- How to REV MATCH and HEEL & TOE
Hello all welcome back to another video!
Today's video is a bit of a different one, I'll be showing the three different ways to downshift in a manual car. Rev matching, double clutching and of course heel toeing. The reason for this video is a get asked frequently how to do it so heres a video
I hope this video proves helpful for those looking to learn and I hope you enjoy it. Don't forget to like, comment and SUBSCRIBE!
As a person that has three feet I can confirm it is very easy to rev match while braking
Holy shit if u truly were born with three functional legs i’d love to see a clip of u driving! I know some babies are actually born like that but I’ve never seen someone taking advantage of it
@@miguelajanel2332
Its pretty common
Even has its own head
As a person with 4 feet I can confirm it is very easy to rev match whilst braking and change gear without using my hands.
Bro i just use my massive shlong
How convenient. The rest of us use the dick.
03:00 rev match
03:56 double clutching
06:19 heel and toe
Love you
Thanks
Thank you
chanala jeez, I knew someone had to do this. Thank the lord.
Thank you
i like how this guy simply explains to the point everything, there is no single useless word he add to the video. Thank you very much for the info !
nutica102 thank you for the kind words!
This is a fantastic video that demonstrates not just how, but why rev matching is important. It gives three different ways of doing it and the reasons why you would do each. Well made, my man.
Likeafoxow cheers buddy!
Spent an hour going through multiple videos but this was the first one that actually properly explained it. Cheers 👍
thank you!
Exactly !!
Years later, and this is still the best video explaining rev matching & heel toe. Love your content mate! Be safe :)
Really appreciate the love and support buddy! Same to you
Your Shifts are really smooth, just learned to rev match but I want to expand on my clutch skills and you sir just helped me tremendously just by watching you, hopefully I make my 2022 Ecoboost happy 😂
Hahahha I love that! Happy motoring
the best video of rev-match I've ever watched, very well explained and best camera shown.
orestes sorrera really appreciate that man! Means a lot!!!
Yeah I agree, been trying to learn this but all other videos don’t explain or show it properly like this 👍
Damn that turbo sounds nice
been driving a manual for 15years plus , never rev matched in my life , gonna try it though.
Makes windy roads way more fun when you get good at it
Jake whys that?
Jack Perry makes it less jerky, more rewarding and a lot smoother and faster! And saves your clutch 🤣
It's never too late to learn mate
I think its unnecessary. But if it stops the drive from being boring. Then why not!
So far this is the best video I've seen on downshifting - when you finally got into it! Well done!
Thanks bro! Appreciate it!
Double clutching in a turbo allows you to spool up the turbo for some extra boost, but won't give any performance gain with a normally aspirated engine.
Finally a video where you showed us slowly! Everyone always shows their foot work but it’s always too fast and they don’t explain it!! Thank you!
Ana Queen thank you for the comment!
Right because I just started & I'm pretty much on my own
“Granny shifting, not double clutching like you should” 😂
ironically enough, if your grandma drives she probably knows how to double clutch
@@MT-kx2uc Double clutch wears less on the synchro gear if you're jumping down two gears instead of just one. It isn't required on modern cars between every shift, but a good habit when doing leaps down say from fourth to second after slowing down to go into a turn.
what's the difference?
@@thonycarbastillada1357 when you double clutch you put the gear in neutral and let the revs begin to drop for a second, then as you're slipping into the next gear you more or less select the rpm you want with footwork so the gear mesh fast. If you don't then the synchro mesh gears are compensating for the speed difference and getting your car into the selected gear when you let off the clutch. Back in the day we didn't have synchro so this was to extend the life of the transmission
@@GuardDog42 I mean what's the difference between Granny shifting and double clutching? I'm confused.
Cheers. Currently taking driving lessons and I experienced that bit of slowdown when I go into a lower gear quite often. My instructor never really mentioned it so I figured that was normal. Definetly gonna play around with these techniques sometime.
Obviously wore the suit just for the video 😂
just started learning how to drive a manual and this video proved very helpful! im excited. thanks man
adza botchway thank you buddy!
I learnt rev matching from you man! Great video! And I love how you still reply to the comments even after 3 years, thanks and cheers!
59 years old, been driving a manual for most if my driving years but mostly just trucks and low performance vehicles. Since by my first performance vehicle, knew it was time to up my skills, been scouring UA-cam in search of a video that covers it all, yours is easily the first and best to really make it simple fir an old bastard like me. Great job, thanks for putting this video together. Fingers crossed you can in fact still teach an old dog new tricks!!!
Glad i could help! Happy motoring
This was by far the most informative video I’ve watched on driving standard transmission.
rebellaxbro cheers buddy
Quite honestly the best rev matching explanation video I’ve seen. Great video and nice socks!
