You can gain a lot of understanding of data and of scientific results with just a few tools (a good understanding of error bars, the normal distribution, Bayes' Theorem, etc.). I'm a physicist trying to figure out how to make the tools that we use in scientific analyses accessible to the general public. It would be good if not just decision-makers had these tools, but the general public did as well.
