I am quite impressed! You did not back up from discussing Peri’s knows notable assets! Some women I’ve known in my life get SOOO embarrassed about that and I can start to feel like saying “so what?!”
It’s a subject I find to not be shy about, but to also approach carefully too. It’s been talked about in interviews and such, plus that bikini shot was a first in Doctor Who for that to happen to a companion (and the only one I know of to this date.)
She had the longest, most exhausting, summer break ever, and by the end she had seen and done so much, she morphed into a woman that looked like a college professor
Wow!! That was a fantastic and informative video about Perpugilliam ‘Peri’ Brown. I absolutely loved how you described Peri as a realistic companion because I 100% agree with you. That is the MAIN reason why I love Peri, when she conveys emotions such as joy, sadness, frustration and anger it comes out as realistic. Great work! 😍👍🏻.
I hate how all the comments on here are about how she looks, I really liked Peri's character. She reminded me of Harley Quinn in how she interacted with the doctor but also I loved her sarcasm, mockery and kind moral personality. Very sad how she died
Another comprehensive and well-made video! I love Peri and consider her to be a quintessential companion. Like Jo Grant, she's a much stronger and more interesting character than people give her credit for. It's just a shame that she was a victim of the poor writing and decision making of Doctor Who in the '80s. Thankfully Big Finish have made up for that (I love Peri and the Piscon Paradox!).
I have yet to listen to that audio, but it’s on my list after this video. ❤️ Yes, from what I’ve seen, most viewers think of her as whiny and bratty, but there was SO MUCH more to Peri and she’s such a well-rounded and real character (despite the writing flaws of the 80s.) But if I’m honest, I think those flaws are why I like her too ❤️
Memories of Nicola are enjoying Peri as a kid then when I was 12, shaking like a leaf as she signed the back of my Doctor Who T-shirt. Would like to see her again to put the ghost to rest now I’m all grown up.thank you for insightful video
She was resilient as a character - especially after the traumatic events on Androzani. I think however, he character was never really written that well, the whole botany side was never really expanded on - and she was a bit too much of a damsel in distress.
Oh well, quite late to the party, but.... YES!! Peri was one of my favorite characters in the whole Dr. Who series for quite a long time... yes, she did bring certain "assets" to the show, but that was really only a small portion of the appeal... My other favorite was Leela the warrior and where Leela brought a certain "skill and independence", Peri brought in a most excellent intelligence, passion, and realism to the show. Those things have always been very appealing to me and I could kind of tell that there was so much more to her character and spirit, despite the less than stellar writing for the sixth Doctor... I think that both of them were cheated in some ways... I used to HATE Colin Baker, until I realized that he was pushed into that role and his (and Peri's) later audio works turned out so much better! Peri Brown very much filled my perceptions of the ultimate "companion" both within the Dr. Who universe as well as the real one for quite a long time. Ace was pretty cool overall, but Perpugilliam Brown remains my absolute favorite Dr. Who companion of all time. Followed closely by Leela, Rose, Romana (more the first one than the second), Zoe, Astrid, Martha Jones, and the indomitable Sarah Jane... there were also several other ones that hold a special place in my heart but they were ALL intelligent and strong characters. I kind of liked Jo Grant, Donna Noble, and River Song as well, but each had some off-putting characteristics that I found a bit jarring... Great video and tribute to Peri! I had the opportunity to meet her a few times and she was as much of a joy in person as she was on screen.
Peri is my favorite companion as well. She adds allot of soul to the drama and there was great chemistry with her and the doctor. She was very level headed while the doctor was erratic and she's like a true companion for that doctor to keep him grounded. I don't see that level of bonding with other companions like that, especially of the innoscent pleutonic variety.
The music to too loud. I think a teleprompter would help 🙂 Very good content. I actually worked on several of the shots you used, only as a VT op though.
I asked Nicola to sign the bikini pic in the Companions book. She respectfully refused, telling me she never approved of that pic's inclusion. I don't blame her one bit.
Shes one of my favorite companions with Donna, Rose, and Jo Grant! She reminds me of Teri Hatcher's Lois Lane in looks and character. Very beautiful, humanly relatable, smart, and fun!
I hate to break it to you but Peri isn't from Pasadena. If so she'd have a Valley Girl. She does not sound like Valley Girl. She is actually from Boston, Massachuettes; which is on the EAST Coast and the Atlantic Ocean. Pasedena is in California on the West Coast near the Pacific Ocean.
Like Deborah Watling before her and Jenna Coleman after, Nicola Bryant's Peri proves good things come in small packages. Yes. she's outright gorgeous, but is also fun to watch parrying with Peter Davison's and Colin Baker's Doctors. She still is lovely today, as evidenced by the recent Season 21 promo.
Great video! I would just like to correct you. Peri is from Baltimore, Maryland. There is a great Big Finish story called The Reaping where she goes back to visit her family in Baltimore. It's one of my favourites!
I think it should have been noted when you gave the number of episodes each serial had with Peri that the episodes were 45 minutes long then, not the 23 minutes they originally were.
I just rewatched her original story, Planet of Fire, and was a little taken aback at how bad her American dialect was in that serial but it improved quickly after that and I think was pretty darn good. Making her from Baltimore made it easier to forgive her real dialect coming thru occasionally...👍😁🙂👌
I recall the show exploding here in the US,in the 80's, Who mdse and conventions were everywhere. Unfortunately i think this is when the rails started to come off the program. Colin abd Nicola did the best they could, but were undone by poor scripts, stories, etc. Nicolas a smart lady, it hadda be frustrating being forced to wear outfits that showed off her more than ample chest n figure.. quite a come down from Liz Shaw n Sarah Jane...not what she signed up for. For Colin as well (his outfit was horrible) but to not even be a part of the regeneration scene to Sylvester, shows how he felt. In time tho, it seems theyve both come out winners, they both seem like really nice people, and enjoy the comraderie with fans, and we wiyh them. Thanks much! :)
She has quite a tragic fate. Especially this whole "Time Lords rewrite her life multiple times"-thing. King Ragnos is the best option it seems. Although he's also meh... but it beats being dead or married to abusive Earth-boyfriend.
sorry NOT one of my favorites, nor Mel..my god! HOWEVER..i do give the creators credit for introducing the American market through Peri's character, and by having or being able to sound American helped this, again they wanted to bridge the gap, and bring in the American market. that i am glad of. with out her we would not be getting Dr Who i guess.
I liked her when I was a teenaged boy - I liked her a lot!! :)
Nicola's still gorgeous today at 63!
Great to see younger people enjoying classic Who 😊
I had such a crush on Nicola Bryant when I was a teenager.
I am quite impressed!