Carlos Barraza appreciate it buddy! Thank you very much
Dude...why was this video 1000 times more effective at teaching me then any other video I’ve watched. It was a perfect how to vid in my opinion
Ryan’s Views thanks buddy!
I gotta stop smoking weed man I know how to do all of this it's 1 am I'm goin to bed
Let us know how quitting is going! Praying for you dude :)

Cancer hippie ,
The best video I've watched about rev matching. Thank you.
Mihai Mike thank you buddy
Ok.... After watching that I realised dad taught me rev matching when learning 18 years ago and Ive been doing it all along. The rest though was super informative thanks heaps!
Sean T thanks dude! Really appreciate it
For barely driving stick for only three months after driving auto for 10 years. This video is the best. Most videos people step way too fast. This video was helpful.
Very helpful video thank you! I never really understood what rev matching or double clutching meant still even after watching other explanation videos but now I do. Thanks
hey thanks for the vid and explaining the rev matching. Never bothered with it all till now and wow it makes a difference.
Daniel R no problem at all! Thank you for watching!
Thanks for taking the time to show new drivers of manual cars how to properly rev-match. The heel and toe method does seem as it would be helpful. Plus, double-clutching; I had heard of the term before, but never knew exactly what it meant (F&F wasn't where I first heard about double-clutching.)
Joshua Rowland thank you for the nice words dude! Hopefully this proves useful
that 3 feet example was very funny as well as relevant XD thanks for the knowledge
haven't drove manual on the road yet but as soon as i do best believe im gonna learn these, cheers bro
Edit: Been learning for 4 months now and should have my license in a few weeks and im ready to go crazy practicing these on my own
Thanks for this, I’ve always wanted to drive manual and this helped a lot
Great video! Very thorough explanations and easy to understand! Thanks!!
I sympathize how difficult it is show/explain to others. I have mastered that skill from my early driving life and it comes automatically when Iam driving a manual car. It is good for the vehicle and I get a thrill from the sound that comes from exhaust when doing it. Thanks for video, it is well explained
cheers man!
Great video, amazing demonstration. Well done!
Ilija cheers buddy!!!
Best video I've seen on this topic. Thanks you, Sir.
I just got my first manual car and I'm excited to try your method of rev matching. I feel as it will improve my shifting smoothness.
Thank you a lot :)
first started the video thinking you were a dbag but you are so clear and chill thanks for the vid!
Great video👍🏻 finally someone who can explain the benefits of rev-match. I have even learned it myself with your help☝🏼
Ask him how his cars been going recently ;)
bigheadscfc what do you mean?
Cheers buddy!
Thanks for the helpful tips so you just clutch in and rev as you change gear up or down will test it in my GR Yaris on my next drive. 👍
A really instructive video. Videos on driving techniques from you tubers should be more common, I really enjoy them
you actually explained this well, good vid mate
I like your tie. Great video.
I needed this explanation, well done!
He shifts with absolute class
Hahahaha thank you
This is neat. I learned new driving skill today
Thanks buddy
You explained rev matching far better then anyone else on this app
Absolute class video
Well done, excellent job!! Great video for people to learn.
Thank you!
I taught myself how to drive my manual Honda Fit, and maybe I should've looked this up beforehand lol. I've definitely been carried by synchro. I should start trying to be nicer to my car 😅
Thanks for the video, was really informative
Dat Merc in the background at the start of the video though ❤️❤️❤️ Ispiri wheels look sick!
YourTransformationUK yes it does. Let’s get your car on the channel bro! This weekend?
thanks so much bro that helps alot u deserve more subs!
WOW, this was really helpful, thanks bro!
Tip for those learning heel and toe; rotate the way you sit slightly so your braking foot, and knee are pointing left. That way you'll be able to cover your brake and accelerator easier whilst learning.
Thanks for this !!
Thanks because your video is really helpful
Great video my guy!
Great video. You really teach how to do it.
1188jv thank you buddy!
great video!
Big Iron thanks
nice explanation really nice, helped a lot of people i see
Pet comments bullshit as they didn’t watch the intro...
Great explanation brother
That turbo sound really good
Thank you, very useful!
Damn i actually learned alot from this thank you
Jymjy Lobaton thanks buddy!
Fantastic class
You’d think driving instructor would teach you this 🤨
Cries in american education system
@@jackvanepps7301 lol. my state didnt even require learning manual for a license.
