when y’all told me beiste was trans i thought she was a trans woman 😭 glees got me mad fucked up im almost done with season four but then someone said beiste was a trans MAN i got so confused. dude i had this nice storyline planned in my head of beiste and unique having a good talk or some shit, but beiste is a man? if this was real life i wouldn’t have any second thoughts at all on beiste’s identity, but it just feels like it wasn’t handled very well at all?? i dont know i’m just very upset, this was not the way i thought the story was going...
I absolutely hated this storyline. Beiste had a wonderful story about how she hated how people didn’t treat her like a girl. How it hurt her when people didn’t recognize her as a girl but always as “one of the guys”. It was a great storyline for girls who may not appear as feminine as others. Then they go and make it the stereotype of “she doesn’t check the common boxes of femininity so she MUST be a guy”.
IrishYTG beiste says "punkin" as a sign of affection, It's kind of a simpler way of calling him "pumpkin", but it's also meant to have more affection to it than "pumpkin" would have.
I was legit so upset before this when Beiste said he has cancer. Sure, this was a relief, but it made me so mad, coz they just took his character development and threw it all away.
I love Coach Beaste. She became more and more confident throughout the show and now she has the courage to do what she’s always wanted to do. Good for her. I mean it. Everyone should do what they have to do to be comfortable with themselves, as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone.
Since everyone is confused; Basically Coach Beiste always wanted to feel like a woman because he's attracted to men and most men he's attracted to are straight. He always thought he needed to stay a woman, but he always felt like a man deep down. People can still be attracted to the opposite gender while wanted to change into the opposite gender.
Ill admit the lying about cancer was a bit much. But i love this moment so much. And i love the other subtle message that isn't obviously there, but that its never too late to be who you are and who you want to be. Be it age 21 or age 43, its never too late. (Idk their age but i picked numbers randomly of young and older)
This storyline doesn’t make sense! Through I like how they treated transexuality, they could have done this on another new character, or not at all. Coach beiste always was a great character because (s)he showed us that having masculine attitudes doesn’t mean that you are less woman. And they throw it all away... think that they did that to have an impact about this delicate topic, but in my opinion they did it wrong
Him getting his top surgery and testosterone within a week of therapy is so funny seeing as most of the time it takes years because of how much the medical system hates trans people and tries to bar them from any and all procedures they need
im trans and shows typically offer shit representation but glee actually managed to make some great trans rep with beiste and unique!! however, it feels like a lazy writing choice, like they couldn't keep up with the "masculine and strong woman" thing. this could've been so much better if there was foreshadowing, and we actually saw signs of beiste being trans earlier on throughout the show but we didn't, because it was obviously an unplanned decision.
Everybody’s saying they didn’t like this, but I don’t think they realized that he thought he was a tomboy and he didn’t regret everything he’s been through as a women. Yes, this came out of nowhere, but I don’t think it was the worst storyline glee came out with (I’m not trans myself, so I’m no expert in this, and I’m not trying to act like one)
I respect the decision that they decided to make beiste trans, but I agree with people when they say that it came out of nowhere, in the earlier seasons, specifically the episode where Brittany still believed in Santa, beiste has said that although she may look huskier than other woman, she still feels like a girl and I’ve always thought it was nice to have someone portraying that characteristic in the show, so making beiste trans kind of discarded all those moments of beiste accepting that it was okay that she wasn’t like everybody else
Am I the only one who thought that coach beiste was trans mtf. Like literally coach beiste literally said to Mr shooster "you make me feel like a REAL girl" and "I'm a GIRL inside" plus loads of other stuff. When I saw this scene I thought it would be estrogen but when I heard testosterone I was SO confused tbh.
The friendship that Sheldon has with sue is so touching, like the stripped moment where beiste tells sue and rozz that cooter hit him. the friendship, the love they feel for each other is just just touching
yes sue was a bully but she never once hated someone for who they were. she just picked on their insecurities. making fun of kurt for being gay, but never once actually criticizing that lifestyle. she never tried to change him. she was never racist, was always supportive underneath all of that... cruelty
This storyline was rushed. Beiste speak was everything. Couldn't help Love Sue. Her statement's are everything. You don't about having cancer unless you wanted to get out of jury duty or explain a bad hair cut lol.
This was forced, this wasnt the original opening plot for Season 6, after the Finn actor passed away, they had to rewrite the entire last season. And this was one of those "out of thin air" stories that got written in. The actress had no clue beforehand until they were on set, that means it was a last minute decision.