Was going through puberty when she was on!

The glamour stills of Peri under the story covers on rotation was a nice touch. BTW, Peri was my first screen crush as a kid! =o

you worked on the Dr Who series?
My favourite scene was in The Two Doctors when she was captured and carried off by an evil Andragum. A proper heroine 😎
5:35 that might explain why he had Peri, a young american woman from the mid 80's, saying things like "it's a diminutive of my proper name"
I asked Nicola to sign the bikini pic in the Companions book. She respectfully refused, telling me she never approved of that pic's inclusion. I don't blame her one bit.

Great video. Well done. Met Nicola several times. She's lovely.
Peri is another companion that has fared better with better, more fleshed out writing on the Big Finish audios.
I keep subscribing to you then way later realising you posted since. I keep missing you, just barely, and it's super weird.
Never could figure out why Peri was my favorite companion... Or why they are called companions in the first place...
Great job as usual 👏. When you gonna drop your first BF audio breakdown. Hyped 😁
Working on it as we speak. We are planning it out! 😁
@@timeladyjamie can't wait.
Loving your videos
Me: “she looks nice”
*she’s american*
Me: “oh, never mind”
Great video!!!
Can i ask where you got the "out takes" and interviews from ?
Thank you
Colin and Nycola are and always were the amazing duo... even if scripts they had to work with weren't always brilliant... to put it lightly.

I’ve realized this after listening to the audio after I made the video. 😂 Oh well. I’ll probably cover it in the review for the audio.

Aaaaaaaah Peri defo one of my fav companions.....purr purrrr purrrrrrr

Mindwarp... not timewarp

Peri will only be remembered for CLEAVAGE, the end!😮
I like Peri Brown
Peri was the best after Sarah Jane
😂
