This is the kind of review I appreciate-no wild claims or "snake oil" promises, just a solid introduction to the headphones and Meze as a brand. More content like this, please!
Thanks and hope you will do more headphone reviews. I was at the most recent CanJam and aside from the mass number of younger people present, there was also a significant older population who, though still into speaker centric systems, are either returning to audiophile headphone listening or, are getting into it for the first time. I'm sure a survey could help to find out how many of your viewers also listen a lot via headphones.
I think there are a lot of people that, like me, really enjoy speakers but can't use them because of their living situation. Hearing about headphones from somebody that usually does speaker reviews would be great!
One of the very best Headphone Reviews I have come across on UA-cam. Still, I would prefer Headphone Reviews restricted to once in a while for Variety sake.
Please consider doing a review of the SPL 800 amplifier from Germany. SPL is not that well known outside of professional sound engineers/studios , as that is who they have always catered to. The price is a bit on the high side but thats due to them being made entirely IN Germany where high labor cost and taxes exist. i'm interested in an Arendal 1723 , SPL 800 Performer pairing .
@@Jayiyagi well it is not really comparable as the Hifi shop used a Lehmann ampli, I use the Ifi go blu. I can only say that after so many positive reviews I saw about Meze that I was disappointed. My Focal are more detailed and more dynamic in my view, but I am not an expert to explain the pros and cons However under the same conditions with the same song I might have come to a different result.
Great set of headphones! After trying numerous more expensive amp pairings (including Burson), I ultimately came to the conclusion these sounded phenomenal with a simple Schiit Modi/Magni stack. Perfect pairing, zero fatigue while plenty of detail and bass. Between the sound and comfort, could now wear these on my head for hours. Lovely headphone experience.
I just learned that you were studying biologie before, i didn’t know this was your background, i myself am in medical analysis and we do lots of microbiology and biochemistry ! Haha in summary i’m a laboratory technician for medical analysis 🤣 Have you done a lot of biochemistry during your studies ?
Would love to see more headphone reviews and equipment like dongle DACs. Back when you worked in sales you sold me a pair of LCD-2 Classics which I am still enjoying.
More headphone reviews are a good thing. I have the Meze 109 Pro and think they are excellent in terms of sound, build, and comfort. They are also easy to drive. No crazy amp needed.
Great review. But I have to ask... how loud is loud? I mean you say that the headphones are not fatiguing at lower/normal listening, but can be fatiguing when listening to louder volumes. Could you give an example? Thx.
I'm fine with whatever you want to review. If it floats your boat. And more importantly gets you the stats that you are after. If this review underperforms then move on. If it gets you tons of views, then you might want to do some more. The Sennheiser is heavily discounted on Amazon right now by the way. $290
so it's transparent and detailed with good enough bass for any non-basshead while more uplifting/vibrant sounding than HD600? can get bright/harsh/fatiguing if turned up volume with solid state amp.
Hey Jay! When are you going to post the review of the PS Audio FR5's? Wanted to attend the Toronto show this weekend to hear them, but cannot make it now, so I am awaiting your review before I order them in for audition.
Why not? Adding headphones to the mix just gives you more to talk about. But I must admit if I see a pair of $4000.00 headphones I will probably shut off the computer and go out to cut the lawn. Thanks
It is rare that someone reviews headphones and speakers on UA-cam with the same credibility. Sometimes I think those are two completely different types of audiophiles. (Speaker design virtuoso Danny Richie had no clue what he was talking about in his headphones „review“ 😀) I would definitely appreciate more headphone reviews from you.
How is the bass as far as clarity? I’m asking because I saw some measurements of these and there is an uptick of distortion from 100hz and below. I’m looking to upgrade or have a different set of headphones from my Beyerdynamic DT1990 pros. ( of course I use EQ to take out the 8khz peak and they sound wonderful this way). The only thing holding me back from the Meze 109 is that measured distortion down in the low freq. Thanks in advance as you are one of the few channels I really like. Cheers ! Btw I listen mainly to classical and jazz so I like detailed bass. I don’t listen to electronic music at all.
I considered these, and bought them! They are beautifully made, and sound fantastic. I've been having a lot of fun late night jamming out. Pair them with good gear and they reward you!
Hi Jay, from France ,love your content and sinceriry; I reallly feel I get the honest opinion here. YES I would love more headphones revieuw. All the best Franck
Jay have you ever reached out to Zach at ZMF???…….it would seem to me that his sonic profiles and signatures (ZMF’s) are “right up your alley” with their combination of warmth and naturalness of tone, combined with good three dimensionality, detail, and air. Certainly you have heard of the Caldera planars, or the now famous Atrium dynamics. I find head audio and speaker audio to be complimentary experiences and that they inform each other as it can relate to the “truth” of the music as we subjectively experience it. Yes! Please continue to review head audio products!! Check out ZMF!!!
I love my Meze 109s, currently running them on a Bifrost 2/64 / Topping A70 Pro stack (waiting for Lyr+ to arrive atm). They're the perfect blend of Aesthetics, Repairability, Comfort and General Sound Signature for me currently. My only slight nit-picks are I wish vocals were a touch more forward in their presentation along with the soundstage being a step or two forward, on odd occasions drums and even vocals can sound a little "in my head" instead of slightly in front as I'd expect.
GM ☕️🍩🦃🦃🦃🦃 Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Yup,I prefer speakers ..but headphone makes me happy ,primarily because of not requiring a room . Chill’n with the set up Bryston BHA-1 Headphone/Preamp. Denafrips Ares 12-1 DAC LCDX 2021 Creators Edition 🎧 Looking forward to “Earvanafest” at Toronto Audiofest next weekend. Have a great week.
Jay things aren't 'more better', 'more heavier' , 'more brighter' or 'more greater'. heavier means more heavy, brighter means more bright. one thing is good, the other is better. the third is EVEN better. with so much nuanced audiophile jargon, its important to communicate precisely and eloquently.
There are plenty of headphones hifi reviewers. Please continue to focus on Stereo two channel hifi reviews. Let other, mostly young guys, focus on headphones/ headphones amp/dacs. Also, let other, usually 40-55 year old guys focus on multichannel home theater reviews. Jay, you are a rarity. You're the under 40 (more like under 30) young man with extensive listening experience of his end speakers and components for two channel rigs. Stay the course, You're doing great work for our community. Thanks
Oops! I must have missed the disclaimer 'this video for millionaires only'. $900 for a set of phones is ridiculous, obscene, insane, and I could go on and on. I do dj work, and also edit music. Guaranteed that these phones are NOT significantly better than the $70 Bluetooth phones I purchased at the world's largest on-line retailer. I don't have to hear them. $900 is just plain SILLY!
Sounds like you're a bottom tier dj. I'v been DJing for 25 years and I have these headphones and many more expensive ones. It's an investment on your DJing career, that's how I see it. It's like any other gear like your mic. Or does your $25 mic sound just as good to you as my Neumann? You'll get there

