I have searched high and low for this film for so long! So, my heartfelt thanks to the up-loader. I first saw this as a special telecast during our summer holiday's TV program for children on Doordarshan here in India. The story and depiction was perfect and it is still lovely to see again. I could never forget it. I'm happy UA-cam helped Ju Hatchi reach such an audience. Thankful and grateful to you both.
Dr. Kinjal Mukhopadhyay I feel that way about this too. I watched this at Christmas times when I was a little girl and the impressionable emotions that this little film left me with has stayed with me even now when I have my own daughter.
Everyone saying they would buy her matches...go sponsor a kid! We have sponsored kids though Compassion international since 1998. My Rwandan sponsored child grew up and found me on Facebook. She was seven years old when we started in 1998 and we continued her sponsorship until she graduated. She's an adult with a job, since she was able to get a good education, studying accounting, simply because we sent $30 a month that paid for her education and at least one decent meal a day. Now she is doing very well with a husband and two kids. She writes me often "hello mommy, how are you?". Never discount what one person can do if they each reach out to one. We could literally eliminate childhood poverty!
yup, this was we saw in school. I remember that it was one of my favorite stories, but now it makes me sad, obviously. funny how things change in perspective when you go from being a child to an adult.
Poor little Angel , it is heart breaking and make me want to hold her and buy all her matches or help her to sell and give her warm clothes to wear.. she was alone until she joined with her grandma in heaven, although it is written story but it reminds me of the poverty in the real world out there that we often forgotten
I only just knew about this today and it's the saddest thing I've ever seen. I felt so sorry for the little girl, her voice was so sweet, and the heartbreaking way she wished her grandma was still alive.
O M G! Like I stated in the last video I’ve been scared of this video (or atleast what I could remember) since I was like…7! But rewatching this, it’s a really sad story 😭 Although the dolls and imagery still scare me… I appreciate life a little more 🥺
Wow, when was the last time I saw this? I was in the third grade, and my teacher showed this to the class on an old film projector. And this was in 1990! My teacher showed us lots of old stuff. Another stop motion movie I remember was a story about an old Japanese/Chinese couple (not quite sure, my memory fails me) who wanted a child (something like that?) I remember something about a crane being in here. The couple finds a girl who has talent using a spinning wheel, but they are told they must not watch her work. One day they decide to watch her, and it turns out the person doing the spinning isn't a person, but a crane. I can't remember what happens after that. I've been looking for it for awhile (about as long as I've been looking for this version of "the Little Match Girl"). Does it sound familiar to anyone?
That one is called "The Crane's Magic Gift" also by Coronet Instructional Films: "This animated film tells a Japanese fairy tale about an elderly couple who rescue a crane trapped on a snow-covered mountain. As a reward for their kindness, the crane, in the form of a lovely girl, weaves a beautiful cloth for them. She becomes thinner with each weaving because she uses her own feathers to make the cloth. When her secret is discovered, she flies away in the snow." I couldn't find the film online.
I think I found the company who made these films. I can only find them in Japanese but here is a playlist, you can look through to see if it has the one you're thinking of, it does have the little mermaid. ua-cam.com/video/Y9LMaPkwp20/v-deo.html

I have searched as well. This so marked my soul when I watched it on television as a child with my Daddy.
We used to watch this film strip in grade school about once a year and a bunch of us bawled our eyes out every single time!!
Same here. I have been looking on and off for this for many many years! Glad to have finally found it. I thought I'd never see it again.