The line 'I'm glad I was a woman' made me feel like they never talked to transgender people in general; let alone for this storyline. It feels like they are patting themselves on the back for being diverse whilst being transphobic. Reminds me of their biphobia throughout the whole show really. 'Look at all our gays in our show! Ignore the fact we hate bisexuals for no reason. We are the diverse show!' It is sad that a show that has some great moments for the L and G people had such problems with respecting the other parts of the rainbow nation.
And when you think about how they treated Unique vs Beiste (and honestly all of the Black women on the show), it does not look good. I wish they focused more on Unique and her journey instead of just making Beiste trans out of the blue. We absolutely need more trans representation, especially positive representation, but forcing it definitely isn’t the way to do it.
To All the transgenders ind this threat - I am, though being a stranger, very proud of you all, being what you wish to be and feel like. I do not judgement Any of you guys. Be what you want to be, and feel my acceptance and support. 👍✌️
I agree that this plot was a bit absurd with this character throughout the story that we saw but I feel like this whole plot at the same time was extremely important looking at a world view that we have today. he explaining to sam that he is a gay man, they have genuine doubts that people STILL have today, the support he receives at work. later on when sam starts to learn about pronouns, this is all so 2021???! people still disrespect a lot of things when it comes to trans people and seeing a show so big with young people in 2014/15 talking about it, it is still very important. i remember this was one of the first contacts i had about transsexuality!! of course it could have been treated in a much better way but I am happy that we think so because it means that we have take some steps ahead as a society
"it's were your outsides don't match to how you feel on the inside" wow...that is...deeply relatable to me irl...and i just know im going to get flooded with a tone of transphobic idiots TwT but this is deeply relatable tho
For the people who are saying this is a stupid storyline becuase the character has always said your still a female even if you don't meet all necessary requirements of feminine, number 1 he could have been lying to himself afraid of what society would think or maybe he didn't fully understand who he was yet, everyone life's and stories are different we shouldn't judge people and should instead embrace them and accept them
Yeah, but the point of coach Beiste's character is that she could be a non feminine woman and still be pretty in her own right. By making the character transition is undoing all the work that has gone into making beiste happy.
Moments like these are why Sue was better than Will. Don't get me wrong, with the amount of people she tripped/pushed down stairs as well as various other things, she deserved to get fired. But so did he. Him getting rewarded in the end was pretty gross.
okay, at fist I didn’t like this storyline but I think I finally get it.. cause you see, at first I hated it cause I thought her character was all about women who feel like women but don’t act like society wants them to. but now I feel like all of the times he said he actually felt like a lady were lies.. so that’d explain it. otherwise it’s just the writers trying to fit everything in their last season lol
Commenters: just because you didn't like this story line doesn't mean you can misgender bieste!! He still identifies as a man whether you like it or not. It may seem like it isn't consistent with his character arc but i imagined it as he was over correcting before by trying to be feminine to feel like a girl when he knew he didn't feel like one. But yeah they pretty much didn't plan this at all, still cool to have multiple trans characters in a show!!
@Gan Len yep but it's transphobic so im saying that you shouldn't. If you're gonna be transphobic why are you watching clips of a show like glee in the first place :)
@Gan Len you can disagree with the story choice but that doesn't mean you should misgender him?? If one of your friends dyed their hair blonde and you didn't like it, would you continue saying and acting like they have brown hair? I don't think it made much sense for the story either, but that doesn't mean I'm going to completely ignore that it happened and purposefully misgender bieste.
@Gan Len so if you saw someone with pink hair you would say they have brown hair?? Seriously?? You as born with a sex, but you aren't born with a gender. Sex is biological, gender is a social construct similar to class or race. Clearly this was never about you "disagreeing with the writing" and just about you literally being transphobic, which asks the question what you're doing watching a show like glee that actively supports it's trans characters? I know I can't convince you, I'm just a stranger on the Internet, but please educate yourself on what being transgender truly is. Instead of spreading hate, try to understand others. Science isn't on your side.