It's rare to learn manual from a driving instructor in America. Mostly is someone's parents. In my case, my boyfriend turned husband taught me how to drive manual on the first car we purchased. And now im teaching our kids. They're required to learn manual before automatic. Cuz automatic Is for chumps 🤣
Lol I asked mine to teach me and he said “I think that’s for race cars only”
@@alim.587 I think everyone should learn how to drive in general starting on an Automatic. Get’s them used to the road before they start taking out the Manual on the road. I’m glad I did it this way
I bought a new Nissan 370Z sport coupe 6MT that has the Synchro Rev Match feature but I don't use it, manual rev matching is more satisfying. I usually use heel and to do rev-matching when I'm slowing down to save wear and tear on the synchro rings.
Enjoyed the video! Btw, what exhaust are you running on your Type R? Sounds good!
Very helpful !!!
Good vid!💯

Great video definitely helping me out & I love home simple you keep it. The only thing is it’d be good to see your camera a bit lower so we could see your hand shifting but also to have a mic on you so we could hear you a bit better
Jan. 10th, 2023. RE: Driving a manual shift car ... 'Heel and Toe' method to downshift.
Decades ago, I was with a girl in upstate NY on some nice winding mountain roads. I was driving a Chrysler, PT Cruiser, manual ... A 'Red' PT Cruiser, lol. (I'm 'cool' right?) The road was changing. I was coming to a yellow road sign, indicating a short hard left, 10 MPH ... It was the beginning of a very short, blind, 'S' curve, and downhill at that. I was doing maybe 30-35 MPH and slowed really quickly, using heel and toe, a technique I had become totally in-one with. Seeing the 1st yellow sign, '20 mph' I was mindlessly setting to downshift.
A mostly straight road had now tightened into short left, right, left turns ... and from uphill, it had become flat, and now became, what turned out to be a triple S curve, all in maybe 120 feet, This was unseen to us, maybe a 'sign' was missing, maybe I just wasn't paying full attention ... and now the road was suddenly descending. The sun had set some time ago, but it wasn't completely dark yet. I entered this 'getting-tighter' S curve ...
I was just downshifting (heel and toe) into 3rd gear, as she sounded the alarm, ... There's a 'stop sign' and a cross-road in just some feet.
In my mind, I imagined a 'T' intersection ... with an 18 wheeler about to cross the 'T', lol
Feeling a 'start' in my heart, I immediately continued the downshifts ... It was bam, bam, bam, all downshifts, all the way into 1st gear, but smooth as silk. (As she sounded the alarm, I was lucky to be in a short, but straight part of the 'S' curve) ... The downshifts were instantaneous, as tho they were ONE ... I finished the maneuver, but never stopped the car ... We were so short of the stop sign, that the curve in the road still had it not in sight. I let the car roll from that point, ...
A bit of fear had me react with muscle-memory. The danger was there, .. and gone just as quickly.
What had started barely 2 seconds ago as an Urgent moment, descended almost instantaneously into a cool summer breeze, lol ... She went 'WOW' !!! ...
Still in a slow roll (in my Red PT Cruiser) ... I looked at her ... hesitated a bit ... and said:
... 'Bond' ... she had a puzzled look on her face ... James Bond !
Mate you camera is amazing
I can rev match but now it's time to move on to double clutching and hopefully i can master the heel and toe, heel and toe is quite challenging for me but maybe it means i need to improve my muscle mind connection so i can control my right foot better.
Thank you for this video, this has finally given me enough courage to try to turn off auto rev matching on my Type R. Is it ok that I practice with it on before I turn it off? I have only been driving a manual for 2 years now and I think I'm ready to try this! I bought this car with no knowledge of driving a manual transmission. Easy car to learn on for sure, but the snow didn't help make it any easier lol
Yes you can!
Great vid thanks. I suggest white shoes for the next one though :)
Good video
Thank you
Fantastic

@@realtorque Bro, my car stalls during the 1st gear shift. How to maintain our car in idle rpm ie above 1000. I'm driving by clutch in 2nd gear because of this is it safe ?
on my bike i switch the rev and downshift parts. I pull the clutch in, downshift(clutch still in), rev, then let go of clutch. Would i be doing it wrong or is there no difference if i were to do that in a car
thanks mate
When rev matching do you still get engine breaking say you downshift from 3rd to 2nd? Like there will be no jerk but it kinda slows down right because of engine break?
while doing rev matching while shifting from 4th to 3rd should we do like put in neutral then rev and then downshift to 3rd or press the cluth rev and then put to 3rd
nice video
Glare thanks dude
Nice
Ima try and learn to double clutch
03:15 you mean from 4th to 3rd? Haha anyway very awesome informative video, thank you very much! :)
I have a question, is it OK to downshift put it into lower gear, blip the throttle then let out clutch? That's how I do it.
So when you rematch, do you rev it when it is technically in neutral?
Thank you!!!! I know know how to do this...... in GTSPORT
do you rev before or after changing gear?
dude...nice explications ;) no words left :D
Great job of explaining these techniques, I learned a lot! Thank you!
Thanks man
