curtain letting the light come in. 😊

He was a victim of suicide due to various reasons. He had suffered from epileptic disorder and the medication at that time was very poor, plus his disorder progressively got worse overtime due to the amount of pressure from constant touring as the band became more and more successful, he had failed marriage because he accidentally fell in love with another girl, causing his wife mistreated and such.

Haha now way are you in my home town. Wish I’d have known I’d have paid you a visit. Yep, half my family are buried near Ian, I know his daughter Natalie. The shot in the movie Control of the crem where many of my friends and family went :( My mate lived next door to Ian’s house and says he woke up sometimes to crowds paying homage to Ian on anniversary’s. Very little of the film was shot here, the streets where he worked and his house are Macclesfield and a couple of other shots but other parts showing his flat was Nottingham because the flats he grew up in (Victoria) were demolished many years ago (thank god, it was a hellhole). Did make me laugh how Sam Riley and Samantha Morton spent time hanging out in pubs in Macc listening to the accents trying to get them right in time for the movie. Wished I’d have seen Samantha in the boozer - I’d have passed out from shock haha :) The employment exchange turned into the Driving Licence Test Centre. It’s harder I took my driving test. I also re created the bridge photos when I paid homage haha. It’s obligatory! The bridge is a few mins away from the site of The Russell Club where they did their first gigs

Great video !!! I love Joy Division, also love New Order. Its weird, I know but I somehow feel comforted listening to Joy Division because I know hey I am not alone, someone else feels this as well. Thank you for sharing your experiences, I got to see Ian's grave when I was in the UK in March, It was a sombre and very sad feeling seeing it.

It's so sad to think that he killed himself because of his epilepsy and how worried he was about performing and (more importantly) possibly hurting his daughter. A few years later and medication could have helped him. Great video, thank you!

The whole situation with Ian Curtis is just so heartbreaking. You can just feel his suffering, and it's very heavy.

Joy Division never got any air play in Calgary . I only knew about it because someone I knew back then listened to them . Yes, the music was very dark . I only listened to them one time. I also heard some of the elements of their music in Nirvanas music . But not to the point of the bleakness of Joy Division . The person I knew back then , took their own life on New Years Eve 1999. We used to go to high school together . He always seemed very depressed, even back then . He hung himself in a barn on the family farm .
It’s a terrible thing when someone takes their own life, especially leaving behind a child and a wife .
Those pillars of that church you were in reminded me of that ancient city of Petra . Those columns in front of what was known as “the bank”.
Thank you for yet another educational vlog . 👍👍👍