It's tricky though bc like a lot of trans people still see themselves as their old gender before they actually do anything, it seems like they were in the early stages and hadn't taken any action yet so idk. It's probably different for everyone anyway tbf
Holly fuck no joke im really saying this with a straight face and thank god i watched this because i can relate to bestie... ive always been telling my friends that i was supposed to be a gay male but they just laughed it off witch hurt me as i was telling them how i truly felt...i am a girl who is attracted to males but i know in my heart that i want to be a boy but the fact that i am attracted to guys will never change...but now i dont say anything about it anymore because i thought i was just confused and i was afraid that my friends will keep on making fun of me...
Glee may have been the most ridiculous and comedically dumb show I’ve ever watched but boy did they get LGBTQIA+ issues perfectly right and addressed it so well. Santana and britneys relationship? Perfect, blaine and kurt? Great, Santana coming out and dealing with her sexuality? I might as well be looking in the mirror cause me too girl 😭
Why do I remember an episode when Beiste tells Will that she was born a man, but she knew she was a woman? I never completely watched season 6 of Glee & probably never will because it just should’ve ended after 5 instead of giving us a train wreck. I just feel like this storyline about Beiste was forced.
Where the hell are you getting this made up story from? I've seen a few comments of it. Dot-Marie Jones isn't trans. I googled it to make sure I wasn't wrong before commenting.
They did this because the Character was androgynous or wasnt like every other woman so ofc, they flip it into meaning she doesnt fit in cause shes not really a woman. Predictable ..
This storyline is really freaking stupid, Beiste always was the woman who didn’t fit gender roles, her arc was her becoming strong and independent emotionally while keeping her badassness high, here nothing is really solved, it is just Beiste following gender roles
I don’t like that they made beiste trans. His storyline of being a masculine woman but still being a woman was really good. We love the trans rep tho 😊
I hate this storyline. Beiste’s character always showed that you’re still a girl, even if you don’t meet all the requirements of “feminine”. What this storyline did was contradict that and say “Oh you’re not feminine, obviously you’re a man
I’m a trans guy and I whole heartedly agree. I don’t want any more tomboys transitioning only to detransition, realizing they made the wrong choice. I am so sad that cis people end transitioning. It’s depressing to think about because they become how I felt before I transitioned. Tomboys might look at this as them being transgender, when it’s not.
Ky'm Young is Crackhead_ Mentality I’m not trans but I’ve done research on trans issues including detransitioning and yes, people detransition but it’s a difficult process especially if you’re a girl who transitioned to being a guy because of the effects taking testosterone has on your voice, it’s kind of irreversible.
I’m a transgender man and I hate seeing trans men portrayed in tv shows as they always get them wrong, however this is the only show that did it right so I’m grateful for that. BUT this was a stupid idea. I get that glee has always been a forward thing show and I love that about it but coach being trans came out of no where. And I liked the fact that she was very masculine while also being a woman. By making her trans the creators are basically reinforcing the stereotype that if you’re a masculine woman you’re actually a man. Meh idk. Just my thoughts.
I don't think having a trans guy come out as a trans guy is reenforcing any stereotype. If anything this is breaking the stereotype that you have to know you're trans from a young age and actively feel like you were meant to be a man all along.
Didn't like this storyline. Bieste was a wonderful character. This was unnecessary, out of left field, and it reinforced the false idea that if you're not a feminine enough as a woman, you must really be a man.
I really felt that way too. Actually the actress herself didn’t want this. She was very supportive of transgenders but she didn’t want girls to think that if they’re not feminine they should be men instead.
I'm confused because in the other seasons his whole issue was how he was a woman who didn't fit into society's standard of a woman. His whole character was supposed to show that you don't have to fit into gender norms.
Making Coach Bieste a transgender was by far one of the most forced story lines of Glee. Like, there was literally no point in them doing it. They really ruined her character by trying to make this story line work & it just didn't.
The whole point of him character was so show that you can be beautfiul without being beautfiul. And I completely support trans people and their journey... but it's called a journey for a reason. Not a, wake up a man tomorrow because you just have to be too masculine to be a girl.
"It's NOT who I want to go to bed with. It's who I want to go to bed as"

This show did such a good job at making light of difficult conversations and topics. Way ahead of its time.
when y’all told me beiste was trans i thought she was a trans woman 😭 glees got me mad fucked up im almost done with season four but then someone said beiste was a trans MAN i got so confused. dude i had this nice storyline planned in my head of beiste and unique having a good talk or some shit, but beiste is a man? if this was real life i wouldn’t have any second thoughts at all on beiste’s identity, but it just feels like it wasn’t handled very well at all?? i dont know i’m just very upset, this was not the way i thought the story was going...