You should def do more headphone reviews! More content from you is a win!
We need more speaker reviewers do headphone reviews and comparisons
Love my Meze 109 Pro cans. Use them with my Schiit Lyr+ and a Ray Reserve tube, or NOS RCA.
FiiO FT1 is the budget king!
I’m all for bringing back headphone reviews. Your review was one of the reasons I bought the Hifiman Edition X v2.
I'm more interested in headphone myself. An increase in headphone reviews would be amazing!
Yeaaaaaa!!!!
One of the very best Headphone Reviews I have come across on UA-cam.

I tried the Meze 109 pro, I actually prefer my Focal Celestee and I use it every day
cool! do you mind articulating what you preferred about the focals?

Have you done a lot of biochemistry during your studies ?
a few classes but my background is mostly neuroscience
Great review! Yes please, more head phone reviews. More head-fi reviews as a matter of fact 😊
Yea
Really intrigued, top of the head hot spot is my major gripe for most headphones..
Yay for sure 🎉
Peaking at that 1528.
that bookshelf looks ginormous doesn't it
They look yummy af.. The old 1723 thx monitor was huge 😂😉
Would love to see more headphone reviews and equipment like dongle DACs.
Back when you worked in sales you sold me a pair of LCD-2 Classics which I am still enjoying.
Yay.
A couple of Dominique Fils-Aimé albums prominently on display.
Her entire collection is awesome.
More headphone reviews are a good thing. I have the Meze 109 Pro and think they are excellent in terms of sound, build, and comfort. They are also easy to drive. No crazy amp needed.
More headphone reviews please.
109 pro is now on my radar. Thanks for the review.
Hd800s also works excellent with crossfeed on my mojo 2.
Yay moore headphones!

Yes to headphone reviews. Also an early thank-you for covering the "Toronto Audio Fest" as i am unable to attend.
Nice review jay! You should do more headphone reviews but i cant wait for you to review those bookshelves at the back😅
Hey Jay! When are you going to post the review of the PS Audio FR5's? Wanted to attend the Toronto show this weekend to hear them, but cannot make it now, so I am awaiting your review before I order them in for audition.

Btw I listen mainly to classical and jazz so I like detailed bass. I don’t listen to electronic music at all.
Not more headphones reviews.
Yes, Jay, more headphone reviews. And along with them, more headphone amp reviews.
Thanks Jay!
Meze has one of the best overall general tunings
Yes more headphone reviews, please! 😊
yay for headphones - always good to have options
There's a lot of options on headphones and headphone amps, so I think it's a great addition on this channel.
I see a product i am very curious behind you.
I listened to the 99 classic, it sounded good but my millimeter long hair combined with the headband made every head move produce sound in the cups.
I considered these, and bought them! They are beautifully made, and sound fantastic. I've been having a lot of fun late night jamming out. Pair them with good gear and they reward you!
HEADPHONES??? Unsubscribed!! Jk this is a nice change of pace and looking forward to SPL component reviews 😉
Hi Jay, from France ,love your content and sinceriry; I reallly feel I get the honest opinion here. YES I would love more headphones revieuw.

Franck
A little variety such as including unique headphones is great
yay
Crossfeed not crosstalk.
Yay 🥳
My favorite open back headphones that I own. Sound and comfort.
Pro tip, get the Dekoni Elite Fenestrated pads. Better comfort, better sound, better looking, just better all around.
To answer your question. Yes. Absolutely. More headphone reviews please. 😊

Personally I think you should stick to hifi and leave headfi in the past. Your channel really came alive once you started doing speakers.
More videos reviewing headphones, please

"be eloquently" is grammatically incorrect. It should be speak eloquently or be eloquent. What are you??? The grammar nazis lol😁😁
