I use Arai helmets. Not cheap but they fit my brain-housing group the best.

Pretty sure the new ECE standard is the gold standard for moto helmets.

Thankyou for sharing this with us all, I will do some research into this as well. I was not aware, until the bicycle helmet video, I just never really put much thought into it. Thank you my friend and have a blessed weekend.

As a trucker anything that has DOT in it I am already skeptical. “ As many of yall know we moved to east TX, oh look deer”😂. What was you going to say after you said “ moved to east TX” ? 😂😂😂

Yeah, I just always thought since it was what I would call expensive, it was snell approved. Since making this video, the ECE sounds like the new standard, I need to do some more research on that. I have never heard of it as far as I can recall. Thanks for watching and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.

Great video. I never thought about the difference between Snell and DOT. I did buy a good Shoei full face helmet though. I also wear all the riding gear on my Adventure bike as well with my Can Am Spyder 3-wheeler which most people riding 3 wheelers don't have much gear at all. I guess they think they can't have an accident. Good luck with the new job. I'm retired and I am thinking about getting me a part time job to help get things paid off. Keep them videos coming.

A few additional points about helmet safety that can be overlooked.
    • Helmet Size - I'm guilty of having worn a helmet that is too large. It may be more comfortable, but the foam that protects your brain from slushing around in your skull isn't as effective when the helmet is too big.
•Visibility - Being aware of your surroundings is critical to avoiding accidents. Some brands have more visibility than others, and visors, tint, and flip-down sun visors can impair sight lines.
    • Noise - Don't assume the helmet will be quiet enough to prevent hearing damage. It's not always about decibel levels, but more how long you are exposed to noise.

Fort nine did a video on helmet safety, quite entertaining. I bought three full face and 2 open face helmets, all HJC i series. Full face are snell. I try to ride to the speed of safety. I just think my leg will get pinched off before the head does from an accident. I try never to think about it. Just like swimming in the ocean. I know there are sharks 🦈 under that water line, I just hope they know I don't taste good! 😂

Helmet free option here in Pa , but I use a cheapo color matched to my KLR nevertheless.
I have a rib that still sticks out from laying my xs11 special down when I accidentally hit the gas too hard leaving a stop sign 20 yrs ago.
My belief is that if you get in a wreck and hit something solid on a moving bike, you're screwed by any measure anyway.
So yeah I wear a helmet, but WON'T wear hard core goofy looking suits or boots.
If I die I wanna look cool doin it.
    edit - and I'm cheap.

I agree on so many points of this. The Idea, I believe is making us to feel safer as the rider, but like you mentioned, you hit something solid especially if you are going any speed at all, I dont think in the end much will matter, your gonna get jacked up.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and share your thoughts with us and I hope you have a blessed week.

Having slammed my helmet into a wall at about 50 mph years ago, I survived thanks to my helmet. My neck and back didn’t do as well. I used to primarily use Shoei and Arai but todays prices are through the roof. You can pick up a used one for a couple hundred. Just make sure it’s been well cared for. As for the 6 year expiration, it’s pretty much for helmet companies continued revenue. I’ll dig up more info for you on that.

    • @Heartlanddualsport
      @Heartlanddualsport  6 місяців тому

Thank you for sharing this with us sir, I was thinking it was about a 5 year expiration simular to protective vest of sorts. My understanding is the sweat our bodies produce will break down some of the protective components and thank you for doing some more research on it. I am always trying to learn and trust me, I get it, I have never been able to afford some of those top end helmets either.
      Have a blessed weekend.

Your helpful video changed my mind from a Nexx (non Snell rated) to a HJC i10. Thanks! Question, what inexpensive comm system would you recommend that would pair with gps, phone, and maybe another rider? I ride solo normally. Thanks, and God bless, Dale!

I am glad to help brother, and to be honest on the next question, I am not sponsored by Sena, in fact, I dont know anyone who works there, however, Sena seams to be one of the more popular ones because they work so well, along with working well, kinda like an iPhone, they cost more than some. The. one I am using in this next helmet is equivalent to the Sena 10, the 20 is more poplar and the 30's are out now. I like it connects to my gps and my iPhone, so I can listen to the tunes as well as get turn by turn directions in my helmet from the gps, so that makes it really nice for me and like you 90% of the time, I am running solo. I will also say this, and this is why I wont reccomend them, I had a cheaper unit trying to save money, it would very seldom connect to my iPhone and it caused so much more frustration, that in the end, I threw the cheap affordable bluetooth unit away and bit the bullet and bought a sena because they work.
I want to say sorry for the long delay, I am normally way better at my relay and I have been experiencing some internet issues etc this spring, and currently replying via my iponone. I am so sorry for the delay and I hope you have a blessed weekend.

Great to see you again!! Snell and ECE seem to be the best helmets to have now. Unfortunatly, the price range of such helmets are way to high for many people to afford. We end up putting our heads at risk due to it.
Hope you and your wife are doing well! God Bless!

    • @Heartlanddualsport

Oh thank you so very much for the kind words, I need to do some research on the ECE, I had not heard of them until I posted this video. I so agree and that is why I mentioned the 5 helmets for testing at Virginia Tech, 5 helmets for testing is nothing to a helmet manufacturing crew, they give more away for promotional items than that, so the testing should not be a huge cost for them. I do not know what they charge for the labels though, Interesting, I will do some more research and see what I can find. Thank you so much and yes sir, we are all doing well. and I hope you and your family are doing well as well. Have a blessed weekend my friends.