*he
I absolutely hated this storyline.
Jane Lynch is queen
These three are my favorite characters❤️❤️
When Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) said that Coach Beiste (Dot-Marie Jones) has his job waiting for him, it made me tear up
I like that she was supportive in her own way
What does Bieste call Sam? Pumpkin? Before he explains what it is?
IrishYTG beiste says "punkin" as a sign of affection, It's kind of a simpler way of calling him "pumpkin", but it's also meant to have more affection to it than "pumpkin" would have.
Noticed in one episode I watched recently she also called Puck it too. Thanks :)
Puck, finn and sam
It was her way of calling her favourite students.
She also calls Emma that way
I really like how they handled this
I was legit so upset before this when Beiste said he has cancer. Sure, this was a relief, but it made me so mad, coz they just took his character development and threw it all away.
Thank you, for even though you don’t like how they handled the storyline, you still correctly gender Beiste
At 1:56 that looks Sue gives is Pricele$$!!!!
I love Coach Beaste. She became more and more confident throughout the show and now she has the courage to do what she’s always wanted to do. Good for her. I mean it. Everyone should do what they have to do to be comfortable with themselves, as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone.
He *
Since everyone is confused; Basically Coach Beiste always wanted to feel like a woman because he's attracted to men and most men he's attracted to are straight. He always thought he needed to stay a woman, but he always felt like a man deep down. People can still be attracted to the opposite gender while wanted to change into the opposite gender.
He became Mr. Bieste!
I told sue that it was a lie sue what got me dead tho 😂
This story line doesn’t make any sense but alright.
“ so your ugh.. like a lesbian?” i love sam wtf 😭
They should have done this with unique
Even that Sue has done bad things, she is a good person
Yeah I thought that too
Looool at Sue's comments... they are ridiculous but so funny😂
Beastie is so right. That is so nice, she'll make a respectful exit and a way to become who she wants to be.
Stop misgendering him, and do some research and you'll learn it's not a case of wanting.
Bestie later kills herself because sex changes put her 50% more likely to do that.
The friendship that Sheldon has with sue is so touching, like the stripped moment where beiste tells sue and rozz that cooter hit him.
the friendship, the love they feel for each other is just just touching
Use his correct pronouns or don't talk about him at all.
@@spaceunicorn8137 that grammar was a mistake, I did mean to refer to beiste as he, not her.
@@caitlinireland4396 You don't have to make excuses, just correct it.
@@spaceunicorn8137 ok, but technically, beiste was a her at that point, so I think she/her still applies. But I'll correct it anyway
@@caitlinireland4396 He uses he/him now, so what he was in the past is irrelevant.
yes sue was a bully but she never once hated someone for who they were. she just picked on their insecurities. making fun of kurt for being gay, but never once actually criticizing that lifestyle. she never tried to change him. she was never racist, was always supportive underneath all of that...
Lying about Cancer was way too far
Kim Tucker
If you say so.
Ryan murphy deserves to get called out.
@Gan Len being the worst writer, making storyline that bieste does not deserve
@Gan Len soo you're saying that it's OK to make couch bieste as a joke??
@Gan Len 5 inches away from you're ex
@Gan Len I wasn't being funny I was being the opposite of funny.
@Gan Len are u trying to make me sound like 1
i love sheldon
For the people who are saying this is a stupid storyline becuase the character has always said your still a female even if you don't meet all necessary requirements of feminine, number 1 he could have been lying to himself afraid of what society would think or maybe he didn't fully understand who he was yet, everyone life's and stories are different we shouldn't judge people and should instead embrace them and accept them
Yeah, but the point of coach Beiste's character is that she could be a non feminine woman and still be pretty in her own right. By making the character transition is undoing all the work that has gone into making beiste happy.
W O O O O O O O O O O O
Sue made it so hard not to laugh. I wanted to take this seriously....
Moments like these are why Sue was better than Will. Don't get me wrong, with the amount of people she tripped/pushed down stairs as well as various other things, she deserved to get fired. But so did he. Him getting rewarded in the end was pretty gross.
This is off topic, but Sue looks really pretty here
okay, at fist I didn’t like this storyline but I think I finally get it.. cause you see, at first I hated it cause I thought her character was all about women who feel like women but don’t act like society wants them to.
but now I feel like all of the times he said he actually felt like a lady were lies.. so that’d explain it.
otherwise it’s just the writers trying to fit everything in their last season lol
that she has cancer
You have cancer?
no i dont!
what?
wait so you dont have cancer
i told sue that but it was a lie!
