I feel like J cole's locs are fully freeform aside from getting line-ups. Me and him have a very similar hair texture and my locs are 100% free, and I have a high degree of separation between my locs. My biggest Congo after 5 years is the size of a regular dread. I feel like people who have a denser hair texture have locs that Congo up way quicker, and yeah you're right they got to separate them out more.