WHAT?
Beiste is awesome
The title said "she" and therefore cisgendered him if he's transgender. It should say "Bistro tells Sue and Sam that he's going to have a sex change"
Being FTM transgender person who is gay is completely valid. Get friends who accept you for who you truly are and don’t let anyone bring you down. ❤️
Haha lol getting top surgery a week after your confirmation letter, I FUCKING WISH DUDE
💖
Wrestled hogs in my free time
Period
makes no sense for the character
Glee may have been the most ridiculous and comedically dumb show I’ve ever watched but boy did they get LGBTQIA+ issues perfectly right and addressed it so well. Santana and britneys relationship? Perfect, blaine and kurt? Great, Santana coming out and dealing with her sexuality? I might as well be looking in the mirror cause me too girl 😭
I read the title and I thought Sam was getting the sex change XD
Why do I remember an episode when Beiste tells Will that she was born a man, but she knew she was a woman? I never completely watched season 6 of Glee & probably never will because it just should’ve ended after 5 instead of giving us a train wreck. I just feel like this storyline about Beiste was forced.
Stop misgendering him.
I hated beistes storyline this season
This scene made him very happy. At the time, he was in the closet. Then he got this script.
Where the hell are you getting this made up story from? I've seen a few comments of it. Dot-Marie Jones isn't trans. I googled it to make sure I wasn't wrong before commenting.
@@NeelTheSphynxthe need to call any androgynous or non conforming person trans doesn't just stop with TV shows I suppose
Just because Beiste is masculine, that doesn't mean she should be a man.
I love this scene but i hate this storyline
I don’t like that they made beiste trans. His storyline of being a masculine woman but still being a woman was really good. We love the trans rep tho 😊
Wasn't she already trans? 😳
Such a dumb storyline
Idk how they made beiste trans and sue accepting of it but not unique
Sooo a lesbian woman Plays a gay man ?
Finally, someone useing his fucking pronouns
I hate this storyline. Beiste’s character always showed that you’re still a girl, even if you don’t meet all the requirements of “feminine”. What this storyline did was contradict that and say “Oh you’re not feminine, obviously you’re a man
Yup, you said it
That’s true. 100% True.
@@user-sf9gs2pg1b you can detransition?
Ky'm Young is Crackhead_ Mentality I’m not trans but I’ve done research on trans issues including detransitioning and yes, people detransition but it’s a difficult process especially if you’re a girl who transitioned to being a guy because of the effects taking testosterone has on your voice, it’s kind of irreversible.
I love sue " I possibly thought of every way for a gay guy to come out " " ok enough on the sausage details " hahaha so fricken funny
Ash Hanson HELLO FELLOW TRANS MALE
Ash Hanson you are 100% correct
I don't think having a trans guy come out as a trans guy is reenforcing any stereotype. If anything this is breaking the stereotype that you have to know you're trans from a young age and actively feel like you were meant to be a man all along.
I wish they just expanded on Unique.
the tea
Didn't like this storyline. Bieste was a wonderful character. This was unnecessary, out of left field, and it reinforced the false idea that if you're not a feminine enough as a woman, you must really be a man.
Yeah I agree with you 100%. They wanted to introduce a transgender storyline to be progressive and instead they were regressive.
FOod LOvER Sources? As far as i know thats not true
I really felt that way too. Actually the actress herself didn’t want this. She was very supportive of transgenders but she didn’t want girls to think that if they’re not feminine they should be men instead.
MellyMaeRose I know and I’m slowly finding a way out the closet but I’ve been told I am too feminine to be trans
The actor is trans That why
They could've just revealed Beiste was assigned male at birth.
Would've tied into Beiste saying "I'm just a girl" in an earlier season.
THIS.
THAT! If dealt rigth could've been HUGE and GREAT.
That would have better
I think this was building up because in the second season she didn’t feel like a girl because she wasn’t pretty enough so I get this story
Am I the only one who thought coach beiste was trans mtf and already transitioned the whole time until that erm episode-..
Not rlly, through out the show he was portrayed his dysmorphia if it was either through men or feeling as if he wasnt in the right body
Just because you don't like the arc you don't need to misgender him
